Estrutura básica do MicroArray Gene Expression Markup Language - MAGE-ML.

Um dos objetivos da Rede Genômica Animal é a identificação de genes que contribuam para o melhoramento de características de interesse econômico em animais de produção. Uma das ferramentas para prospecção e análise desses genes é o Microarranjo de DNA, uma técnica que permite avaliar a expressão gênica em condições específicas. Apesar de seu uso amplamente difundido na comunidade científica, os procedimentos e as informações de experimentos nem sempre são padronizados, a despeito dos esforços na criação de uma linguagem padrão como o MAGE-ML. Este documento visa apresentar o padrão MAGE-ML para aqueles que ainda não se utilizam desse recurso e gostariam de aprender um pouco a respeito.

Adding Polymorphic Abstraction to ML (Detailed Abstract)

The ML programming language restricts type polymorphism to occur only in the "let-in" construct and requires every occurrence of a formal parameter of a function (a lambda abstraction) to have the same type. Milner in 1978 refers to this restriction (which was adopted to help ML achieve automatic type inference) as a serious limitation. We show that this restriction can be relaxed enough to allow universal polymorphic abstraction without losing automatic type inference. This extension is equivalent to the rank-2 fragment of system F. We precisely characterize the additional program phrases (lambda terms) that can be typed with this extension and we describe typing anomalies both before and after the extension. We discuss how macros may be used to gain some of the power of rank-3 types without losing automatic type inference. We also discuss user-interface problems in how to inform the programmer of the possible types a program phrase may have.

Failure to Achieve PSA Level ≤I ng/ml Following Neo-Adjuvant LHRHa Therapy Predicts for a Lower Biochemical Control Rate and Overall Survival in Localized Prostate Cancer Treated with Radiotherapy

PURPOSE: To investigate whether failure to suppress the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level to /=2 months of neoadjuvant luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone agonist therapy in patients scheduled to undergo external beam radiotherapy for localized prostate carcinoma is associated with reduced biochemical failure-free survival. METHODS AND MATERIALS: A retrospective case note review of consecutive patients with intermediate- or high-risk localized prostate cancer treated between January 2001 and December 2002 with neoadjuvant hormonal deprivation therapy, followed by concurrent hormonal therapy and radiotherapy was performed. Patient data were divided for analysis according to whether the PSA level in Week 1 of radiotherapy was 1 ng/mL in 52. At a median follow-up of 49 months, the 4-year actuarial biochemical failure-free survival rate was 84% vs. 60% (p = 0.0016) in favor of the patients with a PSA level after neoadjuvant hormonal deprivation therapy of 1 ng/mL at the beginning of external beam radiotherapy after >/=2 months of neoadjuvant luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone agonist therapy have a significantly greater rate of biochemical failure and lower survival rate compared with those with a PSA level of

Size, albedo, and taxonomic type of potential spacecraft target Asteroid (10302) 1989 ML

The Amor-type near-Earth Asteroid (10302) 1989 ML has an “Earth-like” orbit (period 1.44 yr, eccentricity 0.14, inclination 4.4°), therefore the energy required to reach it from the Earth is relatively small making it a very attractive target for rendezvous missions. We have observed 1989 ML in the thermal infrared using the Spitzer Space Telescope, and compared these data with optical and near-infrared observations. The Spitzer results imply a diameter of 0.28±0.05 km and a geometric albedo of 0.37±0.15; together with the reflectance spectrum they are consistent with the relatively rare E classification.
