Efeito da prática do futebol no desempenho em agilidade, velocidade e coordenação de meninos na categoria dentinho ou sub 11 (10 e 11 anos de idade)

In Brazil, the practice of Soccer is encouraged very early. It is common remark that parents enroll their sons into soccer schools, promoting the involvement of these children in formal practice. However, there are not many studies that assess the effects of this practice in the physical capacities of children. Thus, the question that guides this study is: children who practice soccer systematically present better development of physical, especially agility, coordination and speed? The objective of this study was to compare the performance in velocity tests, agility and coordination of boys of 10 and 11 years, category dentinho or Sub-11, practitioners of soccer in schools and non practicing. The study included male children, born in 1997 and 1998, formed two groups: group of practitioners of soccer and group of non practicing. To belong to the group of practitioners, the child was regularly engaged for at least 1 year, with 1 hour daily and 2 to 3 times per week. The participants of the group of non practicing were not involved in regular practice of soccer and were paired in weight and stature with participants of the group of practitioners of soccer. Each participant was individually assessed in neutral environment and without foreign interference. For the assessment of the agility, was utilized the (shuttle run) test. The race test 30 meters stopped was employed for the assessment of the speed. The test of fiddling between the cones was employed to measure the coordination. The time spent to perform 1 attempt to each test was used for the comparison between groups. These data were treated, initially, by descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) and, subsequently, were compared by means of Anova, for independent samples. Diferenças no desenvolvimento de meninos e meninas em condição de risco

This study aimed to evaluate the development of infants aged between 30 and 59 days, who presented some kind of risk factor threatening their development. Participated in the project 82 children, being 42 boys and 40 girls, presenting the following risk conditions: low birth weight, preterm birth or children of adolescent mothers. The protocol "Stimulation for kids" from "The Operationalized Portage Inventory" was administered. The girls presented a better performance in all conditions, however, no significant differences between genders were observed among the adolescent mothers' children. These results are consistent with those described in the literature and they indicate that the male population is more vulnerable to developmental damage. Public policies regarding early intervention to minimize the likelihood of future cognitive difficulties and consequently its impact in such population are essential.

"...Depois, querida, ganharemos o mundo": reflexões sobre gênero, sexualidade e políticas públicas para travestis adolescentes, meninos femininos e outras variações

This article originated in a research that was meant to map out and examine the life conditions of “travesti” (transgender) teenagers and youth living in the city of Campinas, state of São Paulo. We contacted our informants outside the environments usually identifi ed as the common spaces where members of this group spend their time and share their experiences, as a strategy that we believed could enable us to better perceive how they construct their subjectivities. As we began our ethnographic endeavors, we were surprised by the multiplicity of ways in which these young people experimented with gender and sexuality, yet which were, at the same time, accompanied by eff orts to fi t these experiments within available identity categories. Feminine boys, cross dressers and drags thus constructed their own ways of living the feminine, and in doing so, stirred our imagination regarding contemporary experiences and political struggles in the realm of sexuality.
