(WHIASU) A basic guide to conducting a HIA. 1. Health impact assessment is a tool that can help organisations to assess the possible consequences of their decisions on people۪s health and well-being, thereby helping to develop more integrated policies and programmes. 2. This document has been developed as a practical guide to health impact assessment. It is designed to meet the needs of a variety of organisations by explaining the concept, the process and its flexibility, and by providing templates that can be adjusted to suit. 3. The Welsh Assembly Government is committed to developing the use of health impact assessment in Wales as a part of its strategy to improve health and wellbeing and to reduce health inequalities. This practical guide has been prepared by the Welsh Health Impact Assessment Support Unit, which was established by the Welsh Assembly Government to encourage and support organisations and groups in Wales to use the approach. 4. The development and use of health impact assessment will contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of local health, social care and wellbeing strategies, which is a joint statutory responsibility for Local Health Boards and local authorities. It can also contribute to Community Strategies which, given their overarching nature and breadth and depth, can address social, economic and environmental determinants of health, and to the implementation of Communities First, the Welsh Assembly Government۪s crosscutting regeneration programme. 5. The development of Health Challenge Wales as the national focus for improving health in Wales reinforces efforts to prevent ill health. Tools such as health impact assessment can help organisations and groups in all sectors to identify ways in which they can help people to improve their health.

The Gender Equality Unit of the Department of Education and Science (DES) has produced this resource for primary schools entitled Equal Measures, which consists of a manual and a DVD. The manual contains four separate booklets. These booklets have been developed to assist teachers, parents, pupils, the school community and boards of management in formulating a gender equality policy and in promoting gender equality in primary school.

he first ever strategy for the Further Education and Training (FET) sector is being launched by the Minister for Education and Skills, Ruair�_ Quinn T.D., and Minister of State for Training and Skills Ciarn Cannon T.D. The overall aim of the Strategy is to develop a world-class integrated system of further education and training in Ireland, which will promote economic development and meet the needs of all citizens. The new strategy was developed by SOLAS with assistance from the ESRI which was commissioned to carry out evidence based research and assist in the development of the Strategy. Five high level strategic goals have been identified: -Skills for the Economy: to address the current and future needs of learners, jobseekers, employers and employees and to contribute to national economic development -Active Inclusion: to support the active inclusion of people of all abilities in society with special reference to literacy and numeracy -Quality Provision: to provide high quality education and training programmes and to meet the appropriate national and international quality standards -Integrated Planning and Funding: FET provision will be planned and funded on the basis of objective analysis of needs and evidence of social and economic impact -Standing of FET: to ensure a valued learning path leading to agreed employment, career, developmental, personal and social options. The Strategy follows a radical overhaul of the structure of the sector by the Government which includes the streamlining of 33 existing VECs into 16 Education and Training Boards (ETBs), the abolition of F́S and creation of SOLAS, the Further Education and Training Authority. The aim of this contribution is to highlight the long-term evolution of family capitalism in Switzerland during the twentieth century. We focus on 22 large companies of the machine, electrotechnical and metallurgy (MEM) sector whose boards of directors and general managers have been identified in five benchmark years across the twentieth century, which allows us to distinguish between family-owned and family-controlled firms. Our results show that family firms prevailed until the 1980s and thus contradict the dominance of 'managerial capitalism'. Although we observe a decline of family capitalism during the last decade of the century, the significant remaining presence of family firms in 2000 allows us to relativise the advent of investor capitalism.

The draft Commissioning Plan was approved by the boards of the HSCB and PHA on Thursday 30 June 2011 for onward transmission to the DHSSPS for Ministerial consideration.Further refinement of the draft plan will take place in July and early August with a view to bringing a final draft plan to the August board meetings of the HSCB and PHA.

El projecte que es presenta permet analitzar els avantatges i inconvenients d’una programació orientada a hardware i d’una programació orientada a software a partir del desenvolupament de dos dissenys, un cronòmetre i un freqüencímetre en cadascun dels modes de programació. Donat que en les dues aplicacions es requereix alta precisió de temps (μs) i flexibilitat en el control, la solució final que es proposa és un disseny “mixt” amb dos mòduls hardware específics (cronòmetre i freqüencímetre) integrats en un NIOS/CPU sobre una FPGA. Els dos mòduls es controlen per software sobre un sistema Linux empotrat (μCLinux).

Dins el departament d’Electrònica, Informàtica i Automàtica de la Universitat de Girona s’handissenyat i construït dues plataformes bípedes per a l’ús docent. La mésevolucionada d’elles, finalitzada l’any 1999, està composada per dues cames d’alumini ambtres actuadors lineals cada una, simulant la funció del turmell, del genoll i del maluc. Els objectius que es pretenen aconseguir amb aquest projecte són molt concrets i tots ellsestan destinats a millorar el funcionament del robot bípede. Aquests objectius són: (1)dissenyar dos graus de llibertat lineals en forma de pla XY per moure el pes que convinguiper assegurar l’equilibri durant el moviment de la plataforma bípede, (2) dissenyar una placaamb una FPGA que generi senyals PWM pels vuit motors disponibles, que llegeixi els dosencoders dels motors del pla XY i que es comuniqui amb un PC equipat amb una tarjad’adquisició de dades específica, (3) dissenyar una placa de potència adequada pel controldels motors, (4) finalment realitzar un programa per comprovar el correcte funcionament deles plaques, dels actuadors i dels sensors utilitzats en la plataforma bípede

Este proyecto consiste en el estudio de una placa de prototipado mixta analógico-digital formada principalmente por un PSoC, una FPGA y memoria flash para determinar sus capacidades en sistemas de control ESP, ASR y ABS. El estudio se basa en concluir la lógica que se puede añadir al dispositivo para enfocarlo a unas aplicaciones que, a pesar de ser muy comunes en coches, está poco desarrollado en motocicletas y ciclomotores. Es por ello surge el interés de diseñar un sistema del más bajo coste posible para impulsar su desarrollo.

This article discusses the construction of tri-sector partnerships in three projects conducted in Brazil in different fields of intervention of public policy (access to water, basic education and performance of boards of rights of children and adolescents). Collaborative articulations involving the players from three sectors (the State, civil society and the market) are practices that are little studied in the Brazilian and even in the international context, as tri-sector partnerships are rare, despite the proliferation of lines of discourse in support of alliances between governments and civil society or between companies and NGOs in the management of public policy. As a research strategy, this study resorted to cooperative inquiry, a method that involves breaking down the boundaries between the subjects and the objects of the analysis. Besides working toward a better understanding of the challenges of building tri-sector partnerships in the Brazilian context, the article also tries to show the relevance to public policy studies of investigative methods based on the subjects studied, as a means of developing an understanding of the practices, lines of discourse and dilemmas linked to social action in social programs.

This research was based on a study of social enterprises in Brazil, to find out if and how these organizations plan and manage the succession process for their senior positions. The study investigated the subset of the associations dedicated to collectively producing goods and services, because they are formally set up and aimed at speeding up the dynamism of local development. The empirical research consisted of two stages. The first was a survey covering a sample of 378 organizations, to find out which of those had already undergone or were undergoing a succession process. The second interviewed the main manager of 32 organizations, to obtain a description of their succession experience. In this stage, the research aimed to analyze how the Individual, Organization and Environment dimensions interact to configure the succession process, identifying which factors of each of these dimensions can facilitate or limit this process. The following guiding elements were taken as the analytical basis: Individual dimension - leadership roles, skill and styles; Organization dimension - structure, planning, advisory boards, communication (transparency), control and evaluation; and Environment dimension - influence of the stakeholders (community, suppliers, clients, and business partners) on the succession process. The results indicated that succession in the researched associations is in the construction stage: it adapts to the requirements of current circumstances but is evidently in need of improvement in order for more effective planning and shared management of the process to be achieved.

El grupo de robòtica i Visió fabricó la tarjeta gráfica MAGCL para el tratamiento de imágenes en tiempo real, en la que se incluyó un conector IDC20 proveniente de parte del bus de datos, de la FPGA que contiene, destinado a futuras aplicaciones. Con este proyecto se quiere aprovechar este conector para la comunicación de la placa con un PC, y se desarrollarán los puertos de comunicación serie RS232 y USB, Universal Serial Bus.El objetivo de este proyecto es establecer la comunicación de la tarjeta gráfica con un PC a través de estos dos tipos de puerto. Una vez conseguida la comunicación, quedan una serie de librerías hardware que pueden ayudar en la realización de futuros proyectos. La placa posee una FPGA (field programable gate array) destinada al desarrollo, pero programando esas librerías sobre otros componentes, se pueden utilizar estos puertos de forma permanente o exclusiva
