La asthéneia en la antropología cristiana primitiva

La Patrística cristiana recibió la noción veterotestamentaria de asthéneia de la versión griega de los LXX. Entendida como “debilidad" y “falta de fuerza", se la asoció con “enfermedad" o “estado general de debilidad", significado que se conservó tanto en los libros históricos como en los poéticos. El término aparece con frecuencia también en los Evangelios y en los escritos de Pablo, posibilitando así una comprensión de la enfermedad en clave filosófico-teológica por parte de los Padres, entre los que se destaca el Patriarca de Constantinopla San Juan Crisóstomo, quien recurriendo a una exégesis literal de la Escritura según los principios de la escuela antioquena, analiza el concepto en sus comentarios a las Epístolas llamadas “Mayores" de San Pablo y, particularmente, a la Segunda Carta a los Corintios. De esta lectura se desprende la necesidad de considerar la asthéneia de manera inseparable de la antropología cristiana. En los orígenes del cristianismo la concepción de hombre resultaba extremadamente compleja, oscilando desde la antropología tripartita de San Pablo (I Tes. 5, 23) a la quíntuple presentada por ciertos textos gnósticos (Carta esotérica de Santiago 11, 36-12, 17; 14, 24-36) y a la década de Clemente de Alejandría (Strómata VI, 16, 135, 1-2). El estudio de la aplicación del concepto de asthéneia a los distintos componentes del hombre en la polifacética literatura cristiana primitiva, permite comprender la importancia asignada a cada uno de ellos según las distintas corrientes interpretativas.

"Our Father Isaac": Reading the Sahidic Testament of Isaac in an Egyptian Monastic Context

This dissertation argues that the textual community of fourth or fifth century monastic Egypt read Testament of Isaac as an ascetical regimen in order to transform themselves into children of Isaac. T. Isaac highlights three particular dimensions of Isaac's character from the remembered tradition of Isaac that would have resonated in the Egyptian monastic context of the textual community - Isaac as priestly authority, Isaac as sacrifice, and Isaac as blind ascetic - to create a model for the new self that the textual community aimed to achieve. Two important ascetic practices in T. Isaac that the textual community was to perform were copying and reading T. Isaac. These two practices functioned as technologies of the self that helped the members of the textual community to transform their present subjectivity into a new self modeled on Isaac in T. Isaac.

Following several years of political turmoil triggered by constitutional reform (a shift from a presidential to a semi-presidential system) and electoral reshuffles (parliamentary elections in 2012; presidential elections in 2013), the political situation in Georgia has stabilised: key posts in the country are now in the hands of democratically elected members of the Geor-gian Dream coalition. Despite its mosaic-like structure and internaltensions, Georgian Dream remains strong and enjoys high levels of public support. This puts it in good stead to play a central role in Georgian politics in the foreseeable future, including securing victory in the local government elections scheduled for June. However, local billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili does not currently hold a political office - despite the fact that he is the founder, sponsor and undisputed leader of the coalition, as well as former prime minister and the most popular public figure in Georgia (besides Patriarch Ilia II). This raises several questions, for example: Who is really at the helm of the Georgian state? What is the lon-g-term vision of the current government? The past achievements of the politically heterogeneo-us Georgian Dream - dominated by Mr Ivanishvili - offer little help in answering these questions. In addition to a series of challenges on the domestic front, the new Georgian leadership is also facing strategic geopolitical challenges, compounded by the current conflict in Ukraine. These include the future of Georgia’s relations with the West (including the process of EU and NATO integration) and with Russia (in response to repeated attempts to re-integrate the post-Soviet republics). The scale and dynamism of the changes in both the geopolitical order in the post-Soviet region and in the relations between Russia and the West are causing further questions to be raised about their impact on the position of the Georgian political elite and about their consequences for the entire country.
