A Subcomissão dos Direitos Políticos, dos Direitos Coletivos e Garantias da Assembleia Nacional Constituinte (ANC) recebe Rex Nazaré Alves, Presidente da Comissão de Energia Nuclear que fala sobre as contas secretas mantidas pelo Conselho de Segurança Nacional (CSN), cujos recursos são utilizados em pesquisas. Maurílio Ferreira Lima (PMDB-CE), Presidente da Subcomissão, defende o controle das contas secretas pelo Legislativo. A Subcomissão da Nacionalidade, da Soberania e das Relações Internacionais recebe Jorge Monteiro Fernandes, representante da União Brasileira de Informática Pública, que aborda a relação de reserva de mercado de informática e a soberania nacional. Paulo Macarini (PMDB-SC) defende a reserva de mercado. A Subcomissão dos Municípios e Regiões ouve representantes da Superintendência do Desenvolvimento do Nordeste (SUDENE), da Superintendência da Zona Franca de Manaus (SUFRAMA), da Superintendência do Desenvolvimento da Amazônia (SUDAM) e da Secretaria de Articulação com Estados e Municípios (SAREM). Elverlindo Renklein, representante do Departamento Intersindical de Estatística e Estudos Socioeconômicos (DIEESE), defende o fim do imposto de renda (IRRF) para assalariados na Subcomissão de Tributos, Participação e Distribuição das Receitas. Simão Sessim (PFL-RJ) aprova a palestra de Elverlindo e defende a fiscalização unificada dos impostos.

The Nutrient Enhanced Coastal Ocean Productivity (NECOP) Program is a component of NOAA's Coastal Ocean Program. The central hypothesis of this research is: Anthropogenic nutrient inputs have enhanced coastal ocean productivity with subsequent impacts on coastal ocean water quality, living resource yields, and the global marine carbon cycle. The initial study area for this program is the Mississippi/Atchafalaya River Outflow and adjacent Louisiana shelf region.

BRCA1 has been implicated in numerous DNA repair pathways that maintain genome integrity, however the function responsible for its tumor suppressor activity in breast cancer remains obscure. To identify the most highly conserved of the many BRCA1 functions, we screened the evolutionarily distant eukaryote Saccharomyces cerevisiae for mutants that suppressed the G1 checkpoint arrest and lethality induced following heterologous BRCA1 expression. A genome-wide screen in the diploid deletion collection combined with a screen of ionizing radiation sensitive gene deletions identified mutants that permit growth in the presence of BRCA1. These genes delineate a metabolic mRNA pathway that temporally links transcription elongation (SPT4, SPT5, CTK1, DEF1) to nucleopore-mediated mRNA export (ASM4, MLP1, MLP2, NUP2, NUP53, NUP120, NUP133, NUP170, NUP188, POM34) and cytoplasmic mRNA decay at P-bodies (CCR4, DHH1). Strikingly, BRCA1 interacted with the phosphorylated RNA polymerase II (RNAPII) carboxy terminal domain (P-CTD), phosphorylated in the pattern specified by the CTDK-I kinase, to induce DEF1-dependent cleavage and accumulation of a RNAPII fragment containing the P-CTD. Significantly, breast cancer associated BRCT domain defects in BRCA1 that suppressed P-CTD cleavage and lethality in yeast also suppressed the physical interaction of BRCA1 with human SPT5 in breast epithelial cells, thus confirming SPT5 as a relevant target of BRCA1 interaction. Furthermore, enhanced P-CTD cleavage was observed in both yeast and human breast cells following UV-irradiation indicating a conserved eukaryotic damage response. Moreover, P-CTD cleavage in breast epithelial cells was BRCA1-dependent since damage-induced P-CTD cleavage was only observed in the mutant BRCA1 cell line HCC1937 following ectopic expression of wild type BRCA1. Finally, BRCA1, SPT5 and hyperphosphorylated RPB1 form a complex that was rapidly degraded following MMS treatment in wild type but not BRCA1 mutant breast cells. These results extend the mechanistic links between BRCA1 and transcriptional consequences in response to DNA damage and suggest an important role for RNAPII P-CTD cleavage in BRCA1-mediated cancer suppression.

OBJECTIVE: To clarify whether the increase in childhood type 1 diabetes is mirrored by a decrease in older age-groups, resulting in younger age at diagnosis.
RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: We used data from two prospective research registers, the Swedish Childhood Diabetes Register, which included case subjects aged 0-14.9 years at diagnosis, and the Diabetes in Sweden Study, which included case subjects aged 15-34.9 years at diagnosis, covering birth cohorts between 1948 and 2007. The total database included 20,249 individuals with diabetes diagnosed between 1983 and 2007. Incidence rates over time were analyzed using Poisson regression models.
RESULTS: The overall yearly incidence rose to a peak of 42.3 per 100,000 person-years in male subjects aged 10-14 years and to a peak of 37.1 per 100,000 person-years in female subjects aged 5-9 years and decreased thereafter. There was a significant increase by calendar year in both sexes in the three age-groups <15 years; however, there were significant decreases in the older age-groups (25- to 29-years and 30- to 34-years age-groups). Poisson regression analyses showed that a cohort effect seemed to dominate over a time-period effect.
CONCLUSIONS: Twenty-five years of prospective nationwide incidence registration demonstrates a clear shift to younger age at onset rather than a uniform increase in incidence rates across all age-groups. The dominance of cohort effects over period effects suggests that exposures affecting young children may be responsible for the increasing incidence in the younger age-groups.

La phosphorylation du domaine C-terminal de l’ARN polymérase II permet à ce complexe protéique d’exécuter la transcription des gènes, en plus de coupler à la transcription des événements moléculaires comme la maturation des ARNm. Mes résultats montrent que même si cette phosphorylation suit un patron similaire à l’ensemble des gènes, il existe des exceptions pouvant être dues à des mécanismes alternatifs de phosphorylation du CTD. Le présent ouvrage s’intéresse également au rôle qu’occupe la variante d’histone H2A.Z dans l’organisation de la chromatine. Des études précédentes on montré que le positionnement de certains nucléosomes le long de l’ADN serait influencé par H2A.Z et aurait une influence sur la capacité de transcrire les gènes. Par une approche génomique utilisant les puces à ADN, j’ai cartographié l’impact de la délétion de H2A.Z sur la structure des nucléosomes. Enfin, des résultats intéressants sur la dynamique d’incorporation de H2A.Z à la chromatine ont été obtenus.
