Estudo morfológico do efeito radioprotetor da vitamina E (dl-alfa-tocoferil) na reparação tecidual em ratos

Esta pesquisa teve por finalidade avaliar a ação da vitamina E como radioprotetora no processo de reparação tecidual em ratos, após sofrerem um procedimento cirúrgico, que consistiu da produção de uma ferida na região dorsal anterior. Os animais foram divididos em cinco grupos: grupo CO (controle) - constituído de animais em que foi produzida somente a ferida; grupo VE - pré-tratamento com vitamina E (90 UI); grupo IR - irradiação três dias após a cirurgia; grupo VEIR - pré-tratamento com 90 UI de vitamina E e irradiação de suas bordas três dias após a cirurgia; grupo OIR - pré-tratamento com óleo de oliva e irradiação de suas bordas três dias após a cirurgia. A ação radioprotetora da vitamina E foi avaliada pela coloração por hematoxilina-eosina para análise morfológica do tecido de granulação, aos 4, 7, 14 e 21 dias após a cirurgia. A análise dos resultados mostrou que o retardo no processo de reparação tecidual causado por 6 Gy de radiação de elétrons com feixe de 6 MeV não ocorreu no grupo de animais que recebeu vitamina E, mostrando-se esta substância efetiva como radioprotetora.

Synthesis of silver nanoparticles using DL-alanine for ESR dosimetry applications

The potential use of alanine for the production of nanoparticles is presented here for the first time. Silver nanoparticles were synthesized using a simple green method, namely the thermal treatment of silver nitrate aqueous solutions with in-alanine. The latter compound was employed both as a reducing and a capping agent. Particles with average size equal to 7.5 nm, face-centered cubic crystalline structure, narrow size distribution, and spherical shape were obtained. Interaction between the silver ions present on the surface of the nanoparticles and the amine group of the DL-alanine molecule seems to be responsible for reduction of the silver ions and for the stability of the colloid. The bio-hybrid nanocomposite was used as an ESR dosimeter. The amount of silver nanoparticles in the nanocomposite was not sufficient to cause considerable loss of tissue equivalency. Moreover, the samples containing nanoparticles presented increased sensitivity and reduced energetic dependence as compared with pure DL-alanine, contributing to the construction of small-sized dosimeters. Racemates revisited: heterochiral assemblies and the example of DL-thalidomide

The existence of racemic compounds, comprised of pairs of opposite enantiomers as discrete molecular entities, has been accepted for over a century. However, their ability to remain as associated dimers when in solution is uncertain, if not generally doubted. In this article, data has been assembled to provide evidence for the presence of intact dimeric heterochiral assemblies in solution and presents DL-thalidomide as a probable example of this phenomenon.

Efecto de la dl-metionina y la hidroxi-análoga de la dl-metionina sobre la productividad en pollos de engorde

La metionina (Met) es el aminoácido (AA) más limitante en dietas comerciales para avicultura. Durante los últimos 25 años, la DL-Met y la forma líquida del hidroxi análogo de la DL-Metionina ácido libre (MHA-FA) han sido las fuentes propuestas como suplementación en condiciones comerciales. Niveles excesivos de proteína bruta aumentan el coste y pueden perjudicar el desarrollo de las aves (Binder y Lemme, 2007). El objetivo de este ensayo fue evaluar los efectos de niveles crecientes de dos fuentes de Metionina sintética en pollos de engorde de 1 a 34 días de edad.

A Keyword-driven approach for generating OWL DL conformance test data

The conformance of semantic technologies has to be systematically evaluated to measure and verify the real adherence of these technologies to the Semantic Web standards. Currente valuations of semantic technology conformance are not exhaustive enough and do not directly cover user requirements and use scenarios, which raises the need for a simple, extensible and parameterizable method to generate test data for such evaluations. To address this need, this paper presents a keyword-driven approach for generating ontology language conformance test data that can be used to evaluate semantic technologies, details the definition of a test suite for evaluating OWL DL conformance using this approach,and describes the use and extension of this test suite during the evaluation of some tools.

SPARQL-DL queries for antipattern detection

Ontology antipatterns are structures that reflect ontology modelling problems, they lead to inconsistencies, bad reasoning performance or bad formalisation of domain knowledge. Antipatterns normally appear in ontologies developed by those who are not experts in ontology engineering. Based on our experience in ontology design, we have created a catalogue of such antipatterns in the past, and in this paper we describe how we can use SPARQL-DL to detect them. We conduct some experiments to detect them in a large OWL ontology corpus obtained from the Watson ontology search portal. Our results show that each antipattern needs a specialised detection method.
