Propagator, tree-level unitarity and effective nonrelativistic potential for three-dimensional higher-derivative gravity augmented by a gravitational Chern-Simons term

An algorithm for computing the propagator for three-dimensional quadratic gravity with a gravitational Chern-Simons term, based on an extension of the three-dimensional Barnes-Rivers operators, is proposed. A systematic study of the tree-level unitarity of this theory is developed and its agreement with Newton's law is investigated by computing the effective nonrelativistic potential. A nonlinear model for the long-term hydro-thermal generation scheduling problem over multiple areas with transmission constraints

This paper presents a nonlinear model with individual representation of plants for the centralized long-term hydrothermal scheduling problem over multiple areas. In addition to common aspects of long-term scheduling, this model takes transmission constraints into account. The ability to optimize hydropower exchange among multiple areas is important because it enables further minimization of complementary thermal generation costs. Also, by considering transmission constraints for long-term scheduling, a more precise coupling with shorter horizon schedules can be expected. This is an important characteristic from both operational and economic viewpoints. The proposed model is solved by a sequential quadratic programming approach in the form of a prototype system for different case studies. An analysis of the benefits provided by the model is also presented. ©2009 IEEE.

Equilibrium existence in the circle model with linear quadratic transport cost

We treat the problem of existence of a location-then-price equilibrium in the circle model with a linear quadratic type of transportation cost function which can be either convex or concave. We show the existence of a unique perfect equilibrium for the concave case when the linear and quadratic terms are equal and of a unique perfect equilibrium for the convex case when the linear term is equal to zero. Aside from these two cases, there are feasible locations by the firms for which no equilibrium in the price subgame exists. Finally, we provide a full taxonomy of the price equilibrium regions in terms of weights of the linear and quadratic terms in the cost function.
