The "Río de la Plata" River is one of the less studied systems of the basin with respect to its biological and ecological aspects. Twenty four and twenty seven surface stations were sample on September 22-23 and November 22-23, 1982, respectively. The section studied is part of the zone called inner "Río de la Plata" River. The discharge was 29.000 m3/s in September and 45.200 m3/s in November. Total phosphorus (PT), total organic nitrogen (NOT), chemical oxygen demad (COT) and total cholrophyll were measured. Dissolved oxygen (DO), turbidity (TURB), pH and electrical conductivity (K20) were also measured at the surface with a HORIBA U7 sensor on November 1982. PT was 72-208 mg/m3 and 66-205 mg/m3 in September and November repectively; the higher values were near the Argentinian coast and the outer zone. NOT was 33-106 µM and 49-117 µM and CHL was 1.4-5.8 mg/m3 and 1.3-9.4 mg/m3. TURB was between 44 and 240 NTU in November; the maximun value were obseved in the central zone. Steep K20 gradients were found near both coast. The reduced organic carbon load into the lower and external part of the "Río de la Plata" River was estimated. (Document contains 40 pages.)

A limnological and fish survey program was developed on 112 lakes and reservoirs of Argentina during the summers of 1984 to 1987. Bathymetric surveys with a SIMRAD Skipper 411 model echosounder and line and lead were conducted on more than 40 lakes. This report presents bathymetric maps for seventeen lakes and reservoirs situated in Patagonian Andes Region and Patagonian Plateau betweem 38°53'S and 45°30'S. The bathymetric maps for two reservoirs were made from topographic maps before impoundment. Hypsographic and depth-area curves, and some morphometric parameters are presented for twenty one Patagonian lakes. Mean depth ranged from 2.0 to 111 m. The deepest lakes are situated in Patagonian Andes Region. Colhue Huapi Lake on Patagonian Plateau, is very shallow, having a mean depth of 2.0 m and being 810 km. in surface area.

Sampling sites were located at: 1) a coastal area on Buenos Aires harbour where high concentrations of "sábalo" occur year round and which on account of its importance merits a specific program itself; 2) a coastal fringe from Buenos Aires harbour to Quilmes (34° 10' - 58° 10') and 3) different stations within the inner zone of the river, which were covered through a tagging campaign performed as part of an agreement among INIDEP-Argentina, CARP-Argentina, Uruguay, INAPE-Uruguay. At present (Winter 1989) recaptures from the first seven species have been obtained, with a total recovery of 3.81 o/o the highest percentages corresponding to patí, boga, armado and sábalo. Se presentan los porcentajes de germinación de 12 especies representativas de la vegetación de ribera y matorral del ecosistema del río Tinto en diferentes condiciones de pH (5,4; 3,2; 1,8 y agua del río Tinto). Se observan distintas respuestas de germinación en las especies estudiadas, encontrando los mayores porcentajes de germinación en Nerium oleander y Salicornia ramosissima. Dada la respuesta positiva de estas dos especies, se discute su utilidad para la restauración de los territorios afectados en los alrededores del río Tinto. Para el resto de especies, se observan bajos porcentajes de germinación y en la mayoría de las especies analizadas el pH no influye en la germinación. Hay muchos factores que limitan la germinación de las semillas tales como la latencia que requiere de un pre-tratamiento (de frío o de calor), variación en las condiciones naturales que son difíciles de recrear en el laboratorio o la baja calidad de las semillas.

This thesis explored the relationship between hydrological variability and associated changes in fish communities in the upper Salado river lakes (Pampa plain, Argentina). The sampling design included five sites along the river connected lakes being explored for fish, hydrological and environmental data during different hydrological conditions. The temporal dynamic of main environmental characteristics of these lakes show that hydrology largely regulates some of the most important factors influencing fish ecology. Changes in fish communities associated with this hydrological and environmental dynamic allow to speculate a first approach towards the functioning of the system as a whole. Following oscillation between droughts and floods, study lakes have shown significant changes on abundance of major fish species, as well as on their recruitment success, which finally leaded to marked changes in fish community structure. Interestingly, trophic structure of communities did not change as much. iOdontesthes bonariensis/i was more abundant during droughts and in saltier sites but also displayed an improvement in recruitment success during these harsh abiotic conditions. Conversely, the abundance of iParapimelodus valenciennis, Cyphocharax voga/i and iCyprinus carpio/i as well as its recruitment success, were largely favoured by lower water residence times and total salinity. This dichotomy is mainly based on different life history strategies of these species against flor and environmental variability and it support the existence of different functional groups among the fish species of upper Salado river lakes. iOligosarcus jenynsii/i did not showed as evident functional response. In conclusion, hydrological and environmental variability can be considered as one of the main factors regulating the functioning and structure of fish communities in these very shallow lowland river lakes of the Pampa plain. Following these results some implications for an eventual regulation of the river regime are discussed.

[ES] La evolución fluvial del río Ebro ha sido analizada de forma desigual, siendo más numerosas las investigaciones centradas en su curso medio y bajo. En este trabajo se describe el sistema de terrazas fluviales elaborado por el río Ebro a su paso por la Cuenca de Miranda de Ebro (Álava – Burgos). Se han reconocido cinco niveles de terrazas (T1-T5) mediante su análisis estratigráfico, morfológico y sedimentológico. Las terrazas se sitúan a unas alturas que oscilan entre los 68 y los 5 m sobre el nivel actual del río Ebro. El relleno sedimentario de los niveles más elevados (T1-T4) está compuesto por gravas poligénicas bien clasificadas y muy redondeadas con presencia puntual de niveles de arenas; mientras que el nivel más bajo (T5) está constituido enteramente por partículas finas. Los resultados apuntan hacia variaciones de caudal y aportes sedimentarios, en relación con las oscilaciones climáticas cuaternarias, como los factores que gobiernan la evolución fluvial en la Cuenca de Miranda de Ebro, en coherencia con los modelos de evolución propuestos para otros puntos de la cuenca hidrográfica

El objetivo de este estudio es realizar el control de la de la población de esguines de salmón atlántico en migración descendente al mar,y analizar dicha migración en un marco de parámetros hidrológicos. Para ello, se instaló un capturadero portátil en el canal de derivación de la Papelera Zikuñaga que permitiera capturar una parte de la población de esguines y poder así monitorizarla. Se estimó una población de esguines en migración mayor que en los últimos datos publicados para este emplazamiento, en 2011.
