The purpose of this study was to assess the influence of Er:YAG laser pulse repetition rate on the thermal alterations occurring during laser ablation of sound and demineralized primary dentin. The morphological changes at the lased areas were examined by scanning electronic microscopy (SEM). To this end, 60 fragments of 30 sound primary molars were selected and randomly assigned to two groups (n = 30); namely A sound dentin (control) and B demineralized dentin. Each group was divided into three subgroups (n = 10) according to the employed laser frequencies: I4 Hz; II6 Hz, and III10 Hz. Specimens in group B were submitted to a pH-cycling regimen for 21 consecutive days. The irradiation was performed with a 250 mJ pulse energy in the noncontact and focused mode, in the presence of a fine water mist at 1.5 mL/min, for 15 s. The measured temperature was recorded by type K thermocouples adapted to the dentin wall relative to the pulp chamber. Three samples of each group were analyzed by SEM. The data were submitted to the nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis test and to qualitative SEM analysis. The results revealed that the temperature increase did not promote any damage to the dental structure. Data analysis demonstrated that in group A, there was a statistically significant difference among all the subgroups and the temperature rise was directly proportional to the increase in frequency. In group B, there was no difference between subgroup I and II in terms of temperature. The superficial dentin observed by SEM displayed irregularities that augmented with rising frequency, both in sound and demineralized tissues. In conclusion, temperature rise and morphological alterations are directly related to frequency increment in both demineralized and sound dentin. Microsc. Res. Tech., 2011. Recently, ocular vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (oVEMP) have emerged as a tool for assessment of utricular function. They are short-latency myogenic potentials which can be elicited in response to vestibular stimulation, e.g. by air-conducted sound (ACS) or bone-conducted vibration (BCV) (reviewed in (Kantner and Gurkov, 2012)). Otolithic afferent neurons trigger reflexive electromyographic activity of the extraocular muscles which can be recorded beneath the eye contralateral to the stimulated ear by use of surface electrodes.

This layer is a georeferenced raster image of the historic paper map entitled: Seattle Harbor : Puget Sound Washington territory, issued May 1870 C.P. Patterson, superintendant; verification J.E. Hilgard, assistant in charge of the office; triangulation by J. S. Lawson assistant in 1874 based upon the primary triangulation by George Davidson, assistant in 1855-6; topography and hydrography by J.S. Lawson, assistant in 1874 & 5; resurvey of city of Seattle and water front by assist. J.J. Gilbert in 1886; additions by asst. Pratt in 1889; verifications of hydrology by Lieut. Comdr. W. H. Brownson U.S.N. inspector of hydrography. It was published by United States Coast and Geodetic Survey in July 1889. Scale 1:20,000. The image inside the map neatline is georeferenced to the surface of the earth and fit to the Washington State Plane North Coordinate System HARN NAD83 (in Feet) (Fipszone 4601). All map collar and inset information is also available as part of the raster image, including any inset maps, profiles, statistical tables, directories, text, illustrations, index maps, legends, or other information associated with the principal map. This map shows coastal features such as lighthouses, rocks, channels, points, coves, islands, bottom soil types, flats, wharves, and more. Includes also selected land features such as roads, railroads, drainage, land cover, selected buildings, towns, and more. Relief shown by contours and spot heights; depths by soundings. Includes notes, tables, and list of authorities. This layer is part of a selection of digitally scanned and georeferenced historic maps from The Harvard Map Collection as part of the Imaging the Urban Environment project. Maps selected for this project represent major urban areas and cities of the world, at various time periods. These maps typically portray both natural and manmade features at a large scale. The selection represents a range of regions, originators, ground condition dates, scales, and purposes.

The knowledge of thermodynamic high-pressure speed of sound in ionic liquids (ILs) is a crucial way either to study the nature of the molecular interactions, structure and packing effects or to determine other key thermodynamic properties of ILs essential for their applications in any chemical and industrial processes. Herein, we report the speed of sound as a function temperature at pressures up to 101 MPa in four ultrapure ILs: 1-propyl-3-methylimidazolium bis[(trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl]imide, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis[(trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl]imide, 1-pentyl-3-methylimidazolium bis[(trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl]imide, and 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium bis[(trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl]imide, taking into consideration their relaxation behavior. Additionally, to further improve the reliability of the speed of sound results, the density, isentropic compressibility, and isobaric heat capacity as a function of temperature and pressure are calculated using an acoustic method.

This article introduces the genre of a digital audio game and discusses selected play interaction solutions implemented in the Audio Game Hub, a prototype designed and evaluated in the years 2014 and 2015 at the Gamification Lab at Leuphana University Lüneburg.1 The Audio Game Hub constitutes a set of familiar playful activities (aiming at a target, reflex-based reacting to sound signals, labyrinth exploration) and casual games (e.g. Tetris, Memory) adapted to the digital medium and converted into the audio sphere, where the player is guided predominantly or solely by sound. The authors will discuss the design questions raised at early stages of the project, and confront them with the results of user experience testing performed on two groups of sighted and one group of visually impaired gamers.
