Studies on the toxic effects of selected heavy metals in the freshwater mussel lamellidens corrianus (lea)

Industrialisation affects air, water, and soil. Industrial effluents which enter the aquatic environment either by direct disposal or through run off, affect living organisms at morphological and physiological levels. In any living tissue toxic materials exert their effects first at molecular and biochemical levels (Robbins and Angell, 1976). Most of the industrial effluents contain elevated concentrations of organic and inorganic chemicals capable of eliciting stimulatory or inhibitory effects on the metabolism of aquatic organisms. Heavy metals form an important group of environmental pollutants. Effects of pollution on the aquatic environment by heavy metals have received considerable attention in recent years due to their toxicity even at very low levels, persistence in the environment, and chances of getting biomagnified. A pollutant that does not affect a particular process under normal unstressed condition may affect the ability of the animal to adjust to changing environmental conditions which ultimately decrease its chances of survival (Thurberg et al., 1973

El viejo que leía novelas de amor.

Este proyecto pretende desarrollar una serie de contenidos de medio ambiente y multiculturalidad, desde un punto de vista interdisciplinar. Las actividades parten de la novela 'El viejo que leía poemas de amor' de Luis Sepúlveda. A través de ella se desarrollan experiencias lingüístico-literarias, geográficas, históricas, culturales y ambientales sobre la Amazonia. Se realizan trabajos de recogida de información, elaboración de informes, prácticas de laboratorio, concursos, exposiciones, conferencias y visionado de películas. La metodología potencia actitudes críticas y participativas contemplando la influencia intercultural en relación con el entorno próximo. La valoración es positiva y se ha observado motivación e implicación tanto por parte de profesores como de alumnos..

El diseño curricular con la entrada de la LOE y la LEA : desde el plan de centro hasta la programación de aula.

La llegada de la Ley Orgánica 2-2006 de Educación (LOE) ha supuesto cambios en el desarrollo curricular tanto a nivel estatal como autonómico en la comunidad andaluza. Para contextualizar estos cambios se hace un recorrido histórico por las distintas leyes de educación como la Ley Orgánica 1-1990 de Ordenación General del Sistema Educativo de España (LOGSE), centrándose en el diseño curricular de los distintos modelos. Tras el análisis de este contexto histórico se pasa a definir el diseño curricular establecido con la LOE y la Ley de Educación de Andalucía (LEA), para lo que se define tanto el plan de centro como el proyecto educativo. Finalmente se realiza una reflexión sobre la evolución de los planes de centro hasta llegar a las programaciones de aula.

USING THE FRESHWATER BIVALVE Anodontites tenebricosus (LEA, 1834) AS A BIOMONITOR OF METALS IN THE RIBEIRA DE IGUAPE RIVER. This study investigated the contamination of the Ribeira de Iguape River - RIR by Cd, Zn, Cr and Pb, using the bivalve Anodontites tenebrieosus as a biomonitor. Metal concentrations in tissue samples were measured by HR-ICPMS. Bivalve tissues exhibited mean levels of 1.00 mu g/g Cd: 152.89 mu g/g Zn; 14.79 mu g/g Cr and 4.40 mu g/g Pb. Lead concentrations were comparable to those reported for moderately contaminated sites. The results showed that Pb is bioavailable to the bivalves, exhibiting high concentrations and exceeding both natural and reference values for human consumption. The freshwater bivalve Anodontites tenebricosus is a suitable biomonitor of contamination by metals.
