In the present work, we provide some considerations about the role of scientific communication in Chemistry Education. Such considerations may subsidize the development of communication in scientific language by Chemistry students. These considerations are based on information collected during a participatory research for the production of didactic material about scientific communication. The meetings were audio recorded and the contents of the participants' speeches were divided into categories. The category analysis supported the elaboration of the considerations.

Chemistry teachers increasingly use research articles in their undergraduate courses. This trend arises from current pedagogical emphasis on active learning and scientific process. In this paper, we describe some educational experiences on the use of research articles in chemistry higher education. Additionally, we present our own conclusions on the use of such methodology applied to a scientific communication course offered to undergraduate chemistry students at the University of So Paulo, Brazil.

The importance of teaching scientific communication skills in undergraduate chemistry courses is well recognized. This paper provides an overview of didactic activities in which students engage to improve these skills. The study was based on an extensive literature review performed on the Journal of Chemical Education and on the Journal of College Science Teaching, in the years spanning from 1991 to 2010, and on The Chemical Educator, from 1996 to 2010. The findings from the study provided an opportunity to expand the knowledge on the variety of methods and contents used to teach scientific communication skills in undergraduate chemistry education, as well as to deepen our understanding of the effects of different approaches to teaching on performance in practice.

Blogs and other technology tools are commonly used in our society. Although we are familiar with the use of technology for social interaction, its application in the classroom environment is still not fully appreciated by the teaching community as a useful learning tool. This paper sheds light on this use by presenting the analysis of the comments posted on a blog used by undergraduate chemistry students for a scientific communication undergraduate course. On the course, students used the blog to ask questions and discuss assignments. All the comments were monitored by the professor and her teaching assistant, who also posted their comments. We analyzed the content of these comments using the model proposed by Henri and adapted by McKenzie and Murphy. The results show a predominance of administrative comments, followed by course content comments. The findings also indicated that this tool complements classroom discussions, supports the participation of students who would otherwise not take part, and allows a continuous learning process for all the students. We concluded that the use of blogs improved the classroom experience and supported the instructional classroom activities.

The electrical properties of polymers make up an inherently interdisciplinary topic, being closely associated, on the one hand, with the mechanical properties of polymers polarization and relaxation) and, on the other hand, with the semi conductive properties (conduction and break down). In addition, unlike conventional technologies, which use these properties in its various applications like antistatic coatings, rechargeable batteries, sensors, electrochromic devices, electrochemical devices etc, microwave technology extract the microwave absorbing ability of electrically conducting polymers. The conducting polymers are widely used in its potential applications like electro magnetic interference shielding, satellite communication links, beam steering radars, frequency selective surfaces etc. Considering the relevance of microwave applications of conducting polymers, the study of microwave properties of conducting polymers stands poised to become a compelling choice for synthetic chemists and condensed - matter physicists, physical chemists and material scientists, electrochemists and polymer scientists. The main aim of the present work is to study the microwave and low frequency properties of various conducting polymers, conducting semi-interpenetrating networks, conducting copolymers and to characterise it. Also this thesis collated the microwave properties of these conducting systems and exposes the various technologically important applications in the industrial, scientific, communication and defence applications.

A criao e popularizao da Internet tm provocado srias mudanas no campo da comunicao. Especificamente na comunicao cientfica, o uso do meio eletrnico permite agilizar as etapas do processo editorial, bem como facilitar a criao, disseminao, pesquisa e uso de informao cientfica. Entretanto, a incorporao de tecnologias tambm desafiadora, pois exige diversas mudanas no modelo de gesto de peridicos cientficos. Esse composto basicamente por aspectos cientficos (certificao de contedo visando a seleo e divulgao de conhecimento de qualidade), administrativos (produo editorial e grfica, gesto administrativa e financeira, comunicao e marketing) e financeiros (modelo de rendimentos) que precisam estar alinhados para que o peridico possa cumprir seu objetivo. A presente pesquisa teve como principal objetivo analisar a gesto editorial de peridicos cientficos da rea de Administrao no contexto brasileiro e propor uma tipologia de seus modelos de gesto. Adotou-se de uma abordagem qualitativa e foram utilizados mtodos de pesquisa documental, entrevista e anlise bibliomtrica para, respectivamente, identificao do contexto, descrio dos modelos de gesto editorial e clculo do impacto dos peridicos selecionados para o estudo (Revista de Administrao de Empresas, Revista de Administrao Contempornea, Revista de Administrao da USP, Organizaes & Sociedade e Brazilian Administration Review). Identificou-se que os peridicos selecionados apresentam impacto (medido por meio de citaes) relativamente alto quando comparados aos peridicos estrangeiros avaliados pelo Qualis da rea de Administrao, Contabilidade e Turismo. Percebe-se que o modelo de gesto dos peridicos est fortemente vinculado ao tipo de Instituio Mantenedora desse (Associao Cientfica, Instituio de Ensino Superior (IES) Pblica, IES Privada), a qual influencia nas questes financeiras, administrativas e cientficas das revistas. Espera-se que os resultados da pesquisa possam contribuir no s para os editores de revistas cientficas, mas tambm para os responsveis por decises que se referem s polticas de avaliao e fomento de peridicos cientficos no Brasil.

A disseminao da prtica de coautoria no Brasil e na comunidade internacional tem sido acompanhada pelo aumento no registro de fraudes, manipulaes e outros desvios ao definir a responsabilidade por um trabalho cientfico. Este artigo discorre sobre os critrios utilizados para atribuio da autoria, as razes para o crescimento dos ndices de coautoria e os desafios para estabelecer a autoria em peridicos eletrnicos. Por meio de reviso bibliogrfica e estudo de caso (a partir de levantamento de base de dados), aponta caminhos para evitar que desvios de comportamento quanto atribuio de autoria abalem a credibilidade da cincia.

This study aims to identify, through the application of webometric indicators, which Post-Graduate Courses in Engineering recommended by the Coordination of Improvement of Higher Personnel Education (CAPES) in Brazil stand out in the web space, in relation to the communication process and dissemination of scientific information in the academic environment. For this, we analyzed the structures content of the sites, the use, through the conduct of investigations and searches, the quality of information available, as well as the structure of existent hypertexts in the sites of this universe of search. The tools and methodologies adopted for this study are: search engines (Google, Yahoo), Mapper software (Xenu Link Sleuth) and analysis software and visualization of networks (and Ucinet6 NetDraw). Webometric indicators are also used, such as size of the web sites, visibility, web impact factor, brightness and density of the network. These instruments provide a brief analysis and evaluation for this webometric study. Therefore, from the incursion of the literature used, it appears that there are many advantages of using this type of metric study in the so called Information Society. The obtained results could identify which postgraduate courses in engineering has a better availability of their information on the Web, as well to define which of these courses stands out in relation to the use of their information, which has been outstanding in respect to its impact factor and which offers a greater number of links that serve as a source of information for its users, contributing, in its turn, with the navigability of the same network. In summary, it is asserted that the webometric study presents promising results, which are able to achieve the proposed objectives, as well as identify the factors that contribute significantly to the good visualization of these sites in the network, thus helping the spread of information and scientific communication through the use of the Web.
