A bot spooler architecture to integrate virtual worlds with e-learning management systems for corporate training

Joining efforts of academic and corporate teams, we developed an integration architecture - MULTIS - that enables corporate e-learning managers to use a Learning Management System (LMS) for management of educational activities in virtual worlds. This architecture was then implemented for the Formare LMS. In this paper we present this architecture and concretizations of its implementation for the Second Life Grid/OpenSimulator virtual world platforms. Current systems are focused on activities managed by individual trainers, rather than groups of trainers and large numbers of trainees: they focus on providing the LMS with information about educational activities taking place in a virtual world and/or being able to access within the virtual world some of the information stored in the LMS, and disregard the streamlining of activity setup and data collection in multi-trainer contexts, among other administrative issues. This architecture aims to overcome the limitations of existing systems for organizational management of corporate e-learning activities.

Avaliação do Desempenho dos Participantes no Programa Nacional de Avaliação Externa da Qualidade em Morfologia Parasitária: 20 anos de experiência

O Programa Nacional de Avaliação Externa da Qualidade (PNAEQ), inserido no Departamento de Epidemiologia do Instituto Nacional de Saúde Doutor Ricardo Jorge, em Lisboa, tem implementado entre outros, o programa de Morfologia parasitária desde 1995. Neste programa são enviadas amostras de sangue e de fezes para identificação de parasitas e conta com o apoio de um grupo de trabalho cuja principal atividade é a seleção de amostras, a análise de resultados e elaboração de relatórios técnico-científicos promovendo a formação bem como a melhoria contínua do desempenho dos participantes. Neste estudo retrospetivo pretendemos avaliar, o desempenho dos participantes no período de 1995 a 2015, relativamente à deteção e identificação de parasitas, em amostras de fezes e sangue.

New insights into functional regulation in MS-based drug profiling

We present a novel data analysis strategy which combined with subcellular fractionation and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) based proteomics provides a simple and effective workflow for global drug profiling. Five subcellular fractions were obtained by differential centrifugation followed by high resolution LC-MS and complete functional regulation analysis. The methodology combines functional regulation and enrichment analysis into a single visual summary. The workflow enables improved insight into perturbations caused by drugs. We provide a statistical argument to demonstrate that even crude subcellular fractions leads to improved functional characterization. We demonstrate this data analysis strategy on data obtained in a MS-based global drug profiling study. However, this strategy can also be performed on other types of large scale biological data.
