The Electrolytic Recovery of Copper and Zinc from Scrap Brass with Special Reference to Lead-Bearing Brass.

Several methods have been investigated, with some success, for treating scrap brass to recover copper and zinc, either as pure metals or as salts of the metals. One of the more promising of these methods is electrolysis in sulfate solution for the recovery of pure copper and zinc.

The Measurement of Current Efficiency in Zinc Sulphate Electrolytes Containing Antimony and Cobalt by Hydrogen Evolution

The measurement of current efficiency by hydrogen evolution is based on the assumption that the portion of the current which deposits no zinc will release hydrogen. This assumption is correct for solutions containing no impurities electropositive to zinc.

Gas Analysis by Absorption

There is practically only one method of gas analysis. This was worked out many years ago by Bunsen, Hempel, and Winkler and consists in the successive absorption with different chemicals of the various constituents of the gas. The only improvement to this method is the oxidation and combustion of different components of a mixture followed by absorption.

The use of manganese in the steel industry as a deoxidizing and desulfidizing agent makes it a necessity in modern industry, while the various alloy steels using manganese for the quality of toughness are also indispensable. The Anodic Oxidation of Vanadium in Phosphoric Acid Solution

The purpose of this thesis was to analyze the possibility of recovering the vanadium in the phosphoric acid by anodic oxidation in an electrolytic cell. This problem allowed not only the possibility of improving a commercial operation, but a study of the functioning of an interesting and very important phenomena.

The Recovery of Zinc from Butte Mine Waters

Very little work has been done towards the recovery of zinc from mine water because the zinc content of the water is generally low. As different from copper, which can very easily be replaced by iron in any of its solutions, zinc is very high up in the electro-chemical series and so the few metals above zinc, most of which are rare and hence expensive, cannot be used to replace zinc from its solution.

With the increasing importance of manganese in the metallurgical fields of today and tomorrow, ex­tensive work along the lines of its successful ex­ploitation has been accomplished by many investiga­tors. Since tie current world situation has shut off most of our supply of high-grade manganese ores from foreign sources, the low-grade domestic deposits have entered the fields of investigation very rapidly.

An Investigation into the Recovery of Indium from Fume Residue

Several months were required to produce a single gram of indium. Consequently, the industrial history of the metal is extremely short. In view of the unique properties that indium has demonstrated in this short period, it is probable that indium is still in its early stage of development. However, the commer­cial applications of the metal are well established and indium is now produced on a commercial scale. It is obtainable as the metal or in solution for electroplat­ing.

The High School Transition: A Step Ahead or a Downward Trend

This research was recorded to discourage the placement of 7th and 8th graders into the Anaconda High School, because it was thought that the earlier transition to the high school environment causes poor and illegal decisions to be made as well causing a decrease in the responsibility of students. The research was conducted using the survey research method, and the surveys that were dispersed to the 7th grade through sophomore classes took all possible ethical concerns into consideration. The data collected showed significant increases in the consumption of both alcohol and marijuana after students had made the transition into high school, as well as decreases in student’s levels of responsibility if a substance was being abused.
