Este artículo se consagra a una comparación entre el temprano poema de Shakespeare, The Rape of Lvcrece, y sus dos principales fuentes latinas, Ab Vrbe Condita, de Tito Livio y los Fasti, de Ovidio. Anticipándose a la penetración del dramaturgo en sus personajes trágicos, Shakespeare da una aguda descripción de las psicomaquias de Tarquino y de Lucrecia. En el caso del primero, al revelar la lucha interior a propósito de la ética y las consecuencias de sus acciones. En el caso de la segunda, cuando Lucrecia analiza el horror de su vergüenza y los modos de purificarse. En ambos casos Shakespeare opera dramáticamente con sus fuentes, suprimiendo algunos detalles y enriqueciendo significativamente su narración. Existe una complicación adicional en cuanto precede al poema un Argumento que sigue de cerca la historia de Tito Livio. Sin embargo, paradójicamente, el poema se desvía de su mismo argumento en algunos puntos fundamentales

Distribution patterns, petrography, whole-rock and mineral chemistry, and shape and fabric data are described for the most representative basement lithologies occurring as clasts (granule to bolder grain-size class) from the 625 m deep CRP-2/2A drillcore. A major change in the distribution pattern of the clast types occurs at c. 310 mbsf., with granitoid-dominated clasts above and mainly dolerite clasts below; moreover, compositional and modal data suggest a further division into seven main detrital assemblages or petrofacies. In spite of this variability, most granitoid pebbles consist of either pink or grey biotite±hornblende monzogranites. Other less common and ubiquitous lithologies include biotite syenogranite, biotite-hornblende granodiorite, tonalite, monzogranitic porphyries (very common below 310 mbsf), microgranite, and subordinately, monzogabbro, Ca-silicate rocks, biotite-clinozoisite schist and biotite orthogneiss (restricted to the pre-Pliocene strata). The ubiquitous occurrence of biotite±hornblende monzogranite pebbles in both the Quaternary-Pliocene and Miocene-Oligocene sections, apparently reflects the dominance of these lithologies in the onshore basement, and particularly in the Cambro-Ordovician Granite Harbour Igneous Complex which forms the most extensive outcrop in southern Victoria Land. The petrographical features of the other CRP-2/2A pebble lithologies are consistent with a supply dominantly from areas of the Transantarctic Mountains facing the CRP-2/2A site, and they thus provide further evidence of a local provenance for the supply of basement clasts to the CRP-2/2A sedimentary strata.

A seawall was constructed in 1897 along the steep coast of Streckelsberg, Usedom Island to stop the cliff retreat. It was destroyed several times by storm induced sea floods, reconstructed and gradually extended to a length of 450 m. After the severe storm event of 1/2.3.1949, no more repair work was implemented. The ruins were no longer capable of preventing further erosion of the Streckelsberg cliff. A new protective structure became a necessity against ongoing erosion, and to check the lowering of the abrasion platform. The construction of three breakwaters began in 1995. A severe storm occurred on 3/4.11.1995 before their completion. Coastal bottom sediment mapping using a sidescan-sonar carried out two days later showed that a channel system down to a depth of 1.5 m was cut into the sand layer covering the sea floor on both sides of the Koserow Bank. The bottom of these channels was paved with gravel and boulders. This layer was encountered in the whole surveyed area below a mobile sand layer. Discharged bodies of fine sand half a meter high and erosional cavities several m2 in diameter around boulders led to the conclusion that an intensive sediment movement down to a depth of 11 m had taken place during the storm. A storm related direction of sediment discharge could not be identified. The existing section of the breakwaters withstood the severe storm.
