Major and trace-element microanalyses of the main minerals from the 610 Ma Pedra Branca Syenite, southeast Brazil, allow inferences on intensive parameters of magmatic crystallization and on the partition of trace-elements among these minerals, with important implications for the petrogenetic evolution of the pluton. Two main syenite types make up the pluton, a quartz-free syenite with tabular alkali feldspar (laminated silica-saturated syenite, LSS, with Na-rich augite + phlogopite + hematite + magnetite + titanite + apatite) and a quartz-bearing syenite (laminated silica-oversaturated syenite, LSO, with scarce corroded plagioclase plus diopside + biotite +/- hornblende + ilmenite magnetite +/- titanite + apatite). Both types share a remarkable enrichment in incompatible elements as K, Ba, Sr, P and LREE. Apatite saturation temperatures of similar to 1060-1090 degrees C are the best estimates of liquidus, whereas the pressure of emplacement, based on Al-in-hornblende barometry, is estimated as 3.3 to 4.8 khan Although both units crystallized under oxidizing conditions, oxygen fugacity was probably higher in LSS, as shown by higher mg# of the mafic minerals and higher hematite contents in Hem-Ilm(ss). In contrast with the Ca-bearing alkali-feldspar from LSO, which hosts most of the whole-rock Sr and Pb, virtually Ca-free alkali-feldspar from LSS hosts similar to 50% of whole-rock Sr and similar to 80% of Pb, the remainder of these elements being shared by apatite, pyroxene and titanite. This contrast reflects a strong crystal-chemical control, whereby a higher proportion of an element with similar ratio and charge (Ca2+) enhances the residence of Sr and Pb in the M-site of alkali feldspar. The more alkaline character of the LSS magma is inferred to have inhibited zircon saturation; Zr + Hf remained in solution until late in the crystallization, and were mostly accommodated in the structure of Ca-Na pyroxene and titanite, which are one order of magnitude richer in these elements compared to the same minerals in LSO, where most of Zr and Hf are inferred to reside in zircon. The REE, Th and U reside mostly in titanite and apatite; D(REE)Tit/Ap raises steadily from 1 to 6 from La to Tb then remains constant up to Lu in the LSO sample; these values are about half as much in the LSS sample, where lower contents of incompatible elements in titanite are attributed to its greater modal abundance and earlier crystallization. Among the Agrobacterium T-DNA genes, rolB, rolC, orf13, orf8, lso, 6b and several other genes encode weakly homologous proteins with remarkable effects on plant growth. The 6b oncogene induces tumors and enations. In order to study its properties we have used transgenic tobacco plants that carry a dexamethasone-inducible 6b gene, dex-T-6b. Upon induction, dex-T-6b plants develop a large array of morphological modifications, some of which involve abnormal cell expansion. In the present investigation, dex-T-6b-induced expansion was studied in intact leaves and an in vitro leaf disc system. Although T-6b and indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) both induced expansion and were non-additive, T-6b expression did not increase IAA levels, nor did it induce an IAA-responsive gene. Fusicoccin (FC) is known to stimulate expansion by increasing cell wall plasticity. T-6b- and FC-induced expansion were additive at saturating FC concentrations, indicating that T-6b does not act by a similar mechanism to FC. T-6b expression led to higher leaf osmolality values, in contrast to FC, suggesting that the T-6b gene induces expansion by increasing osmolyte concentrations. Metabolite profiling showed that glucose and fructose played a major role in this increase. We infer that T-6b disrupts the osmoregulatory controls that govern cell expansion during development and wound healing.

ABSTRACT This thesis focuses on the study of a sequence of laser-based technology and processes executed in photovoltaic devices, which are essential for the overall development of photovoltaic technologies based on thin film and, in particular, those using amorphous silicon as absorbent and subsequent applications of these technologies with high added value such as the architectural integration of such devices. In much of the PV thin film technologies, and particularly in the amorphous silicon material is deposited on a substrate in an area large enough so that it requires a process of subdivision of the device in cells of appropriate size, and subsequent serial connection to ensure nominal device power figures. This process has been industrially developed years ago, but there has been an associate scientific effort that would learn more about the effects that the processes themselves have either individually on the materials that make up the device and its final characteristics. This work, developed over years in the Laser Center of the UPM, in close collaboration with Centre for Energy and Environmental Research (CIEMAT), the University of Barcelona (UB) and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC)., Focuses precisely in a detailed study of these processes, usually they called P1, P2, P3 and P4 according to the order in which they perform on the device. This study includes both the parameters of the processes, the analysis of the effect they produce on the materials making up the device and its final photoelectric behavior as well as the potential use of EVALUATION of next-generation laser sources (ultrafast) versus standard industry today is the use of conventional laser sources temporal width in the range of nanoseconds. In particular we have studied in detail the advantages and limitations of using systems with different spectral ranges (IR, UV and VIS) and time (nanosecond and picosecond) for different configurations and technological provisions (meaning these typical configurations in substrate and superstrate such devices). Individual characterization of the processes was conducted primarily in laboratory cells specifically designed, opening new approaches and original concepts for improving laser interconnection processes and enabling the use and development of advanced techniques and characterization methods for studying the processes ablation in the different sheets making up the structure of the photovoltaic devices, so it is considered that this work has proposed a completely original methodology, which has proven effective in this area. Finally, the paper addresses a topic of particular interest, as is the possible use of lso developed processes, not to build the photovoltaic modules themselves but to customize fit and visual effects to enhance their use by integrated architectural elements, which is an area of great potential for future development of thin film photovoltaic technologies. Specifically studies manufacture of integrated architecturally and fully functional not only in amorphous silicon devices with transparency effects and generating freeform devices occur, if not also include the ability to make such devices with cells of standard crystalline silicon photovoltaic technology is more visible in the market. It is also important to note that the completion of this work has been possible thanks to the financing obtained with two applied research projects, Microsil (PSE-120000- 2008-1) and INNDISOL (IPT-420000-2019-6), and those for the National R & D funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation and the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness: CLASSIC (ENE 2007-67742-C04-04) and AMIC ENE2010-21384-C04- 02. In fact, within the framework of these projects, the results of this work have helped get some of the most important milestones of photovoltaic technology in our country in recent years, as it was under Microsil making the first module Amorphous silicon technology with entirely Spanish (made in collaboration with CIEMAT), or the manufacture of devices for architectural integration with free geometries that are described in this thesis and that were part of the project Inndisol developments.

In geotechnical engineering, the stability of rock excavations and walls is estimated by using tools that include a map of the orientations of exposed rock faces. However, measuring these orientations by using conventional methods can be time consuming, sometimes dangerous, and is limited to regions of the exposed rock that are reachable by a human. This thesis introduces a 2D, simulated, quadcopter-based rock wall mapping algorithm for GPS denied environments such as underground mines or near high walls on surface. The proposed algorithm employs techniques from the field of robotics known as simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) and is a step towards 3D rock wall mapping. Not only are quadcopters agile, but they can hover. This is very useful for confined spaces such as underground or near rock walls. The quadcopter requires sensors to enable self localization and mapping in dark, confined and GPS denied environments. However, these sensors are limited by the quadcopter payload and power restrictions. Because of these restrictions, a light weight 2D laser scanner is proposed. As a first step towards a 3D mapping algorithm, this thesis proposes a simplified scenario in which a simulated 1D laser range finder and 2D IMU are mounted on a quadcopter that is moving on a plane. Because the 1D laser does not provide enough information to map the 2D world from a single measurement, many measurements are combined over the trajectory of the quadcopter. Least Squares Optimization (LSO) is used to optimize the estimated trajectory and rock face for all data collected over the length of a light. Simulation results show that the mapping algorithm developed is a good first step. It shows that by combining measurements over a trajectory, the scanned rock face can be estimated using a lower-dimensional range sensor. A swathing manoeuvre is introduced as a way to promote loop closures within a short time period, thus reducing accumulated error. Some suggestions on how to improve the algorithm are also provided.

Sound localisation is defined as the ability to identify the position of a sound source. The brain employs two cues to achieve this functionality for the horizontal plane, interaural time difference (ITD) by means of neurons in the medial superior olive (MSO) and interaural intensity difference (IID) by neurons of the lateral superior olive (LSO), both located in the superior olivary complex of the auditory pathway. This paper presents spiking neuron architectures of the MSO and LSO. An implementation of the Jeffress model using spiking neurons is presented as a representation of the MSO, while a spiking neuron architecture showing how neurons of the medial nucleus of the trapezoid body interact with LSO neurons to determine the azimuthal angle is discussed. Experimental results to support this work are presented.
