A ferric molybdenum phosphate with a tunnel: hydrothermal synthesis and structure of (NH3CH2CH2NH3)(2)center dot(NH3CH2CH2NH2)(3)center dot Na center dot[Fe2Mo12O30(PO4)(HPO4)(4)(H2PO4)(3)]center dot 7H(2)O

A new ferric molybdenum phosphate containing a tunnel structure and crystallographically different clusters has been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. A probe reaction of the oxidation of acetaldehyde with H2O2 using the tide compound as catalyst was carried out in a liquid-solid system, showing that the title compound had high catalytic activity in the reaction. The effect of structural parameters on the enthalpy relaxation of an inorganic glass (Li2O center dot 2SiO(2))

The structural relaxation process of an inorganic glass (Li2O . 2SiO(2)) at an ageing temperature of 703 K for an ageing time of 1 h has been studied by differential scanning calorimetry. A four-parameter model-the Tool-Narayanaswamy-Moynihan (TNM)-model was applied to simulate the normalized specific heat curve measured. A set of optimized parameters, Delta h*/R,beta,InA, and x was obtained. Then the effects of variation of each adjustable parameter on the calculated specific heat were summarized. Science incubators: synthesis centers and their role in the research ecosystem.

How should funding agencies enable researchers to explore high-risk but potentially high-reward science? One model that appears to work is the NSF-funded synthesis center, an incubator for community-led, innovative science.

The Sentinel-3 Mission Performance Center

As part of the Sentinel-3 mission and in order to ensure the highest quality of products, ESA in cooperation with EUMETSAT has set up the Sentinel-3 Mission Performance Centre (S-3 MPC). This facility is part of the Payload Data Ground Segment (PDGS) and aims at controlling the quality of all generated products, from L0 to L2. The S-3 MPC is composed of a Coordinating Centre (CC), where the core infrastructure is hosted, which is in charge of the main routine activities (especially the quality control of data) and the overall service management. Expert Support Laboratories (ESLs) are involved in calibration and validation activities and provide specific assessment of the products (e.g., analysis of trends, ad hoc analysis of anomalies, etc.). The S-3 MPC interacts with the Processing Archiving Centres (PACs) and the Marine centre at EUMETSAT.

Spin-Polarization Mechanisms of the Nitrogen-Vacancy Center in Diamond

The nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center in diamond has shown great promise for quantum information due to the ease of initializing the qubit and of reading out its state. Here we show the leading mechanism for these effects gives results opposite from experiment; instead both must rely on new physics. Furthermore, NV centers fabricated in nanometer-sized diamond clusters are stable, motivating a bottom-up qubit approach, with the possibility of quite different optical properties to bulk.

Narrow-band variable center frequency single-loop and multistage sigma-delta modulators for bandpass signals

Oversampled narrow-band single-loop and multistage resonator-based bandpass sigma-delta (Σ-Δ) modulators that can accommodate different passband center to sampling frequency ratios are reported. These tunable bandpass configurations are designed by analytically determining and subsequently verifying through detailed empirical simulations the required compensation hardware to deliver enhanced noise-shaping. It is demonstrated that comparatively superior in-band signal-to-noise ratios and dynamic ranges are attributed to the inclusion of appropriate digital feedforward and feedback compensators within these structures.

Le travail sociologique en contexte révolutionnaire : l’ambiguïté entre science et politique dans la vie et l’oeuvre de Pitirim A. Sorokin en Russie

Pitirim A. Sorokin est l'un des plus importants sociologues américains du XXe siècle. Ses contributions à la sociologie sont non seulement nombreuses, mais surtout diversifiées. La majorité de ses ouvrages furent traduits et toutes les grandes langues du monde ont accès à au moins un de ses livres. Cependant, en Occident, sa carrière précédant son émigration aux États-Unis fut longtemps négligée, les critiques s'intéressant plutôt à ses écrits post-Russie. Par ailleurs, très peu d'écrits francophones existent sur cette grande figure de la sociologie américaine. Remédiant à cette situation, ce mémoire revisite la vie et l'oeuvre de Sorokin en Russie et présente aux lecteurs contemporains la partie éclipsée de sa carrière. Plus précisément, la recherche porte sur la carrière russe de Pitirim A. Sorokin d'un point de vue biographique et sociologique. La question au coeur du travail est la suivante : Comment expliquer la production sociologique de Pitirim A. Sorokin en Russie? Dans une première partie est présentée sa biographie entre 1889 et 1923. L'objectif est de décrire la formation de son habitus et les diverses positions qu'il occupa. La seconde partie, quant à elle, résume les recherches produites par le sociologue avant son exil et montre en quoi ses prises de positions scientifiques furent déterminées par son parcours.

It is proved that for an arbitrary graph G and S V (G) it can be decided in polynomial time whether S is the antimedian set of some profile. On The Center Sets and Center Numbers of Some Graph Classes

For a set S of vertices and the vertex v in a connected graph G, max x2S d(x, v) is called the S-eccentricity of v in G. The set of vertices with minimum S-eccentricity is called the S-center of G. Any set A of vertices of G such that A is an S-center for some set S of vertices of G is called a center set. We identify the center sets of certain classes of graphs namely, Block graphs, Km,n, Kn −e, wheel graphs, odd cycles and symmetric even graphs and enumerate them for many of these graph classes. We also introduce the concept of center number which is defined as the number of distinct center sets of a graph and determine the center number of some graph classes

Correlación de las condiciones de iluminación, ángulo visual, agudeza visual y contraste con y síntomas visuales en trabajadores de un call center en Bogotá, Colombia

Objetivo: Establecer la correlación entre condiciones de iluminación, ángulo visual, discriminación de contrastes y agudeza visual en la aparición de síntomas visuales en operarios de computador. Materiales y métodos: Estudio de corte transversal y correlación en muestra de 136 trabajadores administrativos de un “call center” perteneciente a una entidad de salud en la ciudad de Bogotá, utilizando un cuestionario con el que se evaluaron las variables sociodemográficas y ocupacionales; aplicando la escala de síntomas visión – computador (CVSS17), realizando evaluación médica y midiendo iluminación y distancia operario pantalla de computador y con los datos recolectados se realizó un análisis estadístico bivariado y se estableció la correlación entre las condiciones de iluminación, ángulo visual, discriminación de contrataste y agudeza visual; frente a la aparición de síntomas visuales asociados con el uso del computador. El análisis se llevó a cabo con medidas de tendencia central y dispersión y con el coeficiente de correlación paramétrico de Pearson o no-paramétrico de Spearman, previamente se evaluó la normalidad con la prueba de Shapiro-Wilk. Las pruebas estadísticas se evaluarán a un nivel de significancia del 5% (p<0.05). Resultados: El promedio de edad de los participantes en el estudio fue de 36,3 años con un rango entre los 22 y 57 años y en donde el género predominante fue el femenino con el 79,4%. Se encontraron síntomas visuales asociados al uso de pantalla de computador del 59,6%, siendo los más frecuentes la epifora (70,6%), fotofobia (67,6%) y ardor ocular (54,4%). Se reportó una correlación inversa significativa entre niveles de iluminación y manifestación de fotofobia (p=0.02; r= 0,262). Por otra parte no se encontró correlación significativa entre los síntomas referidos con ángulo de visión y agudeza visual y discriminación de contrastes. Conclusión: Las condiciones laborales de iluminación del grupo de estudio están relacionadas con la manifestación de fotofobia, Se encontró asociación entre síntomas visuales y variables sociodemográficas, específicamente con el género, fotofobia a pantalla, fatiga visual y fotofobia
