Incremental parsing has long been recognized as a technique of great utility in the construction of language-based editors, and correspondingly, the area currently enjoys a mature theory. Unfortunately, many practical considerations have been largely overlooked in previously published algorithms. Many user requirements for an editing system necessarily impact on the design of its incremental parser, but most approaches focus only on one: response time. This paper details an incremental parser based on LR parsing techniques and designed for use in a modeless syntax recognition editor. The nature of this editor places significant demands on the structure and quality of the document representation it uses, and hence, on the parser. The strategy presented here is novel in that both the parser and the representation it constructs are tolerant of the inevitable and frequent syntax errors that arise during editing. This is achieved by a method that differs from conventional error repair techniques, and that is more appropriate for use in an interactive context. Furthermore, the parser aims to minimize disturbance to this representation, not only to ensure other system components can operate incrementally, but also to avoid unfortunate consequences for certain user-oriented services. The algorithm is augmented with a limited form of predictive tree-building, and a technique is presented for the determination of valid symbols for menu-based insertion. A multivariate model using hierarchical clustering and discriminant analysis is used to identify clusters of community opportunity and community vulnerability across Australia's mega metropolitan regions, Variables used in the model measure aspects of structural economic change, occupational change, human capital, income, unemployment, family/household disadvantage, and housing stress. A nine-cluster solution is used to categorise communities across metropolitan space. Significant between-city variations in the incidence of these clusters of opportunity and vulnerability are apparent, suggesting the emergence of marked differentiation between Australia's mega metropolitan regions in their adjustments to changing economic and social conditions. Like many states and territories, South Australia has a legacy of marine reserves considered to be inadequate to meet current conservation objectives. In this paper we configured exploratory marine reserve systems, using the software MARXAN, to examine how efficiently South Australia's existing marine reserves contribute to quantitative biodiversity conservation targets. Our aim was to compare marine reserve systems that retain South Australia's existing marine reserves with reserve systems that are free to either ignore or incorporate them. We devised a new interpretation of irreplaceability to identify planning units selected more than could be expected from chance alone. This is measured by comparing the observed selection frequency for an individual planning unit with a predicted selection frequency distribution. Knowing which sites make a valuable contribution to efficient marine reserve system design allows us to determine how well South Australia's existing reserves contribute to reservation goals when representation targets are set at 5, 10, 15, 20, 30 and 50% of conservation features. Existing marine reserves that tail to contribute to efficient marine reserve systems constitute 'opportunity costs'. We found that despite spanning less than 4% of South Australian state waters, locking in the existing ad hoc marine reserves presented considerable opportunity costs. Even with representation targets set at 50%, more than halt of South Australia's existing marine reserves were selected randomly or less in efficient marine reserve systems. Hence, ad hoc marine reserve systems are likely to be inefficient and may compromise effective conservation of marine biodiversity.

A Política Nacional de Atenção Integral à Saúde do Homem propõe formas diferenciadas de atuação da equipe de saúde no atendimento da população masculina, uma vez que este público demanda estratégias diferenciadas de serviço. Ao se deparar com a realidade vivenciada pelos homens, surgem várias questões acerca do estereótipo social construído acerca das características masculinas e suas vivências. O objetivo da pesquisa foi compreender alguns aspectos relevantes para as práticas de saúde de homens usuários de Unidade de Saúde da Família, como qualidade de vida, consumo de álcool, representações sociais da bebida alcoólica e características de masculinidade. Foi utilizada uma amostra de 300 homens, frequentadores de Unidade de Saúde da Família, e aplicado um questionário contendo os dados sociodemográficos, o World Health Organization Quality of Life (Whoqol-bref), o Bem Sex-Role Inventory (BSRI), um exercício de evocação sobre bebida alcoólica, o Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (Audit) e um bloco para verificar os problemas ocasionados pelo consumo de álcool e a procura por tratamento. Os dados dos instrumentos quantitativos foram analisados com testes estatísticos de comparação de médias e de correlação. Os dados das evocações foram analisados com o software EVOC (Ensemble de Programmes Permettant l’Analyse des Évocations). Na primeira análise, constatou-se adesão mais alta a características femininas, alta percepção de qualidade de vida e padrões de consumo de álcool semelhantes às médias nacionais. Homens que declararam praticar sua religião apresentaram média significativamente menor de consumo de álcool. Apresentaram correlação inversamente proporcional ao consumo de álcool as características femininas de gênero, os domínios físico, social, psicológico e percepção global de qualidade de vida. Na análise das evocações, constatou-se que os elementos com tendência à centralidade são, em sua maioria, de cunho negativo. Os dados da população geral apresentaram o termo gosto como um aspecto positivo e central da bebida alcoólica. O grupo de abstinentes não apresentou avaliação positiva do termo e o grupo de bebedores apresentou o termo diversão na primeira periferia, referindo-se aos aspectos positivos e de socialização da bebida alcoólica. Os resultados indicaram uma qualidade de vida satisfatória, a religião e as características femininas destacaram-se como um fator de proteção ao uso de bebida alcoólica. Apresentaram, ainda, percepção dos problemas associados ao próprio consumo. Apesar de a maioria dos termos relacionados à bebida alcoólica ser negativo, este consumo ainda se dá em um nível considerável. Por isso, se faz necessária a construção de vínculo entre o profissional e o usuário do serviço de saúde a fim de dar oportunidade para que as reais práticas sobre a bebida alcoólica sejam evidenciadas. Esses dados podem ajudar profissionais de Saúde da Família a refletirem sobre as representações sociais que constroem acerca dos homens de classe popular usuários do serviço

Image segmentation is an ubiquitous task in medical image analysis, which is required to estimate morphological or functional properties of given anatomical targets. While automatic processing is highly desirable, image segmentation remains to date a supervised process in daily clinical practice. Indeed, challenging data often requires user interaction to capture the required level of anatomical detail. To optimize the analysis of 3D images, the user should be able to efficiently interact with the result of any segmentation algorithm to correct any possible disagreement. Building on a previously developed real-time 3D segmentation algorithm, we propose in the present work an extension towards an interactive application where user information can be used online to steer the segmentation result. This enables a synergistic collaboration between the operator and the underlying segmentation algorithm, thus contributing to higher segmentation accuracy, while keeping total analysis time competitive. To this end, we formalize the user interaction paradigm using a geometrical approach, where the user input is mapped to a non-cartesian space while this information is used to drive the boundary towards the position provided by the user. Additionally, we propose a shape regularization term which improves the interaction with the segmented surface, thereby making the interactive segmentation process less cumbersome. The resulting algorithm offers competitive performance both in terms of segmentation accuracy, as well as in terms of total analysis time. This contributes to a more efficient use of the existing segmentation tools in daily clinical practice. Furthermore, it compares favorably to state-of-the-art interactive segmentation software based on a 3D livewire-based algorithm.

In the context of an e ort to develop methodologies to support the evaluation of interactive system, this paper investigates an approach to detect graphical user interface bad smells. Our approach consists in detecting user interface bad smells through model-based reverse engineering from source code. Models are used to de ne which widgets are present in the interface, when can particular graphical user interface (GUI) events occur, under which conditions, which system actions are executed, and which GUI state is generated next.

In this text, we intend to explore the possibilities of sound manipulation in a context of augmented reality (AR) through the use of robots. We use the random behaviour of robots in a limited space for the real-time modulation of two sound characteristics: amplitude and frequency. We add the possibility of interaction with these robots, providing the user the opportunity to manipulate the physical interface by placing markers in the action space, which alter the behaviour of the robots and, consequently, the audible result produced. We intend to demonstrate through the agents, programming of random processes and direct manipulation of this application, that it is possible to generate empathy in interaction and obtain specific audible results, which would be difficult to otherwise reproduce due to the infinite loops that the interaction promotes.
