Reflexões acerca das relções entre representação temática e descritiva

It presents the importance of integrating the thematic representation into the descriptive one, revealing the theoretical and practical aspects of these disciplines and tracing relationships between them. The goal of this work is to discuss the conceptual models Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR), Functional Requirements for Subject Authority Data (FRAD) and Functional Requirements for Subject Authority Data (FRSAD), illustrating them with the work of information search done by the user on a system. It emphasizes the importance of specific knowledge, without losing the viewpoint of both areas as complementary ones. The theoretical and methodological approach is based on the theoretical and conceptual research on the discussed thematics so as to analyze the facts available in the literature as well as to consider their practical applicability. We conclude that there is a happy and necessary integration between the thematic and descriptive representations that optimizes the informational access, though the second discipline is still regarded by many as pure physical description in manual catalogs.

Pescadores artesanais, surfistas e a natureza: reflexões a partir de um olhar da Educação Física

The purpose of this paper is to present results of research conducted with artisan fishermen and surfers in order to analyze the meaning of interactions between each one of these groups with Nature. Academic and field researches (direct observation and free interviews) were used to investigate nine fishermen (eight male, one female; 28-71 years; 10 years practice minimum) and six surfers (male; 23-41 years age, 1-29 years practice) in Sao Paulo's North Coast. The body and the way as it interacts with Nature, in the daily life of these groups, points out to subjects with little exposure in the Physical Education field.

O Intuitivo e o Lógico no Conhecimento Matemático: análise de uma proposta pedagógica em relação a abordagens filosóficas atuais e ao contexto educacional da matemática

In this paper, we consider Meneghetti & Bicudo's proposal (2003) regarding the constitution of mathematical knowledge and analyze it with respect to the following two focuses: in relation to conceptions of mathematical knowledge following the fundamentalist crisis in mathematics; and in the educational context of mathematics. The investigation of the first focus is done analyzing new claims in mathematical philosophy. The investigation of the second focus is done firstly via a theoretical reflection followed by an examination of the implementation of the proposal in the process of development of didactic materials for teaching and learning Mathematics. Finally, we present the main results of the application of one of those materials.

High frequency tendon reflexes in the human soleus muscle

Tendon reflexes have been often used in studies of the human nervous system in health and disease. They have been investigated either in response to single tendon taps or to long duration vibrations. Tendon reflexes are described here in response to a high frequency vibration burst (3 cycles of a 100 Hz sine wave) applied to the Achilles tendon of standing subjects, either in quiet stance or during a forward leaning posture. The electromyogram from the soleus muscle usually showed three components separated by 10 ms which were interpreted as being three reflexes, each reflex induced by each of the three cycles in a burst. This result indicates that soleus tendon reflexes can respond in fast succession in a phasic manner when a brief high frequency vibration is applied to the Achilles tendon. This occurs in spite of possible depression of the la to motoneuron synapses and the long after hyperpolarization of the motoneurons. An interpretation of the results is that motoneurons from different subsets of the motoneuron pool respond to different cycles of the sinusoidal vibratory burst. (c) 2008 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. Selective Vagal Denervation of the Sinus and Atrioventricular Nodes, Guided by Vagal Reflexes Induced by High Frequency Stimulation, to Treat Refractory Neurally Mediated Syncope

Vagal Denervation and Neurally Mediated Syncope. A 15-year-old female patient presented with frequent episodes of vasovagal syncope refractory to non-pharmacological and pharmacological measures. Two tilt-table tests performed before and after conventional therapy were positive and reproduced the patient`s clinical symptoms. Selective vagal denervation, guided by HFS, was performed. Six radiofrequency pulses were applied on the left and right sides of the interatrial septum, abolishing vagal responses at these locations. Basal sinus node and Wenckebach cycle lengths changed significantly following ablation. A tilt test performed after denervation was negative and revealed autonomic tone modification. The patient reported significant improvement in quality of life and remained asymptomatic for 9 months after denervation. After this period, three episodes of NMS occurred during a 4-month interval and a tilt test performed 11 months after the procedure demonstrated vagal activity recovery. Irreversibilidade, incerteza e teoria econômica reflexões a respeito do indeterminismo metodológico e de suas aplicações na ciência econômica

Este trabalho consiste em aplicar o princípio do indeterminismo metodológico na Ciência Econômica. Isto implica definir dois tipos de universo econômico: um que se caracteriza pela ergodicidade e pela reversibilidade do tempo e dos processos econômicos, e o outro pelas características contrárias. Uma primeira parte tratará da construção do objeto de estudo e da natureza da análise relativa a cada um desses universos. Em razão desta dicotomia, uma segunda parte estudará suas implicações no que diz respeito à natureza das probabilidades e dos processos que guiam as decisões dos agentes.

Neural reflex regulation of arterial pressure in pathophysiological conditions : interplay among the baroreflex, the cardiopulmonary reflexes and the chemoreflex

The maintenance of arterial pressure at levels adequate to perfuse the tissues is a basic requirement for the constancy of the internal environment and survival. The objective of the present review was to provide information about the basic reflex mechanisms that are responsible for the moment-to-moment regulation of the cardiovascular system. We demonstrate that this control is largely provided by the action of arterial and non-arterial reflexes that detect and correct changes in arterial pressure (baroreflex), blood volume or chemical composition (mechano- and chemosensitive cardiopulmonary reflexes), and changes in blood-gas composition (chemoreceptor reflex). The importance of the integration of these cardiovascular reflexes is well understood and it is clear that processing mainly occurs in the nucleus tractus solitarii, although the mechanism is poorly understood. There are several indications that the interactions of baroreflex, chemoreflex and Bezold-Jarisch reflex inputs, and the central nervous system control the activity of autonomic preganglionic neurons through parallel afferent and efferent pathways to achieve cardiovascular homeostasis. It is surprising that so little appears in the literature about the integration of these neural reflexes in cardiovascular function. Thus, our purpose was to review the interplay between peripheral neural reflex mechanisms of arterial blood pressure and blood volume regulation in physiological and pathophysiological states. Special emphasis is placed on the experimental model of arterial hypertension induced by N-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) in which the interplay of these three reflexes is demonstrable.

Configurações territoriais múltiplas: reflexões a partir de O Anti-édipo : capitalismo e esquizofrenia de Gilles Deleuze e Félix Guattari

Este texto lança algumas reflexões sobre os axiomas do capitalismo que permitem descodificar todas as convenções das sociedades chamadas “selvagens”, e realizar as promessas de poder das sociedades déspotas, “bárbaras”. Simultaneamente, o capitalismo, provoca uma multiplicação das fraturas territoriais e de globalizações de toda ordem. Nessa descodificação de todos os valores, os fluxos (sociais, econômicos, políticos) liberados pelo capitalismo hesitam entre, de um lado, uma descodificação que levaria a uma desterritorialização radical dos processos e, de outro lado, um reaparecimento e re-atualização conservadora desses fluxos liberados pelo próprio processo de “criação destrutiva”.

Uma nova política exterior depois do apartheid? Reflexões sobre as relações regionais da África do Sul, 1974 - 1998

O artigo demonstra que as relações regionais na África Austral sofreram uma mudança dramática que transformou esta região de conflito, a partir de 1989, em uma zona de relativa paz e segurança entre os Estados. O abandono da política sul-africana de desestabilização foi instrumental neste processo. Dentro do novo clima de paz e consenso político, surgiram outras fricções, principalmente de carácter econômico, que deixam a região pendular entre um grande compromisso para integração e "guerras comerciais". De novo, a política regional da África do Sul é o fator decisivo para o surgimento desta constelação. Ela oscila entre forte retórica moral e puro racionalismo econômico.

Reflexões sobre a Conferência das Nações Unidas contra o Racismo, a Intolerância Racial, a Xenofobia e a Intolerância Correlata

Este artigo discute um dos tópicos mais polêmicos da recente Conferência das Nações Unidas contra o Racismo - a questão do pagamento de reparações para as vítimas do tráfico transatlântico de escravos - num contexto histórico amplo e profundo. Argumenta-se que a historiografia da escravidão e do tráfico apresenta um quadro complexo de envolvimento que não permite uma simples projeção de responsabilidade exclusiva nesta tragédia humana. Quando apresentado como mais um projeto de transferência de recursos dos países ocidentais para a África, a reivindicação de pagamentos de reparações está apresentada como problemática e pouco viável. Quando se trata como um aspecto de políticas publicas de combater a discriminação da população negra em países multietnicos, é considerada mais justificável e promissora.

Reflexões sobre o Brasil e os desafios Pan-Amazônicos

O objetivo deste artigo é o estudo das interações regionais e desafios internacionais sobre a Pan-Amazônia, uma região considerada estratégica para o Brasil. Sua importância se verifica em múltiplos campos, com destaque para o ambiental e para o econômico - aliás, duas perspectivas que, mesmo não sendo excludentes, revelam-se de difícil compatibilização, sobretudo quando o assunto converge para a exploração dos diversos recursos naturais existentes na Pan-Amazônia e para o exercício da soberania nacional sobre os seus territórios. Mas o escopo temático do artigo é ainda mais amplo, haja vista que um dos principais objetivos do estudo é tentar articular as questões ambientais e econômicas conexas à Pan-Amazônia com aspectos políticos relacionados à segurança regional e nacional em torno da hileia, partindo do pressuposto que estamos diante de um quadro complexo apreendido em sua dimensão regional. Por fim, realiza-se um exercício sobre prováveis cenários envolvendo a Pan-Amazônia, tanto na perspectiva regional como na internacional.
