In this article on quasidifferential equation with non-fixed time of impulses we consider the continuous dependence of the solutions on the initial conditions as well as the mappings defined by these equations. We prove general theorems for quasidifferential equations from which follows corresponding results for differential equations, differential inclusion and equations with Hukuhara derivative.

This report mainly deals with the interactive effect of different in-stock probabilities used by every individual in a supply chain. Based on a simulation for 10,000 weeks, the effects of varying in-stock probabilities are observed. Based on these observations, an individual in a supply chain can take counter measures in order to avoid stock out chances hence maintaining profits.

Compared to Bos taurus breeds, Bos indices breeds of cattle present several differences in reproductive physiology. Follicular diameter at deviation and at the time of ovulatory capability are smaller in B. indicus breeds. Furthermore, B. indicus breeds have a greater sensitivity to gonadotropins, a shorter duration of estrus, and more often express estrus during the night. These differences must be considered when setting up embryo transfer programs for B. indicus cattle. In recent studies, we evaluated follicular dynamics and superovulatory responses in B. indicus donors with the objective of implementing fixed-time AI protocols in superstimulated donors. Protocols using estradiol and progesterone/progestrogen releasing devices to control follicular wave emergence were as efficacious as in B. taurus cattle, allowing the initiation of superstimulatory treatments (with lower dosages of FSH than in B. taurus donors) at a self-appointed time. Furthermore, results presented herein indicate that delaying the removal of progesterone/progestogen-releasing devices, combined with the administration of GnRH or pLH 12 h after the last FSH injection, results in synchronous ovulations, permitting the application of fixed-time AI of donors without the necessity of estrus detection and without compromising the results. Multiple ovulation (superovulation) and embryo transfer has been used extensively in cattle. In the past decade, superstimulatory treatment protocols that synchronise follicle growth and ovulation, allowing for improved donor management and fixed-time AI (FTAI), have been developed for zebu (Bos indicus) and European (Bos taurus) breeds of cattle. There is evidence that additional stimulus with LH (through the administration of exogenous LH or equine chorionic gonadotrophin (eCG)) on the last day of the superstimulatory treatment protocol, called the 'P-36 protocol' for FTAI, can increase embryo yield compared with conventional protocols that are based on the detection of oestrus. However, inconsistent results with the use of hormones that stimulate LH receptors (LHR) have prompted further studies on the roles of LH and its receptors in ovulatory capacity (acquisition of LHR in granulosa cells), oocyte competence and embryo quality in superstimulated cattle. Recent experiments have shown that superstimulation with FSH increases mRNA expression of LHR and angiotensin AT(2) receptors in granulosa cells of follicles >8 mm in diameter. In addition, FSH decreases mRNA expression of growth differentiation factor 9 (GDF9) and bone morphogenetic protein 15 (BMP15) in oocytes, but increases the expression of both in cumulus cells, without diminishing the capacity of cumulus-oocyte complexes to generate blastocysts. Although these results indicate that superstimulation with FSH is not detrimental to oocyte competence, supplementary studies are warranted to investigate the effects of superstimulation on embryo quality and viability. In addition, experiments comparing the cellular and/or molecular effects of adding eCG to the P-36 treatment protocol are being conducted to elucidate the effects of superstimulatory protocols on the yield of viable embryos.

This work aimed to evaluate the influence of postpartum period (precocious - of 28 to 44 days and late - of 45 to 90 days) on the bovine pregnancy rate using fixed-time AI. For that, 678 cows were divided in two groups: precocious group (G-P, n=151) and late group (G-T, n=527). The animals received CIDR® + 2 mL of estradiol benzoate (BE) in the day zero (D0). After eight days (D8) the dispositive was removed and both groups received 2.5mL PGF2α, concurrent with PGF2α injection, they received either 1.5mL of eCG or temporary calf removal (RTB). In the next day (D9), the cows received 1 mL de BE and 24 hours later, the fixed-time AI was performed with Nelore bovine semen. The calves were returned to their mothers. The pregnancy rate was not different between the groups (p>0.05), G-P=40% and G-T=48%. The results indicate that females with less than 45 days of postpartum are able to hormone protocol of fixed-time IA.

Two synchronization protocols in lactating dairy and beef cows and in dairy heifers were tested for efficacy of breeding by artificial insemination (AI) with or without estrus detection. Controls received three prostaglandin F2a (PGF2a) injections 14 days apart before AI at observed estrus. Pregnancy rates were compared with animals on the Ovsynch protocol that combined gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) and PGF2a treatments with a timed AI 16 to 20 hours after the second GnRH injection. The pregnancy rates were similar at synchronized ovulation to fixed-time AI in lactating cows, but not effective in heifers because of the lack of synchronization.
The sequential analysis of repeated binary responses: a score test for the case of three time points

In this paper a robust method is developed for the analysis of data consisting of repeated binary observations taken at up to three fixed time points on each subject. The primary objective is to compare outcomes at the last time point, using earlier observations to predict this for subjects with incomplete records. A score test is derived. The method is developed for application to sequential clinical trials, as at interim analyses there will be many incomplete records occurring in non-informative patterns. Motivation for the methodology comes from experience with clinical trials in stroke and head injury, and data from one such trial is used to illustrate the approach. Extensions to more than three time points and to allow for stratification are discussed. Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Heat stress has negative effects on pregnancy rates of lactating dairy cattle. There are genetic differences in tolerance to heat stress; Bos taurus indicus (B. t. indicus) cattle and embryos are more thermotolerant than Bos taurus taurus (B. t. taurus). In the present study, the effects of sire and sire breed on conception and embryonic/fetal loss rates of lactating Holstein cows during the Brazilian summer were determined. In Experiment 1, cows (n = 302) were AI after estrus detection or at a fixed-time with semen from one Gyr (B. t. indicus) or one Holstein sire (B. t. taurus). Pregnancy was diagnosed 80 days after AI. In Experiment 2, cows (n = 811) were AI with semen from three Gyr and two Holstein sires. Pregnancy was diagnosed at 30-40 and at 60-80 days after AI. Cows diagnosed pregnant at the first examination but non-pregnant at the second were considered as having lost their embryo or fetus. Data were analyzed by logistic regression. The model considered the effect of sire within breed, sire breed, days postpartum, period of lactation, and AI type (AI after estrus versus fixed-time). There was no effect of the AI type, days postpartum or milk production on conception or embryonic loss rates. The use of Gyr bulls increased pregnancy rate when compared to Holstein bulls [9.1% (60/657) versus 5.0% (23/456), respectively, P = 0.008; data from Experiments 1 and 2 combined]. Additionally, in Experiment 2, cows inseminated using semen from sire #4 (Gyr) had lower embryonic loss (10%) when compared with other B. t. indicus (35.3% and 40%) or B. t. taurus sires (18.2% and 38.5%, P = 0.03). In conclusion, the use of B. t. indicus sires may result in higher conception rates in lactating Holstein cows during summer heat stress. Moreover, sire can affect embryonic loss and selection of bulls according to this criterion may result in higher parturition rates in lactating Holstein cows. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. Avaliaram-se os efeitos da remoção temporária de bezerros (RTB) ou da aplicação de gonadotrofina coriônica eqüina (eCG) na taxa de prenhez (TP) de vacas Nelore lactantes tratadas com um dispositivo intravaginal liberador de progesterona (DILP). No experimento 1, 83 vacas Nelore e 102 mestiças (Nelore × Red Angus) foram distribuídas em três grupos. em dia aleatório do ciclo estral (D0), os animais do grupo 1 foram tratados com benzoato de estradiol (BE; 2,5 mg, IM, Estrogin®) e um DILP (1 g de progesterona, DIB®), removido no D9, quando também se administrou d-cloprostenol (150 µg, IM, Prolise®) e aproximadamente 12 horas após identificação do estro realizou-se a inseminação artificial. No grupo 2 (IATF), o tratamento foi semelhante ao aplicado no grupo 1, porém, administrou-se uma segunda dose de benzoato de estradiol (1 mg) no D10 e 30-36 horas mais tarde realizou-se a inseminação artificial em tempo fixo (IATF). No grupo 3 (IATF/RTB), os bezerros foram removidos a partir do D9 até a inseminação artificial com tempo fixo (IATF). As taxas de prenhez para as vacas Nelore e mestiças foram, respectivamente, de 7,69 e 41% (Controle); 23,52 e 59,57% (IATF); 69,44 e 55,81% (IATF/RTB). No experimento 2, 255 vacas Nelore lactantes foram distribuídas em três grupos. Os animais do grupo 4 (IATF) foram tratados com benzoato de estradiol (2 mg) e um DILP (1,9 g de progesterona, CIDR-B®) no D0 e no D8 sofreram remoção do DILP no D8 e administração de 25 mg de dinoprost (IM, Lutalyse®). No D9, foi aplicado benzoato de estradiol (1 mg) realizando-se a IATF 30-36 horas mais tarde. No grupo 5 (IATF/RTB), os bezerros foram removidos no D9 até a IATF. O grupo 6 (eCG) foi semelhante ao IATF, exceto pela aplicação de eCG no D9 (400 UI, IM, Novormon®). As taxas de prenhez foram de 50,57 (IATF), 53,57 (IATF/RTB) e 54,76% (eCG). A associação de RTB ao tratamento hormonal com DILP aumenta as taxas de prenhez, enquanto a adição de eCG ao tratamento não melhora as taxa de prenhez de vacas Nelore lactantes ciclando e em boa condição corporal.

A standard (X) over bar chart for controlling the process mean takes samples of size no at specified, equally-spaced, fixed-time points. This article proposes a modification of the standard (X) over bar chart that allows one to take additional samples, bigger than no, between these fixed times. The additional samples are taken from the process when there is evidence that the process mean moved from target. Following the notation proposed by Reynolds (1996a) and Costs (1997) we shortly call the proposed (X) over bar chart as VSSIFT (X) over bar chart: where VSSIFT means variable sample size and sampling intervals with fixed times. The (X) over bar chart with the VSSIFT feature is easier to be administered than a standard VSSI (X) over bar chart that is not constrained to sample at the specified fixed times. The performances of the charts in detecting process mean shifts are comparable.

The objectives of the present study were to evaluate factors associated with estrous synchronization responses and pregnancy per insemination (P/AI) in Bos indicus beef cows submitted to progesterone-based fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI) protocols. A total of 2388 cows (1869 Nellore and 519 crossbred Nellore x Angus) from 10 commercial farms were evaluated to determine the relationships among breed, body condition score (BCS) on the first day of the FTAI protocol, the occurrence of estrus between progesterone device removal and FTAI and diameter of largest ovarian follicle (LF) at FTAI on estrous synchronization responses and P/AI. Cows (n=412 primiparous; 1976 multiparous) received an intravaginal device containing progesterone or an ear implant containing norgestomet (a progestin), and an injection of estradiol at the beginning of the estrous synchronization protocol. Body condition was scored using a 1-5 scale on the first day of the FTAI protocol and at 30-60 days postpartum. Females received 300IU of equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG) and PGF(2 alpha) on the day the progesterone device/implant was removed and were inseminated 48-60h later. At insemination, cows (n=2388) were submitted to an ultrasonographic exam to determine the diameter of the LF. Follicles were classified into four categories based on mean and standard deviation (SD) of the LF (LF1 = two SD below the mean; LF2 = mean minus one SD; LF3 = mean plus one SD; LF4 = two SD above the mean). Ovulation rate was determined in a subset of cows (n=813) by three consecutive ultrasonographic exams: (1) at time of progesterone device/implant removal, (2) at time of FTAI and (3) 48 h after FTAI. Ovulation was defined as the disappearance of a large follicle (>= 8.0 mm) that was previously recorded. Estrus was determined in a subset of the cows (n = 445) by the activation of a detection of estrous patch placed on the tail head on the day of progesterone device/implant removal. Pregnancy was diagnosed 30 days after FTAI. Pregnancy was influenced (P = 0.001) by follicle diameter [LF1 = 27.5% (81/295), LF2 = 46.6% (328/705), LF3 = 57.9% (647/1118), LF4 = 63.3% (171/270)] and the occurrence of estrus [estrus = 67.7% (174/257) and no estrus = 36.2% (68/188)]. Follicle diameter at FTAI influenced ovulation rate [LF1 = 42.5% (34/80), LF2 = 73.9% (161/218), LF3 = 95.8% (407/425), LF4 = 97.8% (88/90)], the occurrence of estrus [LF1 = 54.8% (51/93), LF2 = 33.6% (43/128), LF3 = 68.9% (126/183), LF4 = 90.2% (37/41)] and P/AI among cows that had ovulations [LF1 =32.4% (11/34), LF2 = 50.3% (81/161), LF3 = 60.0% (244/407), LF4 = 68.2% (60/88)]. Improving estrous responses between progesterone device withdrawal and FTAI and increasing the diameter of the LF at FTAI may be important aspects to achieve improved estrous synchronization responses and P/AI following progesterone/progestin and estradiol based FTAI protocols in suckled Bos indicus cows.
