Eniten mineraalin kulutuksen odotetaan kasvavan muoviteollisuudessa. Suurimmat wollastoniitin tuottajamaat ovat Kiina, Intia, Yhdysvallat, Meksiko ja Suomi. Kiinassa aktiivisia kaivoksia on tällä hetkellä noin 60 kappaletta, ja koko maan tuotanto kattaa noin puolet mineraalin kokonaistuotannosta. Kiinan ulkopuolella toimii yhteensä viisi suurta tuottajaa.Suurimmat wollastoniitin tuottajat ovat intialainen Wolkem India Ltd., kiinalaiset Dalian Huanqui Minerals Corp. ja Jilin Shanwei Wollastonite Mining Co. Ltd, yhdysvaltalaiset Nyco Minerals Inc. ja R.T. Vanderbilt Co., meksikolainen Nyco Minera S.A. de C.V. ja suomalainen Nordkalk Oyj Abp. Uusia tuotantolaitoksia suunnitellaan rakennettavaksi Venäjälle, Kanadaan ja Kazakstaniin.

Mathematical models have been vitally important in the development of technologies in building engineering. A literature review identifies that linear models are the most widely used building simulation models. The advent of intelligent buildings has added new challenges in the application of the existing models as an intelligent building requires learning and self-adjusting capabilities based on environmental and occupants' factors. It is therefore argued that the linearity is an impropriate basis for any model of either complex building systems or occupant behaviours for control or whatever purpose. Chaos and complexity theory reflects nonlinear dynamic properties of the intelligent systems excised by occupants and environment and has been used widely in modelling various engineering, natural and social systems. It is proposed that chaos and complexity theory be applied to study intelligent buildings. This paper gives a brief description of chaos and complexity theory and presents its current positioning, recent developments in building engineering research and future potential applications to intelligent building studies, which provides a bridge between chaos and complexity theory and intelligent building research.

Mathematical models devoted to different aspects of building studies and brought about a significant shift in the way we view buildings. From this background a new definition of building has emerged known as intelligent building that requires integration of a variety of computer-based complex systems. Research relevant to intelligent continues to grow at a much faster pace. This paper is a review of different mathematical models described in literature, which make use of different mathematical methodologies, and are intended for intelligent building studies without complex mathematical details. Models are discussed under a wide classification. Mathematical abstract level of the applied models is detailed and integrated with its literature. The goal of this paper is to present a comprehensive account of the achievements and status of mathematical models in intelligent building research. and to suggest future directions in models.
