Province of Upper Canada Land Grant to Ann Cook, 1812

A grant of land to Ann Cook of the Township of Crowland. The land is situated in the township of Wainfleet, in the County of Lincoln, in the district of Niagara. Ann Cook is granted 200 acres in lot no. 32 in the 4th concession in Wainfleet. One of the signatures on the document is illegible but other signatures include: Prideaux Selby, auditor general on April 15, 1812. This is the date that the document was entered into the auditor’s office. Isaac Brock has signed in the upper left hand corner as “Isaac Brock President” which refers to the fact that he was President administering the Government of Upper Canada and Major General commanding the forces within the province. It is also signed on the left hand side by John Macdonell (who is buried at Brock’s Monument). At the time, he was the attorney general.

Can Ontario Be the Next Finland? Assessing Whether the Finnish Model Can Meet the Educational Needs of Ontario, Canada

This study examines the adaptability of the Finland model to meet the educational disparities currently observed in the education system in Ontario, Canada. A literature review and a database highlight key characteristics of the Finland model. From this information, Finland and Ontario’s systems are found to be similar in the areas of systemic structure and educational philosophies, and international testing and performance standards. The systems are found to be different in the areas of geography and demographics, social perceptions and attitudes towards education, school system structure, teaching philosophies, teacher education and professional status, and standardized and high-stakes testing. Discussion regarding use of Finnish philosophies to meet Ontario’s needs in the following areas takes place: social perceptions and attitudes towards education, our teaching philosophies, our teacher education and professional status, and our use of high-stakes and standardized testing. Opportunities for future research are also discussed and the major research paper includes a workshop and survey.

Understanding Network Governance: A Case Study Exploration of Active Canada 20/20

Consistent with the governance shift towards network forms of governance, a number of new social movements have formed in response to the declining levels of physical activity in the Western world. One such movement is Active Canada 20/20: A Physical Activity Strategy and Change Agenda for Canada. Network governance is employed as the theoretical framework for this case study exploration of Active Canada 20/20 and the political landscape surrounding its development and implementation. Semi-structured interviews were conducted in addition to document/policy analysis and direct observations. Analysis of the data resulted in three overarching themes – the defining characteristics of network governance, the political landscape, and intersectoral linkages – that interconnect multifariously based the nature of the Canadian federal government and its relationship with the voluntary sector for physical activity. Despite progress in driving Active Canada 20/20 forward, entrenched dynamics of power need to be navigated within the political landscape surrounding network governance.

The first page of the book is inscribed "Best Wishes to Margaret and Percy from Norris", Oct. 5, 1959.

Province of Upper Canada Grant (vellum) to George Upper of the Township of Niagara. He was formerly a private in the Lincoln Militia. He is granted 100 acres in the east half of lot no.28 in the 2nd Concession in the Township of Nissouri. This was registered Dec. 1827 – Folio no. 242. This document is extremely stained and torn on the lower half. No effect on the text, Nov. 27, 1827.

Province of Upper Canada Grant (vellum) to Isaac Fuller of the Township of Niagara. He was formerly a private in the Militia. He is granted 100 acres in the west half of lot no.29 in the 2nd Concession in the Township of Nissouri – Folio no. 233. This was registered Nov. 1833. The outside of this document is quite discoloured. This does not affect the text, Oct. 13, 1833.

Province of Upper Canada Grant (vellum) to Thompson Thair of the Township of Sidney in the County of Hastings. He is granted 200 acres of lot no.28 in the 1st Concession in the Township of Nottawasaga in the County of Simcoe. This was registered June 1836 – Folio no. 262, Oct. 2, 1834.

Province of Upper Canada Grant to Elizabeth MacKay

Province of Upper Canada Grant (vellum) to Elizabeth MacKay of the Township of Charlottenburgh in the County of Glengarry. She was the daughter of William MacKay, a United Empire Loyalist. She was granted 200 acres in the east halves of lots no. 8 and 10 in the 2nd Concession in the Township of Orillia. This was registered June 4, 1836 – Folio 168, May 27, 1836.

Province of Upper Canada Grant (vellum) to Abraham Cook of Williamsburg in the County of Dundas. He was the son of Michael Cook, a United Empire Loyalist. He is granted 200 acres in the Township of Nottawasaga in the County of Simcoe, lot no. 23 in the 3rd Concession – Folio 547, Sept. 14, 1836.

Province of Upper Canada Grant (vellum) to Philip Chesneau Delatre, late Lieutenant Colonel from the Township of Stamford. He is granted 633 acres in lot no.4 of the 4th Concession; lot no.2 in the 2nd Concession; lot no. 3 in the 3rd Concession and lot no.9 in the 5th Concession in Blandford in the County of Oxford. This was registered Nov. 3, 1836 – Folio no. 67, Oct. 31, 1836.

Province of Upper Canada Grant to Robert Melville

A Province of Upper Canada Grant (vellum) to Robert Melville of Niagara. He was a captain in the 68th Regiment of Foot. He is granted 700 acres in lots 3, 4 and 7 and the west half of lot 8 in the 11th Concession of the Township of Enniskillen – Folio no. 527, June 15, 1837.

Province of Upper Canada Grant (vellum) to Philip Chesneau Delatre, late Lieutenant Colonel, of the Township of Stamford. He is granted 600 acres in the north and south halves of lot no. 2 in the 3rd Concession; south and north halves of lot no. 3 in the 2nd Concession; south and north halves of lot no. 2 in the 3rd Concession and south and north halves of lot no. 8 in the 11th Concession in the Township of Blandford in the County of Oxford. This was registered Nov. 13, 1837 – Folio no. 51, Oct. 25, 1837.

This was registered Nov. 13, 1837 – Folio 50, Oct. 26, 1837.
