is article explores the prospects for internationalizing the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing, a degree that has gained considerable popularity in the United States in the past half century but has yet to gain much of a foothold in other countries. As part of this exploration, we describe the experiences of estab- lishing the first low-residency Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing in Asia at City University of Hong Kong, explaining the justification for setting up such a program with reference to the history of teaching creative writing and the current conditions for literary writing in English in Asia and globally. We also reflect upon the processes of planning, curriculum design, and administrative negotiation and that went into setting up the program and report on feedback from the first cohort of students. e experience of setting up this program is used as the basis for raising a number of more general issues regarding the teaching of creative writing in English in interna- tional contexts.

This artistic-scientific process aims to innovate the concept of Interactive Comics by adding them into the concept of RPG games and Single-Adventures. To make it properly done, there will be some issues about Interactivity, history of the Comic Strip and Mangas, and their techniques of use. Also, there will be other issues involving Electronic Comics and Interactive Comics, in addition to the concept of the RPG games and Single-Adventures, so that the reader of this paper could understand the practical result of every issue combined into one. The identification of these issues is made from a bibliographic and iconographic research, and it will also be displayed throughout the content. Some decisions will be thrown along this paper for the reader to decide and, therefore, understand the Interactivity process in a better way. The combined issues’ result will be presented in my interactive website, http://a3studios.com.br/iss/home (address not final) or http://amstarproductions.net (final address), where the readers will have to experience the “Play&Read” phenomenon. Furthermore, this work is inserted in the line of the research Artistic Processes and Procedures of the Department of Fine Arts from the Art Institute of UNESP, whose methodology used was the Freinet Educational Cybernetics, developed in the research group Media Arts and Videoclip leaded by the leading advisor for this Final Course Work. The result and discussion of artistic and scientific research were reported in monographs such as this that I present, with the following versions: PDF version for dissemination in the virtual repository of the Institute of Arts’ Library; hardcover version for physical collection at the Library of Institute of Arts; The Printed Version for the board of examiners; and an appropriated template version for submission to International Scientific Congress in the area of Arts.

This Final Course Work’s main subject comes from a study made on my previous Final Course Work titled “Artemídia Preferente: Fenômeno ‘Jogar&Ler’ nas Histórias em Quadrinhos Interativas (HQI) com os games do RPG”, and it is fed by the shortage of Electronical Comic publications, classes, courses and activities that could suit for educational purposes and experiences for a capable kind of audience to learn it and do it. Specific issues about Electronic Comic will be presented, based on Célestin Freinet’s Pedagogy, on some books about Methodology and on the Brazilian Curriculum Guidelines required for graduation. After that, a Lesson Plan will be developed for a 14 year-old-or-older kind of audience where they will be capable of making their own Electronic Comic, being it educational-themed or not. This study also cares about the participants’ influences on their lives to be completed. Furthermore, this work is inserted in the line of the research “Artistic Processes and Procedures” of the Department of Fine Arts from the Art Institute of UNESP, whose methodology used was the Freinet Educational Cybernetics, developed in the research group “Media Arts and Videoclip” leaded by the leading advisor for this Final Course Work. The term “independent media art” expresses an artistic-scientific process performed in the Art- Science Communication interface presented as Final Paper in Visual Arts baccalaureate modality. The first part consists in gather, in artisticscientific research, an overview of the production of independent comics, mainly in Brazil, as well as some of the manifestations that were derived from it. The identification is made from bibliographical and iconographical survey, both printed and virtual materials. The second part discusses the production of a comic of my own - Imperfect Lives - published independently. This work is inserted in the line of research “Artistic Processes and Procedures” of the Department of Fine Arts of the Art Institute of UNESP and describes: Creative process, production, dissemination and influences. The third and final section brings together the work done by me during the four-year course, whose theme has some relation with comics. Experiments are in various media, using one or another characteristic intrinsic to them. The monography includes as an appendix a copy of each issue of the fanzine Imperfect Lives. The methodology used was Freinetiana Educational Cybernetics, developed in the research group “Art media and Videoclip”, whose leading advisor is the one from this Final Paper. The result and discussion of the artistic research and scientific monography were reported in the following versions: PDF File repository for dissemination in the virtual library of the Institute of Arts. Hardcover version for physical collection in the Library of the Institute of Arts. Paper version for the committee. The term “writing media art” expresses an artisticscientific process performed in the Art-Science Communication interface presented as Final Paper in Visual Arts baccalaureate modality. The first part gathers, in artistic-scientific research, a historical overview of the relation between image and writing, which its main focus is calligraphy and its different expressions in art and design, including their interrelations. The identification is made from bibliographical and iconographical survey, both printed and virtual materials. This approach involves the selection of authors’ statements and comments in order to offer a deeper historical basis, since it comes to facts and events. The second part relates to the set of works produced during the four-year period of the Visual Arts course, including a reflection about the creation process and all that surrounds it – influences, memories, visions etc. – to finally establish a connection between all these elements in order to make clear this incredible web of creation. This work is inserted in the line of research “Artistic Processes and Procedures” of the Department of Fine Arts of the Art Institute of UNESP and describes: creative process, production and influences. The methodology used was Freinetiana Educational Cybernetics, developed in the research group “Art media and Videoclip”, whose leading advisor is the one from this Final Paper. Baseia-se na minha experiência como aluno, professor e artista na Unicamp e na USP. A defesa foi realizada nos dias 23 e 24 de junho de 2008. El arquitecto Pedro Muguruza (1893-1952) fue protagonista de la cultura arquitectónica española de la primera mitad del siglo XX. El estudio de su obra ha sido una carencia dentro de la historiografía de la materia, por lo que la tesis constituye una primera investigación en conjunto de su trayectoria profesional. Muguruza realizó una obra abundante y diversa, pero además fue catedrático de la Escuela de Arquitectura de Madrid, académico de San Fernando y primer director general de arquitectura; datos que corroboran la necesidad de haber desarrollado una monografía con un enfoque global. La tesis ha ordenado, clasificado y analizado sus trabajos, tanto desde un punto de vista histórico como desde el punto de vista arquitectónico. En la investigación se ha recurrido a fuentes primarias y secundarias; y una de las aportaciones de la tesis es el riguroso soporte documental sobre el que se asienta. El trabajo tiene un desarrollo cronológico, dividido en tres capítulos identificados como las etapas generales de su carrera: 1. Años de formación y trayectorias iniciales (1909- 1923), 2. Desarrollo profesional (1923-1938), 3. Las tareas en la administración estatal y último periodo (1938-1952). Asimismo, se ha llevado a cabo el catálogo de su obra —también ordenado cronológicamente—, herramienta que posibilita recorrer de principio a fin el listado y las referencias de su arquitectura. En este apartado se han reproducido más de 1.200 imágenes de 294 proyectos. La tesis ha revisado y descubierto la obra de un arquitecto de mayor recorrido y versatilidad del conocido hasta ahora; personaje complejo de abordar, asociado al franquismo, —cuando en realidad desarrolló una gran parte de sus proyectos en la década de los años veinte y treinta—, difícil de abarcar en todas sus dimensiones, arquitectónica, artística e institucional. La investigación ha permitido indagar y exponer sus proyectos iniciales hasta los de la etapa de madurez, gracias a lo que se han determinado los géneros y los procesos de su trabajo, las constantes de su trayectoria y las referencias e influencias que recibió, tanto de corrientes nacionales como de extranjeras. También se ha revisado su pensamiento arquitectónico a través de sus escritos. El trabajo ofrece un panorama más completo del que entonces se tenía del polifacético Muguruza; arquitecto que se puede presentar como un prototipo reflejo de nuestro pasado reciente, y que al conocer su obra se conoce una parte significativa y destacada de la historia de la arquitectura española contemporánea. ABSTRACT Architect Pedro Muguruza (1893-1952) was a pivotal figure in the Spanish architectural culture of the first half of the 20th century. However, his work as a whole has been insufficiently approached by architectural historiography. This thesis is indeed the first comprehensive research of his professional career. Muguruza’s work is abundant and diverse. He was also a professor at the School of Architecture in Madrid, a luminary scholar at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando and the first General Director of Architecture in Spain. All these facts compel a profound monographic exploration of his far-reaching working path. Muguruza’s projects have been organized, classified and analyzed in this thesis both from historical and architectural points of view. Primary and secondary sources have been scrutinized throughout this research and one of the assets of this project is the rigorous documentation on which it is firmly grounded. The results of this research have been chronologically organized and structured into three chapters identified with the general stages of his prolific career: 1. Training years and his initial paths (1909-1923). 2. Professional development (1923-1938). 3. His role in the state administration and his last period (1938-1952). A chronological catalogue of all his architectural work has also been carried out as part of this project. This catalogue offers the possibility to track his works and all references to them under a historical perspective. More than 1,200 images of his projects have been included in this catalogue. The thesis has gone through and shown up the work of an architect whose magnitude and versatility is much more than what previously known. Muguruza represents a complicated figure to approach ideologically speaking because of his later relationship to Franco’s regime – when in fact Muguruza developed a big part of his projects in the 20’s and 30’s before the dictatorship –. He is also a difficult figure to research on because of his exhaustive working activity in different dimensions: architectural, artistic and institutional. This research allows any incoming scholars to approach Muguruza’s projects under an accurate perspective. From his initial works to his maturity period, his projects have been analyzed and classified by establishing different stages. Additionally, some constant guidelines within his long career and the influences he received both in Spain and abroad have also been identified and properly considered. His architectural line of thought has been explored through his writings too. This thesis provides a complete overview of a multifaceted Muguruza, an architect who can be introduced as an archetype of our recent cultural heritage. By exploring his work a quintessential part of the Spanish contemporary architecture is definitively revealed and acknowledged.
