O Estágio Pedagógico (EP) surge no âmbito do Mestrado em Ensino de Educação Física nos Ensinos Básico e Secundário e é o culminar de um longo percurso académico, que visa a obtenção de habilitação profissional para a docência. Este Relatório de Estágio teve por objetivos reportar e refletir sobre o conjunto de atividades desenvolvidas no EP: 1) Prática Letiva (PL); 2) Atividade de Intervenção na Comunidade Escolar (AICE), 3) Atividades de Integração no Meio (AIM); e 4) Atividades de Natureza Científico-Pedagógica (ANCP). Este EP foi realizado na Escola Básica e Secundária Gonçalves Zarco (EBSGZ), no ano letivo 2012/2013. A PL permitiu a implementação prática de muitas das competências didáticometodológicas apreendidas durante o percurso académico. As assistências às aulas permitiram observar a intervenção pedagógica dos professores, dando-lhes informações vitais sobre a sua prestação. A AIME foi composta por duas subatividades (“Futzarco 2013” e “GZ Workout Session”) e visou a prática generalizada da atividade física, bem como o convívio entre todos os membros da comunidade escolar. As AIM possibilitaram a aquisição de um maior conhecimento dos alunos e de toda a sua envolvência escolar e familiar, através da realização da Caracterização da Turma. Esta caracterização permitiu identificar uma aluna que apresentava fracos índices de aptidão física, sendo posteriormente convidada para participar no Estudo de Caso. A Atividade de Extensão Curricular, denominada “Zarco Sem Fronteiras” visou a envolvência de todos os elementos do processo educativo da turma. As ANCP centraram-se, nomeadamente, nos Sistemas Competitivos e na Avaliação dos Jogos Desportivos Coletivos e visaram sobretudo a partilha de conhecimentos entre os professores de Educação Física das várias escolas da Região Autónoma da Madeira. O EP foi deveras enriquecedor ao nível da evolução das práticas pedagógicas e permitiu a aquisição de competências que serão muito úteis num futuro profissional.

A pulse of intense carbonate dissolution occurred during the early late Paleocene at 58.4 Ma. A prominent 5 to 25 cm-thick dark brown clay-rich calcareous nannofossil ooze was found on Shatsky Rise at Sites 1209, 1210, 1211, and 1212 during Ocean Drilling Program Leg 198. The layer corresponds to the lower part of planktonic foraminiferal Zone P4 and coincides with the evolutionary first occurrence of the nannolith Heliolithus kleinpellii, an important component of late Paleocene assemblages and a marker for the base of Zone CP5. The clay-rich layer contains common crystals of phillipsite, fish teeth, and phosphatic micronodules and corresponds to a prominent peak in magnetic susceptibility that probably reflects these high amounts of detrital and authigenic materials. Detailed quantitative analysis of planktonic foraminiferal assemblages across the clay-rich nannofossil ooze layer shows that fundamental changes in faunal composition occurred before, during, and after deposition of the clay-rich ooze. Planktonic foraminifers in the clay-rich layer are characterized by a low-diversity, largely dissolved assemblage dominated by representatives of the genus Igorina (mainly Igorina tadjikistanensis and Igorina pusilla). Conversely, Igorina albeari, morozovellids, acarininids, globanomalinids, subbotinids, and chiloguembelinids are common below the clay-rich layer, almost disappear within it, and reappear in low abundances above the clay-rich layer. These changes in faunal compositions are likely a response to a change in carbonate saturation that caused increased dissolution on the seafloor owing to the shoaling of the lysocline and the carbonate compensation depth.

The Paleocene/Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM) was a transient interval of global warming ~55 m.y. ago associated with transformation of ecosystems and changes in carbon cycling. The event was caused by the input of massive amounts of CO2 or CH4 to the ocean-atmosphere system. Rapid shoaling of the lysocline and calcite compensation depth (CCD) is a predicted response of CO2 or CH4 input; however, the extent of this shoaling is poorly constrained. Investigation of Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) Sites 1209-1212 at Shatsky Rise, which lies along a depth transect, suggests a minimum lysocline shoaling of ~500 m in the tropical Pacific Ocean during the PETM. The sites also show evidence of CaCO3 dissolution within the sediment column, carbonate "burn-down" below the level of the carbon isotope excursion, and a predicted response to a rapid change in deepwater carbonate saturation. Close examination of several foraminiferal preservation proxies (i.e., fragmentation, benthic/planktonic foraminiferal ratios, coarse fraction, and CaCO3 content) and observations of foraminifers reveal that increased fragmentation levels most reliably predict intervals with visually impoverished foraminiferal preservation as a result of dissolution. Low CaCO3 content and high benthic/planktonic ratios also mirror intervals of poorest preservation.

OBJECTIVE This study is a prospective, controlled clinical and electrophysiologic trial examining the chronic course of posttraumatic sleep-wake disturbances (SWD). METHODS We screened 140 patients with acute, first-ever traumatic brain injury of any severity and included 60 patients for prospective follow-up examinations. Patients with prior brain trauma, other neurologic or systemic disease, drug abuse, or psychiatric comorbidities were excluded. Eighteen months after trauma, we performed detailed sleep assessment in 31 participants. As a control group, we enrolled healthy individuals without prior brain trauma matched for age, sex, and sleep satiation. RESULTS In the chronic state after traumatic brain injury, sleep need per 24 hours was persistently increased in trauma patients (8.1 ± 0.5 hours) as compared to healthy controls (7.1 ± 0.7 hours). The prevalence of chronic objective excessive daytime sleepiness was 67% in patients with brain trauma compared to 19% in controls. Patients significantly underestimated excessive daytime sleepiness and sleep need, emphasizing the unreliability of self-assessments on SWD in trauma patients. CONCLUSIONS This study provides prospective, controlled, and objective evidence for chronic persistence of posttraumatic SWD, which remain underestimated by patients. These results have clinical and medicolegal implications given that SWD can exacerbate other outcomes of traumatic brain injury, impair quality of life, and are associated with public safety hazards.

The syndrome known as nocturnal frontal lobe epilepsy is recognized worldwide and has been studied in a wide range of clinical and scientific settings (epilepsy, sleep medicine, neurosurgery, pediatric neurology, epidemiology, genetics). Though uncommon, it is of considerable interest to practicing neurologists because of complexity in differential diagnosis from more common, benign sleep disorders such as parasomnias, or other disorders like psychogenic nonepileptic seizures. Moreover, misdiagnosis can have substantial adverse consequences on patients' lives. At present, there is no consensus definition of this disorder and disagreement persists about its core electroclinical features and the spectrum of etiologies involved. To improve the definition of the disorder and establish diagnostic criteria with levels of certainty, a consensus conference using formal recommended methodology was held in Bologna in September 2014. It was recommended that the name be changed to sleep-related hypermotor epilepsy (SHE), reflecting evidence that the attacks are associated with sleep rather than time of day, the seizures may arise from extrafrontal sites, and the motor aspects of the seizures are characteristic. The etiology may be genetic or due to structural pathology, but in most cases remains unknown. Diagnostic criteria were developed with 3 levels of certainty: witnessed (possible) SHE, video-documented (clinical) SHE, and video-EEG-documented (confirmed) SHE. The main research gaps involve epidemiology, pathophysiology, treatment, and prognosis.
