Este artículo presenta el análisis de los resultados obtenidos al aplicar TSPi en el desarrollo de un proyecto software en una microempresa desde el punto de vista de la calidad y la productividad. La organización en estudio necesitaba mejorar la calidad de sus procesos pero no contaba con los recursos económicos que requieren modelos como CMMI-DEV. Por esta razón, se decidió utilizar un proceso adaptado a la organización basado en TSPi, observándose una reducción en la desviación de las estimaciones, un incremento en la productividad, y una mejora en la calidad.---ABSTRACT---This article shows the benefits of developing a software project using TSPi in a “Very Small Enterprise” based in quality and productivity measures. An adapted process from the current process based on the TSPi was defined and the team was trained in it. The workaround began by gathering historical data from previous projects in order to get a measurement repository, and then the project metrics were collected. Finally, the process, product and quality improvements were verified.

Este proyecto ha sido estructurado en tres bloques diferenciados que tiene como objetivo analizar el presente, pasado y futuro de la gestión de proyectos con una orientación clara a ofrecer apoyo a aquellas empresas que planeen realizar un giro en sus estructura de organización de trabajo hacia filosofías ágiles. La gestión de proyectos a acompañado al hombre desde el inicio de los tiempos, pero sin embargo no fue hasta nuestra historia más cercana cuando se comienza a tener conciencia de la necesidad de establecer aplicar métodos generales a la hora de afrontar proyectos de ingeniería. Pioneros fueron en este sentido personajes como Taylor, Fayol o Gantt, cuyas aportaciones iniciales posibilitaron el nacimiento de la gestión de proyectos a mediados del siglo XX. En las década sucesivas hasta nuestros días han aparecido un número considerable de metodologías, perfeccionando elementos anteriormente asimilados y adaptándose a la realidad tecnológica y social del momento. Este recorrido histórico se aborda en el primer bloque de este proyecto. Los puntos revisados en la introducción histórica proporcionan las bases de conocimiento para entender las principales características entre las grandes familias de metodologías que actualmente son implantadas en el mundo empresarial. Es precisamente este punto, el de la exposición y análisis de las metodologías más extendidas y contemporáneas a la elaboración de este proyecto, lo que se aborda en el segundo bloque. En él se desarrolla con intenso detalle dos metodologías de la familia de filosofías ágiles, elegidas entre las más extendidas en la industria: Scrum, eXtreme Programming (XP) y un híbrido de ambas. Para entender la dimensión del cambio filosófico en cuanto a la gestión de proyectos que emprenden estas metodologías, se hace necesario repasar cuales son las metodologías no ágiles más extendidas actualmente. Para ello se introducen metodologías como la llamada tradicional o PRINCE2, principalmente, ya que también se realiza un repaso más superficial por otras aproximaciones notables. El último bloque que construye el desenlace del proyecto, intenta responder a las cuestiones futuras relacionadas con la adopción de metodologías ágiles. Para ello se revisa los puntos más conflictivos a señalar en este proceso y se ofrecerán soluciones teóricas y prácticas para ayudar a las empresas en su fase de migración hacia filosofías de organización ágiles. Ya que toda empresa hoy en día debería tener un soporte tecnológico que ofrezca apoyo a su desarrollo empresarial, gran parte de la elaboración de este proyecto se ha dedicado a hacer un estudio comparativo de las actuales herramientas Open Source. Se han instalado y probado 25 herramientas para posteriormente seleccionar 3 que han sido analizadas en profundidad. Así mismo, se enumeran pros y contras de estas herramientas, aportando ideas de mejoras y trazando cuál debería ser su evolución para ofrecer una alternativa real a las herramientas comerciales orientadas a esta labor. Las empresas pueden utilizar este índice de herramientas de software para decidir si pueden sustentar su proceso de migración en una herramienta Open Source o si deben orientarse a herramientas comerciales o de creación propias. ABSTRACT. This project has been divided into three different blocks that aims to analyze the past, present and future of project management with a clear focus on providing support to those companies that are planning to make a shift in its organizational structure working towards agile philosophies . The project management has walked together with the humanity since the beginning of time , but it was on our recent history when it begins to become aware of the need to establish general methods to apply to engineering projects. There was pioneers like Taylor , Fayol or Gantt, whose contributions made possible the birth of project management in the mid- twentieth century. In the following decades, there was a considerable number of new methodologies, improving concepts and adapting then to the technological and social reality of the moment . This historical journey is addressed in the first block of this project. The different facts reviewed at the first block provide the knowledge to understand the key features among the most important families of methodologies that nowadays are implemented in the business world. It is precisely this point, the presentation and analysis of the most widespread methodologies what is addressed in the second block. Two of the most widespread agile methodologies are detailed: Scrum , eXtreme Programming ( XP ) and a hybrid of both . In order to understand the philosophical shift in terms of project management performed by these methodologies , it is necessary to review what are the most widespread no agile methodologies currently. For this purpose, methodologies like Waterfall or PRINCE2 are explained. Other no agile methodologies are explained as well, but not so deeply in comparison with them. The last section of this project is the conclusion, it tries to answer future questions related to the adoption of agile methodologies. For that reason, the most important milestones are reviewed to provide theoretical and practical solutions and answers to help companies in this migration process toward agile methodologies. Since every company should has a solid technical support for its business development, a considerably part of the time has been applied to make a comparative study of the existing Open Source tools. 25 tools have been installed and tested. Then, 3 tools has been selected to be analyzed deeply. Also, pros and cons of these tools have been exposed in order to suggest a roadmap to offer a real alternative to the existing commercial tools in this business area. The companies that are involved in a migration progress toward a agile methodology can used this study about the available Open Source tools to decide if they can afford the migration process based on one of them or if they should use a commercial tool or a tailor-made software.

La propuesta del trabajo de fin de grado escogida por el autor del proyecto se basa en la continuación del proyecto comenzado durante la asignatura de Prácticum del pasado semestre. El nacimiento del mismo se gestó en una pequeña empresa de consultoría llamada ‘Grupo Develop’ (en la sección ‘Entidad colaboradora y ubicación’ se describe más detalladamente la organización) situada al este de Madrid, una organización con carácter de fundación y dedicada, esencialmente, al sector de la consultoría en el sector de la calidad. Grupo Develop necesitaba aprovechar la utilidad de las nuevas tecnologías para ofrecer un nuevo y mejor servicio para sus clientes mediante un proyecto que fuera dirigido y llevado a cabo por un ingeniero informático. Partiendo de este contexto se vislumbró un proyecto consistente en diseñar, desplegar, programar y mantener una plataforma-sistema informático capaz de ayudar a las organizaciones (en este caso particular la mayoría son organizaciones sin ánimo de lucro) a gestionarse mejor de acuerdo a distintos modelos de calidad como pueden ser el EFQM1 o ISO. Además, la certificación en ambos modelos son cada vez más demandados como garantía de calidad por organismos públicos y privados e incluso por los clientes. Por lo tanto, este programa debe llegar a ser una herramienta que realmente apoye a cada entidad a elaborar un diagnóstico de su gestión y, por supuesto, debe conseguir acercar a estas empresas a los certificados más prestigiosos. Desde el punto de vista de un profesional del sector de la informática, el proyecto se estructura de una forma clara en una arquitectura cliente-servidor clásica donde todas las entidades (de momento 15) han participado de forma activa y paralela al desarrollo del proyecto. Si bien es cierto que esto ha ralentizado notablemente el desarrollo del proyecto y ha requerido una sincronización entre dos proyectos paralelos (uno para el despliegue y otro para el desarrollo).---ABSTRACT---The proposal of my graduation work is a continuation of the project that I already started in the Practicum subject the first part of the academic year. The birth of that project arose in a small consulting firm (Grupo Develop) in the east of Madrid, an organization that at the same time is incorporated as a Foundation. This organization works with different NGO´s and their work covers the Quality Consulting Sector. Grupo Develop needed to use new technologies to give a new and best service to our customers through a project managed by a person trained in the computer science area. Starting from this context, Grupo Develop saw a new opportunity to create a project to design, deploy and maintain a platform-system that can help our customers (in this case the organizations are often organizations from the Third Sector) to get a best management in some Norms or Models like ISO or EFQM. Also in some cases the Certifications of any of these models are increasingly demanded as quality assurance by public entities, privates and even by clients. Therefore, this program should be a tool that helps to any organization to make a diagnosis of their management and, of course, should close to these companies to the most prestigious Certificates. From a point of view of a computer science student, the software project has a defined structure in a classic client-server model where all the organizations (15) have actively participated in parallel mode to the development of the project. It is true that the involvement of the organizations has slowed the development of the project so I had to create two projects (one for the different organizations and the other one to develop the major improvements).

The history of Software Engineering has been marked by many famous project failures documented in papers, articles and books. This pattern of lack of success has prompted the creation of dozens of software analysis, requirements definition, and design methods, programming languages, software development environments and software development processes all promoted as solving ?the software problem.? What we hear less about are software projects that were successful. This article reports on the findings of an extensive analysis of successful software projects that have been reported in the literature. It discusses the different interpretations of success and extracts the characteristics that successful projects have in common. These characteristics provide Software Project Managers with an agenda of topics to be addressed that will help ensure, not guarantee, that their software project will be successful.

Questa tesi concerne quella che è una generalizzata tendenza verso la trasformazione digitale dei processi di business. Questa evoluzione, che implica l’utilizzo delle moderne tecnologie informatiche tra cui il Cloud Computing, le Big Data Analytics e gli strumenti Mobile, non è priva di insidie che vanno di volta in volta individuate ed affrontate opportunamente. In particolare si farà riferimento ad un caso aziendale, quello della nota azienda bolognese FAAC spa, ed alla funzione acquisti. Nell'ambito degli approvvigionamenti l'azienda sente la necessità di ristrutturare e digitalizzare il processo di richiesta di offerta (RdO) ai propri fornitori, al fine di consentire alla funzione di acquisti di concentrarsi sull'implementazione della strategia aziendale più che sull'operatività quotidiana. Si procede quindi in questo elaborato all'implementazione di un progetto di implementazione di una piattaforma specifica di e-procurement per la gestione delle RdO. Preliminarmente vengono analizzati alcuni esempi di project management presenti in letteratura e quindi viene definito un modello per la gestione del progetto specifico. Lo svolgimento comprende quindi: una fase di definizione degli obiettivi di continuità dell'azienda, un'analisi As-Is dei processi, la definizione degli obiettivi specifici di progetto e dei KPI di valutazione delle performance, la progettazione della piattaforma software ed infine alcune valutazioni relative ai rischi ed alle alternative dell'implementazione.

Software Configuration Management is the discipline of managing large collections of software development artefacts from which software products are built. Software configuration management tools typically deal with artefacts at fine levels of granularity - such as individual source code files - and assist with coordination of changes to such artefacts. This paper describes a lightweight tool, designed to be used on top of a traditional file-based configuration management system. The add-on tool support enables users to flexibly define new hierarchical views of product structure, independent of the underlying artefact-repository structure. The tool extracts configuration and change data with respect to the user-defined hierarchy, leading to improved visibility of how individual subsystems have changed. The approach yields a range of new capabilities for build managers, and verification and validation teams. The paper includes a description of our experience using the tool in an organization that builds large embedded software systems.

This paper describes and analyses an innovative engineering management course that applies a project management framework in the context of a feasibility study for a prospective research project. The aim is to have students learn aspects of management that will be relevant from the outset of their professional career while simultaneously having immediate value in helping them to manage a research project and capstone design project in their senior year. An integral part of this innovation was the development of a web-based project management tool. While the main objectives of the new course design were achieved, a number of important lessons were learned that would guide the further development and continuous improvement of this course. The most critical of these is the need to achieve the optimum balance in the mind of the students between doing the project and critically analyzing the processes used to accomplish the work.

Construction projects are risky. However, the characteristics of the risk highly depend on the type of procurement being adopted for managing the project. A build-operate-transfer (BOT) project is recognized as one of the most risky project schemes. There are instances of project failure where a BOT scheme was employed. Ineffective rts are increasingly being managed using various risk management tools and techniques. However, application of those tools depends on the nature of the project, organization's policy, project management strategy, risk attitude of the project team members, and availability of the resources. Understanding of the contents and contexts of BOT projects, together with a thorough understanding of risk management tools and techniques, helps select processes of risk management for effective project implementation in a BOT scheme. This paper studies application of risk management tools and techniques in BOT projects through reviews of relevant literatures and develops a model for selecting risk management process for BOT projects. The application to BOT projects is considered from the viewpoints of the major project participants. Discussion is also made with regard to political risks. This study would contribute to the establishment of a framework for systematic risk management in BOT projects.

Purpose - The purpose of the paper is to the identify risk factors, which affect oil and gas construction projects in Vietnam and derive risk responses. Design/methodology/approach - Questionnaire survey was conducted with the involvement of project executives of PetroVietnam and statistical analysis was carried out in order to identify the major project risks. Subsequently, mitigating measures were derived using informal interviews with the various levels of management of PetroVietnam. Findings - Bureaucratic government system and long project approval procedures, poor design, incompetence of project team, inadequate tendering practices, and late internal approval processes from the owner were identified as major risks. The executives suggested various strategies to mitigate the identified risks. Reforming the government system, effective partnership with foreign collaborators, training project executives, implementing contractor evaluation using multiple criteria decision-making technique, and enhancing authorities of project people were suggested as viable approaches. Practical implications - The improvement measures as derived in this study would improve chances of project success in the oil and gas industry in Vietnam. Originality/value - There are several risk management studies on managing projects in developing countries. However, as risk factors vary considerably across industry and countries, the study of risk management for successful projects in the oil and gas industry in Vietnam is unique and has tremendous importance for effective project management.

This study demonstrates a quantitative approach to construction risk management through analytic hierarchy process and decision tree analysis. All the risk factors are identified, their effects are quantified by determining probability and severity, and various alternative responses are generated with cost implication for mitigating the quantified risks. The expected monetary values are then derived for each alternative in a decision tree framework and subsequent probability analysis aids the decision process in managing risks. The entire methodology is explained through a case application of a cross-country petroleum pipeline project in India and its effectiveness in project management is demonstrated.

Conventional project management techniques are not always sufficient for ensuring time, cost and quality achievement of large-scale construction projects due to complexity in planning and implementation processes. The main reasons for project non-achievement are changes in scope and design, changes in Government policies and regulations, unforeseen inflation) under-estimation and improper estimation. Projects that are exposed to such an uncertain environment can be effectively managed with the application of risk numagement throughout project life cycle. However, the effectiveness of risk management depends on the technique in which the effects of risk factors are analysed and! or quantified. This study proposes Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), a multiple attribute decision-making technique as a tool for risk analysis because it can handle subjective as well as objective factors in decision model that are conflicting in nature. This provides a decision support system (DSS) to project managenumt for making the right decision at the right time for ensuring project success in line with organisation policy, project objectives and competitive business environment. The whole methodology is explained through a case study of a cross-country petroleum pipeline project in India and its effectiveness in project1nana.gement is demonstrated.

Purpose - The purpose of the paper is to develop an integrated quality management model, which identifies problems, suggests solutions, develops a framework for implementation and helps evaluate performance of health care services dynamically. Design/methodology/approach - This paper uses logical framework analysis (LFA), a matrix approach to project planning for managing quality. This has been applied to three acute healthcare services (Operating room utilization, Accident and emergency, and Intensive care) in order to demonstrate its effectiveness. Findings - The paper finds that LFA is an effective method of quality management of hospital-based healthcare services. Research limitations/implications - This paper shows LFA application in three service processes in one hospital. However, ideally this is required to be tested in several hospitals and other services as well. Practical implications - In the paper the proposed model can be practised in hospital-based healthcare services for improving performance. Originality/value - The paper shows that quality improvement in healthcare services is a complex and multi-dimensional task. Although various quality management tools are routinely deployed for identifying quality issues in health care delivery and corrective measures are taken for superior performance, there is an absence of an integrated approach, which can identify and analyze issues, provide solutions to resolve those issues, develop a project management framework (planning, monitoring, and evaluating) to implement those solutions in order to improve process performance. This study introduces an integrated and uniform quality management tool. It integrates operations with organizational strategies. © Emerald Group Publishing Limited.

Healthcare services available these days deploy high technology to satisfy both internal and external customers by continuously improving various quality parameters. Quality improvement in healthcare services is a complex and multidimensional task. Although various quality management tools are routinely deployed for identifying quality issues in healthcare delivery, there is absence of an integrated approach, which can identify and analyse issues, provide solutions to resolve those issues and develop a project management framework to implement and evaluate those solutions. This study introduces an integrated and uniform quality management framework for healthcare services. This study uses the Logical Framework Analysis (LFA) to improve the performance of healthcare services. LFA has three major steps - problem identification, solution derivation and formation of a planning matrix for implementation and evaluation. LFA has been applied in a case study environment to three acute healthcare services (Operating Room (OR) utilisation, Accident and Emergency (A&E) and intensive care) in order to demonstrate its effectiveness.
