Development of a Biometric Personal Authentication System Based on Fingerprint and Speech

Biometrics deals with the physiological and behavioral characteristics of an individual to establish identity. Fingerprint based authentication is the most advanced biometric authentication technology. The minutiae based fingerprint identification method offer reasonable identification rate. The feature minutiae map consists of about 70-100 minutia points and matching accuracy is dropping down while the size of database is growing up. Hence it is inevitable to make the size of the fingerprint feature code to be as smaller as possible so that identification may be much easier. In this research, a novel global singularity based fingerprint representation is proposed. Fingerprint baseline, which is the line between distal and intermediate phalangeal joint line in the fingerprint, is taken as the reference line. A polygon is formed with the singularities and the fingerprint baseline. The feature vectors are the polygonal angle, sides, area, type and the ridge counts in between the singularities. 100% recognition rate is achieved in this method. The method is compared with the conventional minutiae based recognition method in terms of computation time, receiver operator characteristics (ROC) and the feature vector length. Speech is a behavioural biometric modality and can be used for identification of a speaker. In this work, MFCC of text dependant speeches are computed and clustered using k-means algorithm. A backpropagation based Artificial Neural Network is trained to identify the clustered speech code. The performance of the neural network classifier is compared with the VQ based Euclidean minimum classifier. Biometric systems that use a single modality are usually affected by problems like noisy sensor data, non-universality and/or lack of distinctiveness of the biometric trait, unacceptable error rates, and spoof attacks. Multifinger feature level fusion based fingerprint recognition is developed and the performances are measured in terms of the ROC curve. Score level fusion of fingerprint and speech based recognition system is done and 100% accuracy is achieved for a considerable range of matching threshold

"Right to Personal Liberty Under the Indian Constitution - With Special Reference to Judicial Process"

The nature and extent of protection secured to personal liberty has been a subject matter of great controversy and debate. The expression "procedure established by law" as a standard of protection for personal liberty has been looked upon as highly unsatisfactory and inadequate. For, unlike the specific attributes of liberty that are separately guaranteed under Art.19, ‘personal liberty‘ as guaranteed by Art.21 does not obligate the .Legislature to comply with the requirements of justice and reasonableness as and when it enchroaches upon that right. Though the concept of ‘personal liberty‘ has received an evolutive and expansive meaning through judicial process, the standard of protection which the judicial process could secure to personal liberty through the interpretation of Art.21 has been far from satisfactory Even after four decades of judicial process in the interpretation of Art.21 the problem of evolving a just and adequate standard of protection for personal liberty in that Article continues to be 21 crucial constitutional issue, craving for a. satisfactory solution. And the present study is a humble attempt to unravel this problem and to Search for a reasonable solution.

Collection and Assets Management: One University Library’s Journey to the Future

Academic libraries worldwide have witnessed a number of trends and paradigm shifts over the last decade. It is vital for university libraries to develop a collection of high standards to satisfy academics and researchers for supporting the vision and mission of a university. The area of collection development and management is the most important part of any library. This paper reports on the problems and prospects of collection and asset management of the University Library of Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT). The insight for the paper comes from the authors’ first-hand experience supported by literature review. Detailed information regarding the purchase of books, serials, policies regarding the acquisition, and changing trends and problems were collected from the official records with the help of a structured data sheet. The study discovers the current trends in collection and asset management in CUSAT and point out the changes likely to be adopted in future.

A Study on Non Performing Assets of Public Sector Banks in India with Special Reference to State Bank of Travancore

The reforms in Indian banking sector since 1991 is deliberated mostly in terms of the significant measures that were implemented in order to develop a more vibrant, healthy, stable and efficient banking sector in India. The effect of a highly regulated banking environment on asset quality, productivity and performance of banks necessitated the reform process and resulted the incorporation of prudential norms for income recognition, asset classification and provisioning and capital adequacy norms, in line with international best practices. The improvements in asset quality and a reduction in non-performing assets were the primary objective enunciated in the reform measures. In this context, the present research critically evaluates the trend in movement of nonperforming assets of public sector banks in India during the period 2000-01 to 2011-12, thereby facilitates an evaluation of the effectiveness of NPA management in the post-millennium period. The non-performing assets is not a function of loan/advance alone, but is influenced by other bank performance indicators and also by the macroeconomic variables. In addition to explaining the trend in the movement of NPA, this research also explained the moderating and mediating role of various bank performance and macroeconomic indicators on incidence of NPA

Evolutionäres Personal- und Organisationsentwicklungssystem (EPOS)

Im Rahmen des Programms Lernkulturentwicklung hat die Arbeitsgemeinschaft berufliche Weiterbildungsforschung (ABWF) das Schulzentrum/Akademie Silberburg (AKAS) für zunächst zwei Jahre (2001-2002) gefördert, mit dem Ziel neuartige Wege zu einem umfassenden Lernkulturwandel zu erproben. Mit der Konzipierung und wiss. Begleitung wurden die Projektgruppe Zukunftsmoderation der Universität Kassel unter Leitung von Prof. Dr. Olaf-Axel Burow beauftragt. Nachfolgend geben wir einen Einblick in erste Erfahrungen mit dem Projekt und skizzieren einige Elemente unseres "Evolutionären Personal- und Organisationsentwicklungssystems" (EPOS). Schulentwicklung - so unsere These - ist dann besonders folgenreich, wenn - auf freiwilliger Basis - ein evolutionärer Prozess der integrierten Personal- und Organisationsentwicklung eingeleitet wird. Dieser Prozess muss von Lehrer/innen, Schüler/innen, der Geschäftsleitung sowie des sonstigen Personals getragen werden. Aufgabe der Berater/innen ist es, bedarfsorientiert Möglichkeitsräume und Trainingsangebote zur Verfügung zu stellen, um den evolutionären Prozess anzustoßen und zu unterstützen. Als besonders fruchtbar haben sich dabei Verfahren der prozessorientierten Zukunfsmoderation sowie des Biographischen Lernens erwiesen.

Facilitar a los alumnos de la Escuela Universitaria del Profesorado de EGB una visión actual del tema de psicomotricidad y su importancia en el desarrollo personal del niño desde distintos puntos de vista. El objeto de todo el informe es la Educación Psicomotriz como aspecto importante y necesario para el desarrollo del niño. Educación Psicomotriz como acción pedagógica y psicológica que utiliza el movimiento con el fin de normalizar o mejorar el comportamiento. Para ello divide el estudio en las siguientes partes: 1) Visión del cuerpo en el marco escolar. 2) Simbolismo del movimiento y de la acción. 3) Interés por el estudio del desarrollo motor desde la vertiente fisiológica y psicológica. 4) La psicomotricidad. Concepto. 5) La Educación Psicomotriz. 6) Las progresiones en el ámbito educativo. 7) La psicomotricidad gruesa. 8) El dominio corporal estático. 9) La motricidad fina. 10) Educación del esquema corporal. 11) La psicomotricidad en la escuela. 12) El perfil psicomotor. En cada apartado ofrece una serie de actividades a realizar así como una serie de actividades de evaluación para la coordinación óculo-manual, dinámica, equilibrio, percepción y lenguaje divididos por edades. Para terminar el autor ofrece un vocabulario y una bibliografía relacionados con el tema de interés para el profesor de EGB. Trata de estudiar la psicomotricidad no sólo en su plano motor sino como algo más que una simple función instrumental que despersonalizaría la función motora. Con el término psicomotor se destaca la participación psíquica en los movimientos expresivos, pero también en los de ejecución de un acto y dependiendo del tipo de individuo. Una vez sintetizados los puntos esenciales sostenidos por especialistas en la materia se realiza un aporte y enfoque que el autor estima que puede ser muy importante sobre todo en lo referente al control respiratorio y técnicas de relajación. Se trata de un material de referencia que puede ser de ayuda para los profesores de EGB en cuanto al tema tratado. Además de ofrecer un vocabulario y una bibliografía del tema ofrece una serie de ejercicios y actividades detalladamente explicados para cada uno de los apartados.

Influencias de la práctica deportiva y de la orientación de meta personal en las conductas antisociales de los jóvenes.

a) Comprobar si las tendencias hacia las conductas antisociales en los jóvenes subyacen en las orientaciones de meta personal, en las variables de personalidad y en el tipo de práctica deportiva; b) Consensuar que la orientación motivacional hacia la tarea es la mejor de las dos posibles; c) Promover la orientación motivacional a la tarea por su valor como condicionante para instaurar hábitos duraderos de ocio a través de la actividad física y deportiva; d) Dismitificar la idea del deporte en sí como panacea educativa. 298 adolescentes entre 14 y 16 años. Los participantes complementaron: el Cuestionario de Percepción de Éxito POSQ para evaluar la orientación de meta personal y el Cuestionario de Personalidad de Eysenk EPQ-J para la evaluación de las tres dimensiones básicas de la personalidad: neuroticismo, extraversión y psicotísmo o dureza; y además una de sinceridad y otra de conductas antisociales. a) Se presentan datos para ilustrar la pertinencia de las metas del logro en el estudio del comportamiento motivado en contextos de actividad física y deporte; b) En la Educación Física y en el deporte escolar, la orientación a la tarea resulta la dirección pedagógica conveniente; c) El deporte competitivo en edades tempranas sacrifica la orientación a la tarea y estimula la nociva y permanente comparación con otros; d) El deporte competitivo enfatiza la implicación al yo y, por tanto, incide negativamente en la motivación intrínseca de los jóvenes; e) Los resultados mostraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas tanto en las variables de personalidad como en la orientación de meta, en función del género; f) La conducta antisocial se desarrolla mayoritariamente en los adolescentes que practican deporte federado; g) Es necesario promover la orientación motivacional a la tarea por su valor como condicionante para instaurar hábitos duraderos de ocio a través de la actividad física y deportiva.

The Personal tutorial guidance sessions in the framework of the teaching-learning field of the Bologna process: University of Minho (first cycle) courses students’ perceptions

The Bologna Process defends the adoption of a higher education in teaching-learning methodologies that – in contraposition to the previous model based on the transmission of knowledge, which for being essentially theoretical, gives the student a passive role in the knowledge construction process – allows a (pro) active, autonomous and practical learning, where the student acquires and develops his competences. The personal tutorial guidance sessions are included in the teaching contact hours. This abstract presents a study about the University of Minho (first cycle) Courses Students’ perceptions of the personal tutorial guidance sessions’ relevance in the scope of the learning-teaching process, so as to confirm if the implementation/implantation of the commonly called tutorial (type) education, as an approach to an active, autonomous and practical learning, is sensed by the learners themselves
