Dust flux records from the Subarctic North Pacific

We present a new record of eolian dust flux to the western Subarctic North Pacific (SNP) covering the past 27000 years based on a core from the Detroit Seamount. Comparing the SNP dust record to the NGRIP ice core record shows significant differences in the amplitude of dust changes to the two regions during the last deglaciation, while the timing of abrupt changes is synchronous. If dust deposition in the SNP faithfully records its mobilization in East Asian source regions, then the difference in the relative amplitude must reflect climate-related changes in atmospheric dust transport to Greenland. Based on the synchronicity in the timing of dust changes in the SNP and Greenland, we tie abrupt deglacial transitions in the 230Th-normalized 4He flux record to corresponding transitions in the well-dated NGRIP dust flux record to provide a new chronostratigraphic technique for marine sediments from the SNP. Results from this technique are complemented by radiocarbon dating, which allows us to independently constrain radiocarbon paleoreservoir ages. We find paleoreservoir ages of 745 ± 140 yr at 11653 yr BP, 680 ± 228 yr at 14630 yr BP and 790 ± 498 yr at 23290 yr BP. Our reconstructed paleoreservoir ages are consistent with modern surface water reservoir ages in the western SNP. Good temporal synchronicity between eolian dust records from the Subantarctic Atlantic and equatorial Pacific and the ice core record from Antarctica supports the reliability of the proposed dust tuning method to be used more widely in other global ocean regions.

Costumbrismo ético- social en tiempos de guerra civil: la poesía moralizante en El Constitucional de San Juan

La utilización de la poesía costumbrista de contenido ético-social-poesía moralizante- durante el período de guerra civil entre unitarios y federales, tuvo en la región de Cuyo un representante en el periódico federal sanjuanino El Constitucional (1835). El otro tipo de poesía a la que apelaron los periódicos en aquellos años, fue la de carácter satírico-político. A partir de la minuciosa lectura y confrontación de fuentes periodísticas inéditas y del análisis bibliográfico necesario para la elaboración del marco teórico, se demuestra la intención de escribir literatura útil a la realidad político-social y de contribuir al desarrollo integral del hombre. Las composiciones literarias analizadas corresponden estrictamente al costumbrismo de contenido ético-social, motivada por la preocupación social y moral, la lucha contra los vicios, corrupciones y falacias del ser humano.

Neogene Radiolarians from the Kerguelen Plateau

Abundant, generally well-preserved radiolarians from Sites 737, 744, 745, 746, 747, 748, and 751 were used in stratigraphic analysis of Neogene, and particularly middle Miocene to Holocene, Kerguelen Plateau sediments. The composite Kerguelen section is more complete than the Weddell Sea sections recovered by Leg 113, and the radiolarians are better preserved. Leg 113 radiolarian zonations of Weddell Sea sites were applicable with only slight modification, and three new zones - Siphonosphaera vesuvius, Acrosphaeral labrata, and Amphymenium challengerae - are proposed for the latest Miocene. Geologic age estimates are given for all radiolarian zones used. Major hiatuses affecting most sites were seen within the middle Miocene, in the latest Miocene, and latest Pliocene. Five new species are described: Acrosphaera? labrata, Acrosphaera? mercurius, Siphonosphaera vesuvius, Actinomma? magnifenestra, and Helotholus? haysi.

Aplicación de la causal violación a los casos de violencia intrafamiliar, Argentina

Este informe presenta las actividades realizadas en el marco del proyecto “Aplicación de la causal violación en los casos de violencia intrafamiliar”, que ha llevado adelante la organización ELA – Equipo Latinoamericano de Justicia y Género en el marco de la Convocatoria de CLACAI para el desarrollo e implementación local de acciones para incrementar el acceso al aborto seguro a través de las causales de aborto legal. El objetivo general de la investigación fue mejorar el conocimiento de las situaciones de violencia sexual en el marco de la violencia en las relaciones intrafamiliares, en particular de parejas y exparejas, promoviendo la articulación de los servicios de salud que trabajan la problemática de violencia de género con los otros servicios que podrán brindar servicios de aborto legal
