En aquest projecte s’avalua la gestió municipal de les principals fonts naturals del Parc Natural de Collserola. S’estudien 28 fonts analitzant-se l’estat actual de les fonts i la qualitat de l’aigua dels darrers anys. Només dos dels nou ajuntaments realitzen analítiques periòdics analitzant paràmetres microbiològics i fisicoquímics així com analítiques completes cada 5 anys. La qualitat de l’aigua en el 78% de les fonts es considera com a “no apta per al consum humà” segons la normativa (RD 140/2003) i només el 35% de les fonts naturals està en bon estat. Així doncs, s’han proposat diferents propostes per tal de millorar l’estat de les fonts i la qualitat de l’aigua per a que en un futur pròxim tant les fonts naturals com el seu entorn estiguin en un estat de conservació òptim.

Background: Polyphenols may lower the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and other chronic diseases due to their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as their beneficial effects on blood pressure, lipids and insulin resistance. However, no previous epidemiological studies have evaluated the relationship between the intake of total polyphenols intake and polyphenol subclasses with overall mortality. Our aim was to evaluate whether polyphenol intake is associated with all-cause mortality in subjects at high cardiovascular risk. Methods: We used data from the PREDIMED study, a 7,447-participant, parallel-group, randomized, multicenter, controlled five-year feeding trial aimed at assessing the effects of the Mediterranean Diet in primary prevention of cardiovascular disease. Polyphenol intake was calculated by matching food consumption data from repeated food frequency questionnaires (FFQ) with the Phenol-Explorer database on the polyphenol content of each reported food. Hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) between polyphenol intake and mortality were estimated using time-dependent Cox proportional hazard models. Results: Over an average of 4.8 years of follow-up, we observed 327 deaths. After multivariate adjustment, we found a 37% relative reduction in all-cause mortality comparing the highest versus the lowest quintiles of total polyphenol intake (hazard ratio (HR) = 0.63; 95% CI 0.41 to 0.97; P for trend = 0.12). Among the polyphenol subclasses, stilbenes and lignans were significantly associated with reduced all-cause mortality (HR =0.48; 95% CI 0.25 to 0.91; P for trend = 0.04 and HR = 0.60; 95% CI 0.37 to 0.97; P for trend = 0.03, respectively), with no significant associations apparent in the rest (flavonoids or phenolic acids). Conclusions: Among high-risk subjects, those who reported a high polyphenol intake, especially of stilbenes and lignans, showed a reduced risk of overall mortality compared to those with lower intakes. These results may be useful to determine optimal polyphenol intake or specific food sources of polyphenols that may reduce the risk of all-cause mortality.

Abstract. Excessive alcohol consumption is associated with increased morbidity and mortality as well as with labour and traffic accidents. However, current evidence suggests beneficial effects of moderate drinking on cardiovascular events including coronary heart disease, ischaemic stroke, peripheral arterial disease and congestive heart failure. The underlying mechanisms to explain these protective effects against coronary heart disease include an increase in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and an increase in insulin sensitivity, and a decrease in platelet aggregation and circulating concentrations of fibrinogen. However, there are discrepancies regarding the specific effects of different types of beverages on the cardiovascular system, and also whether the possible protective effects of alcoholic beverages are due to their alcohol component (ethanol) or non-alcoholic products containing, mainly polyphenols. Recent randomised clinical trials have shown that wine, a polyphenol-rich alcoholic beverage, provides higher antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects than some spirits such as gin, a polyphenol-free alcoholic beverage. In addition, dealcoholized red wine decreases blood pressure through a nitric oxide mediated mechanism, suggesting a protective effect of polyphenols on vascular function. Other studies performed in women have observed that daily doses of 1520 g of alcohol as red wine are sufficient to elicit protective effects similar to those observed in men who consumed higher doses of wine. In conclusion, moderate consumption of wine exerts a protective effect on biomarkers related to the progression and development of atherosclerosis due to its alcoholic (ethanol) and non-alcoholic (polyphenols) content. Women are more sensitive to the beneficial effects of wine.

En los estudios de las organizaciones domina la investigación relacionada con la gestión. Sin embargo,poco a poco, el análisis de la participación y la implicación activa de los socios en los órganos de gobierno de las organizaciones democráticas va creando su propio espacio de interés. Los directivos empiezan a descubrir que la implicación del socio en la sostenibilidad económica proporciona ventaja competitiva. En el caso del cooperativismo de consumo en España, es este artículo se presentan los resultados de un estudio encargado por Hispacoop al Centro de Investigación de Economía y Sociedad (cies, 2010) de la Universidad de Barcelona, siendo esta una primera aproximación al estudio de la participación del socio en el gobierno de diez cooperativas de consumo que operan en el mercado español. El propósito de este trabajo es optimizar el sistema de gestión de workflows COMPSs caracterizando el comportamiento de diferentes dispositivos de memoria a nivel de consumo energético y tiempo de ejecución. Para llevar a cabo este propósito, se ha implementado un servicio de caché para COMPSs para conseguir que sea consciente de la jerarquía de memoria y se han realizado múltiples experimentos para caracterizar los dispositivos de memoria y las mejoras en el rendimiento.

As wireless communications evolve towards heterogeneousnetworks, mobile terminals have been enabled tohandover seamlessly from one network to another. At the sametime, the continuous increase in the terminal power consumptionhas resulted in an ever-decreasing battery lifetime. To that end,the network selection is expected to play a key role on howto minimize the energy consumption, and thus to extend theterminal lifetime. Hitherto, terminals select the network thatprovides the highest received power. However, it has been provedthat this solution does not provide the highest energy efficiency.Thus, this paper proposes an energy efficient vertical handoveralgorithm that selects the most energy efficient network thatminimizes the uplink power consumption. The performance of theproposed algorithm is evaluated through extensive simulationsand it is shown to achieve high energy efficiency gains comparedto the conventional approach.

Traffic accidents are one of the causes of death for people between 1 and 45 years old. Many studies verify that the road accidents are related with the consumption of alcohol. This problem, is especially important in the young people and it is increased during dawns of the weekends. Some studies underline the lack of information and knowledge of many young people concerning law on alcohol consummation when driving and the effects of this drug on consumers. Another problem is the amount of mistaken beliefs on what to do neutralize the alcohol’s effect before drive. The objective of our study is to evaluate, in university students, the knowledge of the rules of driving behavior included in the circulation code and the personal beliefs about the effects of the alcohol in driving, and to find the frequency and the circumstances in which young people drive after alcohol consummation. The results suggest many actions that may be considered in the design of preventive campaigns that promotes safety road behavior in order to increase their effectivity

The purpose of this descriptive survey was to investigate the risk perceptions of smoking in a sample of 1,510 Spanish adolescents(49.1% males; mean age = 14.03; SD = 1.28). In addition, the present research categorised adolescents into one of the fourstages of smoking acquisition, as described by the Transtheoretical Model of Change (TMC): Precontemplation (notthinking about trying smoking in the next 6 months), Contemplation (thinking about trying smoking in the next 6 months), Preparation (thinking about starting smoking in the next 30 days) and Action (smokers), by gender and age. The results showed that age and risk perceptions are important variables in the progression through the stages of change towards regular tobacco consumption (Action stage). These results clearly demonstrate the importance of starting antismoking campaigns at an early age to prevent smoking acquisition or the thought of starting in the near future. These findings also highlight the need to continuously remind adolescents about the negative consequences of smoking

La popularització de productes naturals i d’hàbits de vida saludables, ha contribuït a estimular la demanda de tota mena de d’articles vinculats a la salut com l’aigua mineral natural, que els últims anys, ha passat de ser una “commodity" a un producte de valor afegit. La conjuntura social i econòmica dels últims anys, també ha condicionat els hàbits de consum de les famílies. En alguns casos, la reducció del poder adquisitiu ha motivat l’estalvi en tota mena de productes i serveis fet que ha beneficiat les marques privades o de distribuïdor, sovint considerades inferiors en qualitat però també en preu, i que d’ara en endavant anomenarem (MDD). Els distribuïdors han recolzat els productes MDD millorant-ne la qualitat, la presentació i han invertit en estratègies de comunicació, fet que, ha suposat un increment de la quota de mercat en totes les categories de bens de consum favorable a les MDD. El present treball, pretén dur a terme un anàlisi comparatiu dels preus de venda al públic de les aigües minerals naturals a la cadena Mercadona, i de les estratègies promocionals seguides per tal d’afavorir la MDD vers les marques de fabricant (MDF).

Aquest estudi analitza quatre zones del municipi català de Badia del Vallès, tres de les quals, d’acord amb les dades, constitueixen punts calents en matèria de delinqüència i incivisme (robatoris amb força en interior de domicili, robatoris en interior de vehicle i queixes veïnals per consum de drogues a la via pública i incivisme) i l’altre té gran importància estratègica, en tractar-se de la principal zona d’activitat comercial del municipi. La informació ha estat obtinguda a partir de quatre fonts: bases de dades policials, revisió de documents d’altres autors i institucions, entrevistes i observació participant. Posteriorment, s’ha comparat i sotmès a triangulació aquesta informació, i s’ha analitzat amb la perspectiva d’un marc teòric, amb l’objectiu d’establir un seguit de propostes d’intervenció urbanística adreçades,d’una banda, a la prevenció i a la disminució de la delinqüència als punts calents analitzats, però també a aconseguir una millor convivència. Entre les propostes d’intervenció hi ha la millora de l’enllumenat, la poda de l’arbrat que permeti el control informal, el manteniment i neteja dels espais i el mobiliari urbà, l’adequació dels espais i introducció d’equipaments,etc. Per últim s’ha definit una breu guia de recomanacions, aplicable a l’hora de dissenyar o recuperar espais públics, en la línea dels objectius esmentats: la prevenció i la reducció de la delinqüència i el foment de la convivència i el benestar de la població.

Recommender systems attempt to predict items in which a user might be interested, given some information about the user's and items' profiles. Most existing recommender systems use content-based or collaborative filtering methods or hybrid methods that combine both techniques (see the sidebar for more details). We created Informed Recommender to address the problem of using consumer opinion about products, expressed online in free-form text, to generate product recommendations. Informed recommender uses prioritized consumer product reviews to make recommendations. Using text-mining techniques, it maps each piece of each review comment automatically into an ontology

The cost of reusing water in micro-irrigation at the field level has not been studied in depth although the use of effluents in agriculture is a viable alternative in areas where water is scarce or there is intense competition for its use. The aim of the present study is to analyse the private costs of water reuse in micro-irrigation in an experimental plot. This analysis is intended to provide information about the decision a farmer would make when the choice to use conventional or reclaimed water is guided by cost criteria. The components of the total costs of different combinations of four types of filters and five emitters that can be installed in micro-irrigation systems using reclaimed water have been studied with the data obtained from an experimental plot in conditions similar to those of fruit orchards. Different scenarios that compared the costs of using conventional or reclaimed water in terms of water price and nutrient content were also studied. The results show that a proper combination of filters and emitters can save up to 33% in irrigation costs. Capital costs and maintenance costs were the most variable among the different combinations. Scenario analysis showed that the greater price of reclaimed water could be compensated by high nutrient contents, which would reduce fertilizer costs

En este artículo se analizará la forma de los contratos de crédito al consumo, con especial atención a la manera en que debe exteriorizarse la declaración de voluntad (por escrito, en otro soporte duradero) y al contenido del contrato (menciones que forman parte de la información contractual). Lo primero es la forma "externa" y lo segundo es la forma "interna" del contrato. La diferenciación entre forma interna y forma externa también sirve para analizar el deber de información precontractual. Los efectos civiles previstos en la ley para el caso de contravención debe tener en cuenta esa distinción. El análisis se centra en la ley española de crédito al consumo, pero otros ordenamientos jurídicos se tomarán igualmente en consideración.

Tot i que el cacau i la xocolata són una gran font de polifenols, aquests aliments no es troben entre les fonts alimentàries de polifenols més consumides. Algunes dades suggereixen un aport inferior al 10% de polifenols a través d’aquests. Aquest fet podria ser causa de les diferents metodologies i l'enfocament dels qüestionaris de freqüència de consum d'aliments (FFQ) utilitzats en aquests estudis. La majoria de FFQ validats utilitzen una extensa llista d'aliments per a les fruites i verdures, però no distingeixen adequadament les diverses fonts de xocolata i cacau. Aquests fets recolzen la necessitat d'una avaluació del consum de productes de cacau per tal de poder conèixer la ingesta real de cacau, especialment en la població jove, on la xocolata és un aliment consumit freqüentment.

The paper examines the international distribution of energy intensities as a conventional proxy indicator of energy efficiency and sustainability in the consumption of resources, by employing some descriptive tools from the analysis of inequality and polarization. The analysis specifically focuses on the following points: firstly, inequalities are evaluated synthetically based on diverse summary measures and Lorenz curves; secondly, different factorial decompositions are undertaken that assist in investigating some explanatory factors (weighting factors, multiplicative factors and decomposition by groups); and thirdly, an analysis is made of the polarization of intensities when groups of countries are defined endogenously and exogenously. The results obtained have significant implications from both academic and political perspectives.
