Many strategic technology management methods and tools have been proposed and deployed by academics and practitioners. Each approach, with its advantages and disadvantages, provides a particular perspective for supporting understanding, analysis, decision and action. Many approaches overlap in function, the interfaces with other methods are not clear, and many variants of tools are often available with little guidance provided for their application. As a step towards the construction of a flexible toolkit for supporting strategic technology management, this paper sets out a workshop-based approach that comprises functional modules that can be combined to address a range of management challenges. Co-CreativePen Toolkit is a pen-based 3D toolkit for children cooperatly designing virtual environment. This toolkit is used to construct different applications involved with distributedpen-based 3D interaction. In this toolkit, sketch method is encapsulated as kinds of interaction techniques. Children can use pen to construct 3D and IBR objects, to navigate in the virtual world, to select and manipulate virtual objects, and to communicate with other children. Children can use pen to select other children in the virtual world, and use pen to write message to children selected The distributed architecture of Co-CreativePen Toolkit is based on the CORBA. A common scene graph is managed in the server with several copies of this graph are managed in every client.Every changes of the scene graph in client will cause the change in the server and other client.

The traditional design of accelerator magnet usually involves many time consuming iterations of the manual analysis process. A software platform to do these iterations automatically is proposed in this paper. In this platform, we use DAKOTA (a open source software developed by Sandia National Laboratories) as the optimizing routine, which provides a variety of optimization methods and algorithms, and OPERA (software from Vector Fields) is selected as the electromagnetic simulating routine. In this paper, two examples of designs of accelerator magnets are used to illustrate how an optimization algorithm is chosen and the platform works.

We describe the key role played by partial evaluation in the Supercomputer Toolkit, a parallel computing system for scientific applications that effectively exploits the vast amount of parallelism exposed by partial evaluation. The Supercomputer Toolkit parallel processor and its associated partial evaluation-based compiler have been used extensively by scientists at M.I.T., and have made possible recent results in astrophysics showing that the motion of the planets in our solar system is chaotically unstable.

Considerable effort is required to implement solar radiation models in software. Many existing implementations have efficiency as their main priority rather than re-usability, and this can adversely affect their further development since the relationships between the software and physical quantities may be obscured. The Solar Toolkit is an attempt to overcome such barriers by exploiting the current abundance of computing resource, and the availability of user-oriented tools such as Microsoft Excel®. The Solar Toolkit takes the form of a set of functions written in Visual Basic for Applications® (VBA) made available under the Academic Free Licence. Transparency is the overriding priority throughout the implementation so that the Toolkit can provide a platform for further modelling initiatives.

This paper briefly describes an interactive parallelisation toolkit that can be used to generate parallel code suitable for either a distributed memory system (using message passing) or a shared memory system (using OpenMP). This study focuses on how the toolkit is used to parallelise a complex heterogeneous ocean modelling code within a few hours for use on a shared memory parallel system. The generated parallel code is essentially the serial code with OpenMP directives added to express the parallelism. The results show that substantial gains in performance can be achieved over the single thread version with very little effort.

The shared-memory programming model can be an effective way to achieve parallelism on shared memory parallel computers. Historically however, the lack of a programming standard using directives and the limited scalability have affected its take-up. Recent advances in hardware and software technologies have resulted in improvements to both the performance of parallel programs with compiler directives and the issue of portability with the introduction of OpenMP. In this study, the Computer Aided Parallelisation Toolkit has been extended to automatically generate OpenMP-based parallel programs with nominal user assistance. We categorize the different loop types and show how efficient directives can be placed using the toolkit's in-depth interprocedural analysis. Examples are taken from the NAS parallel benchmarks and a number of real-world application codes. This demonstrates the great potential of using the toolkit to quickly parallelise serial programs as well as the good performance achievable on up to 300 processors for hybrid message passing-directive parallelisations.

This paper describes an autonomics development tool which serves as both a powerful and flexible policy-expression language and a policy-based framework that supports the integration and dynamic composition of several autonomic computing techniques including signal processing, automated trend analysis and utility functions. Each of these technologies has specific advantages and applicability to different types of dynamic adaptation. The AGILE platform enables seamless interoperability of the different technologies to each perform various aspects of self-management within a single application. Self-management behaviour is specified using the policy language semantics to bind the various technologies together as required. Since the policy semantics support run-time re-configuration, the self-management architecture is dynamically composable. The policy language and implementation library have integrated support for self-stabilising behaviour, enabling oscillation and other forms of instability to be handled at the policy level with very little effort on the part of the application developer. Example applications are presented to illustrate the integration of different autonomics techniques, and the achievement of dynamic composition.
