Crystal structures of lithium, sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium salts of adenosine 2'-monophosphate (2'-AMP) have been obtained at atomic resolution by X-ray crystallographic methods. 2'-AMP.Li belongs to the monoclinic space group P21 with a = 7.472(3)Å, b = 26.853(6) Å, c = 9.184(1)Å, b = 113.36(1)Å and Z= 4. 2'-AMP.Na and 2'-AMP.K crystallize in the trigonal space groups P31 and P3121 with a = 8.762(1)Å, c = 34.630(5)Å, Z= 6 and a = 8.931(4), Åc = 34.852(9)Å and Z= 6 respectively while 2'-AMP.Ca and 2'-AMP.Mg belong to space groups P6522 and P21 with cell parameters a = 9.487(2), c = 74.622(13), Z = 12 and a = 4.973(1), b = 10.023(2), c = 16.506(2), beta = 91.1(0) and Z = 2 respectively. All the structures were solved by direct methods and refined by full matrix least-squares to final R factors of 0.033, 0.028, 0.075, 0.069 and 0.030 for 2'-AMP.Li, 2'-AMP.Na, 2'- AMP.K, 2'-AMP.Ca and 2'-AMP.Mg, respectively. The neutral adenine bases in all the structures are in syn conformation stabilized by the O5'-N3 intramolecular hydrogen bond as in free acid and ammonium complex reported earlier. In striking contrast, the adenine base is in the anti geometry (cCN = -156.4(2)°) in 2'-AMP.Mg. Ribose moieties adopt C2'-endo puckering in 2'-AMP.Li and 2'-AMP.Ca, C2'-endo-C3'-exo twist puckering in 2'-AMP.Na and 2'-AMP.K and a C3'-endo-C2'-exo twist puckering in 2'-AMP.Mg structure. The conformation about the exocyclic C4'-C5' bond is the commonly observed gauche-gauche (g+) in all the structures except the gauche- trans (g-) conformation observed in 2'-AMP.Mg structure. Lithium ions coordinate with water, ribose and phosphate oxygens at distances 1.88 to 1.99Å. Na+ ions and K+ ions interact with phosphate and ribose oxygens directly and with N7 indirectly through a water oxygen. A distinct feature of 2'-AMP.Na and 2'-AMP.K structures is the involvement of ribose O4' in metal coordination. The calcium ion situated on a two-fold axis coordinates directly with three oxygens OW1, OW2 and O2 and their symmetry mates at distances 2.18 to 2.42Å forming an octahedron. A classic example of an exception to the existence of the O5'-N3 intramolecular hydorgen bond is the 2'-AMP.Mg strucure. Magnesium ion forms an octahedral coordination with three water and three phosphate oxygens at distances ranging from 2.02 to 2.11Å. A noteworthy feature of its coordination is the indirect link with N3 through OW3 oxygen resulting in macrochelation between the base and the phosphate group. Greater affnity of metal clays towards 5' compared to 2' and 3' nucleotides (J. Lawless, E. Edelson, and L. Manring, Am. Chem. Soc. Northwest Region Meeting, Seattle. 1978) due to macrochelation infered from solution studies (S. S. Massoud, H. Sigel, Eur. J. Biochem. 179, 451-458 (1989)) and interligand hydrogen bonding induced by metals postulated from metal-nucleotide structures in solid state (V. Swaminathan and M. Sundaralingam, CRC. Crit. Rev. Biochem. 6, 245-336 (1979)) are borne out by our structures also. The stacking patterns of adenine bases of both 2'-AMP.Na and 2'-AMP.K structures resemble the 2'-AMP.NH4 structure reported in the previous article. 2'-AMP.Li, 2'-AMP.Ca and 2'-AMP.Mg structures display base-ribose O4' stacking. An overview of interaction of monovalent and divalent cations with 2' and 5'-nucleotides has been presented.

Capillary electrophoresis with amperometric detection is evaluated for the simultaneous determination of 2-aminothiazole (A), 2-amino-benzothiazole (AB), 2-mercaptobenzothiazole (AM). The cyclic voltammogram, hydrodynamic voltammogram, effect of pH, concentration of buffer and separation voltage on the separation and the detection were studied. The conditions were optimized as follows: 50 mM phosphate buffet; pH 6.0, 2s at 17.5 kV sample injection, separation at 17.5 kV, 1.2 V as detection potential. The method provided low detection limit as 0.5 mu M, 0.05 mu M and 0.01 mu M, wide linear range 2-200 mu M, 10-200 mu M and 0.025-100 mu M for A, AB, and AM, respectively. The variations in peak current and migration time for 15 consecutive injections of a standard containing 5 mu M each compound were 3.7, 2.1, and 3.9%, and 1.2, 0.8, and 1.2%, for A, AB and AM, respectively. This method was employed to analyze river water.

Single crystals of KLnN(Ln=La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm) can be grown in water solution with pH approximate to 1 similar to 2 at about 40 degrees C. Crystals of KLnN (Ln=La, Ce, Pr, Nd) are orthorhombic with space group Fdd2. KPrN crystal was grwon and its crystal structure was determined for the first time. The KPrN crystal parameters obtained by the direct method are as follows: a=21.411(3) Angstrom, b=11.2210(10)Angstrom, c=12.208(2) Angstrom, Z=6, R=0.0240. The TG-DTA curves of KLnN(Ln=La,Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm) demonstrate that the processes of dehydration, melt, irreversible phase transition and decomposition of NO3- take place in sequence with the temperature increasing(except KCN). There are three steps in the decomposition of NO3- in KLnN(Ln=La, Nd, Sm) while two steps in KLnN (Ln=Ce, Pr). K(2)Ln(NO3)(5). 2H(2)O are formed at about 225 degrees C by the reaction of the starting materials of KNO3 and Ln(NO3)(3). nH(2)O.

The complex formed by the reaction of the uranyl ion, UO22+, with bromide ions in the ionic liquids 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([Bmiml[Tf2N]) and methyl-tributylammonium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([MeBu3N][Tf2N]) has been investigated by UV-Vis and U L-III-edge EXAFS spectroscopy and compared to the crystal structure of [Bmim](2)[UO2Br4]. The solid state reveals a classical tetragonal bipyramid geometry for [UO2Br4](2-) with hydrogen bonds between the Bmim(+) and the coordinated bromides. The UV-Vis spectroscopy reveals the quantitative formation of [UO2Br4](2-) when a stoichiometric amount of bromide ions is added to UO2(CF3SO3)(2) in both Tf2N-based ionic liquids. The absorption spectrum also suggests a D-4h symmetry for [UO2Br4](2-) in ionic liquids, as previously observed for the [UO2Cl4](2-) congener. EXAFS analysis supports this conclusion and demonstrates that the [UO2Br4](2-) coordination polyhedron is maintained in the ionic liquids without any coordinating solvent or water molecules. The mean U-O and U-Br distances in the solutions, determined by EXAFS, are, respectively, 1.766(2) and 2.821(2)angstrom in [Bmim][Tf2N], and, respectively, 1.768(2) and 2.827(2) angstrom, in [MeBu3N][Tf2N]. Similar results are obtained in both ionic liquids indicating no significant influence of the ionic liquid cation either on the complexation reaction or on the structure of the uranyl species. Propionibacterium acnes is an anaerobic Gram-positive bacterium that has been linked to a wide range of opportunistic human infections and conditions, most notably acne vulgaris (I. Kurokawa et al., Exp. Dermatol. 18:821-832, 2009). We now present the whole-genome sequences of three P. acnes strains from the type IA(2) cluster which were recovered from ophthalmic infections (A. McDowell et al., Microbiology 157:1990-2003, 2011).

A new polymeric zinc(II) complex with thiophene-2-carboxylic acid (-tpc) of composition [Zn2(C20H12O8S4)]n was obtained and structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and infrared spectroscopies. Upfield shift in the 1H-NMR spectrum is explained by the crystalline structure, which shows the thiophene rings overlapping each other in parallel pairs. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P21/c, with a = 9.7074(4) angstrom, b = 13.5227(3) angstrom, c = 18.9735(7) angstrom, = 95.797(10)degrees, and Z = 4. Three -tpc groups bridge between two Zn(II) ions through oxygens and the fourth one bridges between one of these ions and the third one, symmetry related by a twofold screw axis. This arrangement gives rise to infinite chains along the crystallographic a direction. The metal atoms display an approximate tetrahedral configuration. The complex is insoluble in water, ethanol, and acetone, but soluble in dimethyl sulfoxide.
