This is a narrated slide presentation of a seminar delivered by Dr. Peter Smith, Associate Dean (Education) Faculty of Law, Arts and Social Sciences/Associate Dean Education and Student Experience Faculty of Social and Human Sciences. The recording lasts around 25 minutes. The seminar was delivered on 30 November, 2010 to the University of Southampton Higher Education Research Group. The presentation reflects the position of the University's Curriculum Innovation Programme as of November 2010/January 2011.

Catalysis at the University of Southampton

This is a video resource to support the teaching of catalysis at A-level. It features explanations of the underlying theory, coupled with an outline of cutting research in this area of Chemistry at the University of Southampton, which relates to the A-level topic. The video files are in the .zip folder, and instructions for how to access them can be found in the attached document. You will also find a Word document called 'Skeleton notes', which is designed to be printed out by students and completed as they watch the video. We will be seeking feedback from students who use the resource, to find out their views about its effectiveness in educational terms. University of Southampton thesis template for MS Word 2010/2013 (PC) and 2011 (Mac)

This template is for use with both Word 2010/2013/2016 for PC and Word 2011/2016 for Apple Mac. It provides a structure and format that meets with the University's quality requirements for a thesis such as mirror margins to allow for double-sided printing. It is not compulsory to use the template when writing a thesis, however it's use, in conjunction with the supporting material referenced at the start of the template, will make your thesis well presented and should save you a lot of time and effort. If you have Word 2003 there is a separate template for this version of Word available. Since this is not a University supported version of Office there are no supporting videos.

This template is for use with both Word 2003 (PC) and Word 2004 (Apple Mac). It provides a structure and format that meets with the University's Quality requirements for a thesis. The template has mirror margins set up to allow for double-sided printing. It is not compulsory to use the template when writing a thesis. but it's use will make your thesis well presented and should save you a lot of time and effort. Since Office 2003/2004 are no longer the supported versions of Office used at the University there are no supporting videos.

Using Heading styles in the University of Southampton's thesis template for MS Word 2011 for Apple computers

This will probably be the most useful and time-saving thing you can do when writing a thesis. Using Heading styles in your thesis will not only create a series of sequentially numbered, consistently formatted headings and subheadings, it will also allow you to make a refreshable Table of Contents and make the most out of Word’s Document Map. The University provides a template for the whole of a thesis but if you wish to construct a thesis by using separate files you can use this file as template for those. This template has mirror margins to account for double sided printing and odd and even page headers. Support materials for using the template are referenced near the start of the file. You will weant to use this in conjunction with the Front Matter http://www.edshare.soton.ac.uk/9405/ and End Matter templates http://www.edshare.soton.ac.uk/11998/.
