Background Oral lichen planus is a chronic immune-mediated disease with an estimated prevalence of 0.5-2.5% in the general population. Patients with oral lichen planus are often emotionally unstable and anxious and may develop concomitant systemic disorders. The objective of this study was to evaluate emotional characteristics of patients with oral lichen planus.Methods Two groups were studied: the first group consisted of 48 patients with a diagnosis of oral lichen planus, and the second group consisted of controls without the disease matched for age and gender at a proportion of 1 : 1. The emotional state of the patients was evaluated using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, SF-36 generic quality of life questionnaire, and the Self Reporting Questionnaire-20.Results and conclusions The present investigation demonstrated the presence of anxiety and depression in patients with oral lichen planus and a negative impact of the disorder on the patient's quality of life as indicated by impairment of the physical aspect, vitality, mental health, and social aspect domains. This could indicate that associated psychological treatment may be important in the follow-up of these patients.

This paper purpose is to analyze one of the main problems faced by cold rolling industry of the current time, the mechanical vibration. Factors such as strips with high velocity in order to increase the productivity and thickness becoming thinner and thinner cause the vibrations to be present at all times during rolling. These market requirements also drive the industry for technology development and thus bring the challenges that the operation of a new modern equipment and more powerful. The initial purpose is to analyze the forces that cause vibration in a rolling mill type four high with two stands, where is desirable to identify the origins of these vibrational forces to make possible dismiss them or at least control its intensity, in order to prevent damage in the rolling mill and ensure product quality to the customer. For it, will be used instruments to record and store the vibrations that occur during the lamination process. With this data will be able to analyze the characteristics of the vibrations and act at your elimination. At the end of the work is expected to demonstrate how important the critical view of the engineer in the analysis of graphics combined with the calculations of the natural vibration frequency and engagement of key parts of the laminator. With these two tools at hand, will be possible to increase the productivity of the rolling mill and act preventively in maintenance, thereby reducing your downtime and increasing its performance and efficiency

[ES]El objetivo de este Trabajo es el de actualizar un entorno de gestión de bases de datos existente a la versión 11.2 del software de bases de datos Oracle y a una plataforma hardware de última generación. Se migran con tiempo de parada cero varias bases de datos dispersas en distintos servidores a un entorno consolidado de dos nodos dispuestos en alta disponibilidad tipo "activo-activo" mediante Oracle RAC y respaldado por un entorno de contingencia totalmente independiente y sincronizado en tiempo real mediante Oracle GoldenGate. Se realiza un estudio del entorno actual y, realizando una estimación de crecimiento, se propone una configuración de hardware y software mínima para implementar con garantías de éxito los requerimientos del entorno de gestión de bases de datos a corto y medio plazo. Una vez adquirido el hardware, se lleva a cabo la instalación, actualización y configuración del Sistema Operativo y el acceso redundado de los servidores a la cabina de almacenamiento. Posteriormente se instala el software de clúster de Oracle, el software de la base de datos y se crea una instancia que albergará los esquemas requeridos de las bases de datos a consolidar. Seguidamente se migran los esquemas al entorno consolidado y se establece la replicación de éstos en tiempo real con la máquina de contingencia usando en ambos casos Oracle GoldenGate. Finalmente se crea y prueba un esquema de copias de seguridad que incluye copias lógicas y físicas de la propia base de datos y de archivos de configuración del clúster a partir de los cuales será posible restaurar el entorno completamente.

L'obiettivo della tesi è la valutazione delle prestazioni delle migrazioni di reti di macchine virtuali. Ci si è concentrati sul trasferimento delle memorie di tali macchine virtuali in quanto è l'azione che maggiormente comporta l'impiego di tempo e risorse. Allo scopo, si è scelto l'approccio pre-copy in quanto utilizzato dagli hypervisor più diffusi. Si è costruito un modello in grado di descrivere il sistema in esame, analizzandolo sia dal punto di vista matematico, che simulativo. Proprio grazie ai simulatori proposti si sono confrontati i valori del tempo di migrazione e del downtime, indici fondamentali per la migrazione in tempo reale, nel caso di trasferimento in serie e in parallelo delle macchine di un insieme. Si sono considerate anche reti di macchine virtuali aventi diversa dimensione delle memorie, analizzando e confrontando, anche questa volta, gli indici di prestazione con quelli degli altri processi. Si è prestata particolare attenzione anche alla caratterizzazione della dirtying-rate, parametro importante dell'approccio pre-copy.

L’approccio performance-based nell’Ingegneria sismica è una metodologia di progetto che tiene esplicitamente in conto la performance dell’edificio tra i criteri progettuali. Nell’ambito dei metodi PBEE (Performance-Based Earthquake Engineering) di seconda generazione, quello proposto dal PEER (Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center) risulta essere il più diffuso. In esso la performance dell’edificio oggetto di studio viene valutata in termini quantitativi secondo le 3D’s (dollars, deaths, downtime – soldi, decessi, inutilizzo), quantità di notevole interesse per l’utente finale. Il metodo si compone di quattro step, indipendenti tra loro fino alla sintesi finale. Essi sono: l’analisi di pericolosità, l’analisi strutturale, l’analisi di danno, l’analisi delle perdite o di loss. Il risultato finale è la curva di loss, che assegna ad ogni possibile perdita economica conseguente all’evento sismico una probabilità di superamento nell’arco temporale di riferimento. Dopo la presentazione del metodo PEER, si è provveduto ad una sua applicazione su di un caso di studio, nella fattispecie un telaio piano di quattro campate, multipiano, in calcestruzzo armato, costruito secondo le norme del ’92. Per l’analisi di pericolosità si è fatto ricorso alle mappe di pericolosità disponibili sul sito INGV, mentre per l’analisi strutturale si è utilizzato il software open-source OpenSees. Le funzioni di fragilità e quelle di loss sono state sviluppate facendo riferimento alla letteratura scientifica, in particolare il bollettino Fib numero 68 “Probabilistic performance-based seismic design”. In questa sede ci si è concentrati unicamente sulla stima delle perdite economiche, tralasciando le altre due variabili decisionali. Al termine del procedimento si è svolta un’analisi di sensitività per indagare quali parametri influenzino maggiormente la curva di loss. Data la curva di pericolosità, il legame EDP(IM) e la deformazione ultima a collasso risultano essere i più rilevanti sul risultato dell’analisi.

Light-frame wood buildings are widely built in the United States (U.S.). Natural hazards cause huge losses to light-frame wood construction. This study proposes methodologies and a framework to evaluate the performance and risk of light-frame wood construction. Performance-based engineering (PBE) aims to ensure that a building achieves the desired performance objectives when subjected to hazard loads. In this study, the collapse risk of a typical one-story light-frame wood building is determined using the Incremental Dynamic Analysis method. The collapse risks of buildings at four sites in the Eastern, Western, and Central regions of U.S. are evaluated. Various sources of uncertainties are considered in the collapse risk assessment so that the influence of uncertainties on the collapse risk of lightframe wood construction is evaluated. The collapse risks of the same building subjected to maximum considered earthquakes at different seismic zones are found to be non-uniform. In certain areas in the U.S., the snow accumulation is significant and causes huge economic losses and threatens life safety. Limited study has been performed to investigate the snow hazard when combined with a seismic hazard. A Filtered Poisson Process (FPP) model is developed in this study, overcoming the shortcomings of the typically used Bernoulli model. The FPP model is validated by comparing the simulation results to weather records obtained from the National Climatic Data Center. The FPP model is applied in the proposed framework to assess the risk of a light-frame wood building subjected to combined snow and earthquake loads. The snow accumulation has a significant influence on the seismic losses of the building. The Bernoulli snow model underestimates the seismic loss of buildings in areas with snow accumulation. An object-oriented framework is proposed in this study to performrisk assessment for lightframe wood construction. For home owners and stake holders, risks in terms of economic losses is much easier to understand than engineering parameters (e.g., inter story drift). The proposed framework is used in two applications. One is to assess the loss of the building subjected to mainshock-aftershock sequences. Aftershock and downtime costs are found to be important factors in the assessment of seismic losses. The framework is also applied to a wood building in the state of Washington to assess the loss of the building subjected to combined earthquake and snow loads. The proposed framework is proven to be an appropriate tool for risk assessment of buildings subjected to multiple hazards. Limitations and future works are also identified.

Highly available software systems occasionally need to be updated while avoiding downtime. Dynamic software updates reduce down-time, but still require the system to reach a quiescent state in which a global update can be performed. This can be difficult for multi-threaded systems. We present a novel approach to dynamic updates using first-class contexts, called Theseus. First-class contexts make global updates unnecessary: existing threads run to termination in an old context, while new threads start in a new, updated context; consistency between contexts is ensured with the help of bidirectional transformations. We show that for multi-threaded systems with coherent memory, first-class contexts offer a practical and flexible approach to dynamic updates, with acceptable overhead.

El desarrollo de actividades de carga y descarga son parte de la esencia de la naturaleza funcional de un puerto, de las cuales derivan en gran medida los ingresos del mismo y la eficiencia de la cadena logística en su conjunto. Las oscilaciones en el interior de una dársena y en un línea de atraque disminuyen la calidad de la estancia de las embarcaciones en puerto, reducen el rendimiento de la estiba de los buques y solicitan y fatigan las estructuras y los cuerpos flotantes amarrados. Si los parámetros que definen la agitación local se aproximan a regiones de fallo 0 parada, el subsistema pierde rendimiento, fiabilidad y finalmente se paralizan las operaciones, produciéndose de este modo tiempos de inactividad. Estas paradas operativas conllevan pérdidas económicas para la terminal y, consecuentemente, para el puerto. Hoy día se dispone vastas redes de monitorización destinadas a la caracterización del medio físico en el entorno de los puertos. Paralelamente, las operaciones de manipulación de cargas en las terminales se están dirigiendo hacia modelos de automatización o semi automatización, que permiten no sólo la sistematización de procesos, sino también un profundo conocimiento del flujo de tareas. En este contexto hay un déficit de información sobre cómo afectan los diferentes forzadores del medio físico al rendimiento, la seguridad funcionalidad del proceso de manipulación de carga y descarga. Esto se debe en gran medida a la falta de registros dilatados en el tiempo que permitan correlacionar todos los aspectos mencionados de un modo particularizado para cada línea de atraque y amarre de un puerto. En esta tesis se desarrolla una metodología de vídeo monitorización no intrusiva y de bajo coste basada en la aplicación de técnicas "pixel tool' y la obtención de los parámetros extrínsecos de una observación monofocal. Con ello pretende poner en valor las infraestructuras de vídeo vigilancia de los puertos y de los laboratorios de experimentación a escala reducida, con el objeto de facilitar el estudio los umbrales operativos de las áreas de atraque y amarre. The development of loading and unloading activities is an essential part of he functional nature of a port, which derive largely from he same income and the efficiency of he supply chain as a whole. The oscillations inside a dock and a mooring line diminish he quality of the stay of vessels in port reducing the performance of the stowage of ship and asking and fatigued structures and moored floating bodies. If the parameters defining the local al agitation regions are close to areas of failure or shutdown, he subsystem looses performance, reliability and eventually paralyzes the operations, thereby producing downtime. These operational stops entail economic 1osses to the terminal and, consequently for the port. Today vast networks of monitoring, aimed at he characterization of the physical environment in the vicinity of he ports, are available. In parallel, the cargo handling operations at terminals are moving towards automation or semi-automation models that allow not only the systematization of processes, but also a deep understanding of he workflow. In this context, there is a lack of information about how the different forcing agents of the physical environment affect the performance and he functional safety of the loading and unloading process. This is due largely to the lack of spread-over-time records which would allow to correlate all aspects mentioned, specifically, for each berthing and mooring of a port. This thesis develops a methodology for non-intrusive and low cost monitoring video based on the application of "pixel tool" techniques and on obtaining the extrinsic parameters of a monofocal observation. It seeks an enhancement of the video monitoring infrastructure at ports and at experimental laboratories of reduced scale, in order to facilitate the study of operational thresholds berthing and mooring areas.
