North South Survey of Children’s Height, Weight and Body Mass Index, 2002. As part of a North South Survey of Childrenâ?Ts Oral Health conducted in Ireland in 2001/â?T02 [1], the heights and weights of a representative sample of children and adolescents age 4-16 years was measured. Data were collected by 34 teams of trained and calibrated dentists and dental nurses for 17,518 children aged 4-16 in the Republic of Ireland (RoI) and 2,099 in Northern Ireland (NI). Second Report of the Alcohol Marketing Communications Monitoring Body (2007)

In December 2005, the Minister for Health and Children set up the Alcohol Marketing Communications Monitoring Body (the Monitoring Body) to oversee the implementation of and adherence to the Voluntary Codes of Practice to limit the exposure of young people to alcohol advertising. Review of the Nursing Homes Support Scheme - Summary of Submissions

When the Nursing Homes Support Scheme, A Fair Deal, was introduced in October 2009, a commitment was made that it would be reviewed after three years. The reason for allowing this period to elapse was to ensure that the Scheme had bedded in and that established and validated trends and statistics would be available in order to inform the work. Mortality risk of obesity and underweight is overestimated with self-reported body mass index.

Obese persons (those with a body mass index [BMI] ≥30 kg/m2) tend to underestimate their weight, leading to an underestimation of their true (measured) BMI and obesity prevalence.1,2 In contrast, underweight people (BMI <18.5 kg/m2) tend to report themselves heavier, resulting in a higher BMI compared with measured BMI and an underestimation of underweight prevalence.

North South Survey of Children's Height, Weight and Body Mass Index, 2002

As part of a North South Survey of Childrens Oral Health conducted in Ireland in 2001/’02 [1], the heights and weights of a representative sample of children and adolescents age 4-16 years was measured. Data were collected by 34 teams of trained and calibrated dentists and dental nurses for 17,518 children aged 4-16 in the Republic of Ireland (RoI) and 2,099 in Northern Ireland (NI). This report presents the results of the study which provide a baseline measurement of Childrens height and weight against which future change can be measured. By comparing these data with international norms we can estimate the current prevalence of overweight and obesity among children and adolescents in Ireland.

Reproducibility and within-day variability of body fat measurements using segmental bipolar bioelectrical impedance in women

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: little is known regarding the reproducibility of body fat measuring devices; hence, we assessed the between and within-device reproducibility, and the within-day variability of body fat measurements. METHODS: body fat percentage was measured twice on seventeen female students aged between 18 and 20 with a body mass index of 21.9 ± 2.5 kg/m2 (mean ± SD) using seven bipolar bioelectrical impedance devices. Each participant was also measured each hour between 7:00 and 22:00. RESULTS: the correlation between first and second measurements was very high (Spearman r between 0.985 and 1.000, p<0.001), as well as between devices (Spearman r between 0.916 and 0.991, p<0.001). Repeated measurements analysis showed no differences were between devices (p=0.59) or readings (first vs. second: p=0.74). Conversely, significant differences were found between assessment periods throughout the day, measurements made in the morning being lower than those made in the afternoon (F test for repeated values= 6.58, p<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: the between and within-device reproducibility for measuring body fat is high, enabling the use of multiple devices in a single study. Conversely, small but significant changes in body fat measurements occur during the day, urging body fat measurements to be performed at fixed times.
