L'objectiu d'aquest article és presentar una anàlisi acurada del poema "Camma" d'O. Wilde en relació al referent grec: la Camma de l'Amatorius (Eròtic) i del Mulierum Virtutes de Plutarc. És precisament aquesta lectura la que permet comprovar com la severa i rígida ètica plutarquea és corregida des de l'hedonisme de l'esteticisme que O. Wilde professa tot convertint Camma en un símbol del plaer de viure.

Brain connectivity can be represented by a network that enables the comparison of the different patterns of structural and functional connectivity among individuals. In the literature, two levels of statistical analysis have been considered in comparing brain connectivity across groups and subjects: 1) the global comparison where a single measure that summarizes the information of each brain is used in a statistical test; 2) the local analysis where a single test is performed either for each node/connection which implies a multiplicity correction, or for each group of nodes/connections where each subset is summarized by one single test in order to reduce the number of tests to avoid a penalizing multiplicity correction. We comment on the different levels of analysis and present some methods that have been proposed at each scale. We highlight as well the possible factors that could influence the statistical results and the questions that have to be addressed in such an analysis.

Schizotypy is a multidimensional personality construct representing the extension of psychosis-like traits into the general population. Schizotypy has been associated with attenuated expressions of many of the same neuropsychological abnormalities as schizophrenia, including atypical pattern of functional hemispheric asymmetry. Unfortunately, the previous literature on links between schizotypy and hemispheric asymmetry is inconsistent with some research indicating that elevated schizotypy is associated with relative right over left hemisphere shifts, left over right hemisphere shifts, bilateral impairments, or with no hemispheric differences at all. This inconsistency may result from different methodologies, scales, and / or sex proportions between studies. In a within-participant design, we tested for the four possible links between laterality and schizotypy by comparing the relationship between two common self-report measures of multidimensional schizotypy (the O-LIFE questionnaire, and two Chapman scales, magical ideation and physical anhedonia) and performance in two computerized lateralised hemifield paradigms (lexical decision, chimeric face processing) in 80 men and 79 women. Results for the two scales and two tasks did not unequivocally support any of the four possible links. We discuss the possibilities that a link between schizotypy and laterality 1) exists, but is subtle, probably fluctuating, unable to be assessed by traditional methodologies used here; 2) does not exist, or 3) is indirect, mediated by other factors (e.g. stress-responsiveness, handedness, drug use) whose influences need further exploration.

En este artículo analizo las afinidades existentes entre la"tradición inglesa", en sus expresiones filosóficas y literarias, y la obra de Borges, quien llegó a considerarse"escritor inglés en lengua española". En la primera parte estudio la enorme simpatía filosófica y estética que Borges sentía por el pragmatismo de William James. En la segunda parte trato de mostrar que dicha simpatía no se detenía en el autor de Pragmatism sino que se extendía a toda la"tradición inglesa". Ciertamente, lo que podemos considerar las características generales de la tradición inglesa-escepticismo, nominalismo, antisistematismo, librepensamiento y un determinado sentido del humor-, forman un temperamento filosófico-literario enormemente afín al que constatamos en la obra de Jorge Luis Borges. En la tercera y última parte analizo cómo dicho"espíritu" filosófico no forma parte de una supuesta idiosincrasia nacional, concebida en términos esencialistas, sino de un determinado proceso histórico que hizo que permitió que en Inglaterra perdurasen ciertos valores del humanismo mientras que en el resto de Europa el racionalismo arramblaba con ellos. De este modo, tanto el temperamento filosófico de Borges como el de la tradición inglesa se remiten a una tradición humanística que supuso, a su vez, en el siglo XVI, el renacimiento de una milenaria tradición escéptica que había sido arrinconada por el dogmatismo de la era medieval.

The present article proposes Heathcliff and Sarah Woodruff as monstrous beings who reclaim their desire to be agent subjects in a society and a narrative which deny such a possibility. It would be possible to argue, however, that their monstrosity might be that of the unique specimen, the potential first stage towards the improvement of species through natural selection as theorized by Charles Darwin in 1859. The multiple references to Darwin’s study in the novel by JohnFowles demonstrate that such a theory could clarify what Sarah represents in the novel. In a retroactive manner, Darwinian theory might be used to understand what Heathcliff is, who Heathcliff is, and why he is the object of general animosity. It might be concluded that what is really monstrous about these twocharacters is that both are new specimens, avant la lèttre, and they occupy a space to which language has no access.

PURPOSE: To meta-analyze the literature on the clinical performance of Class V restorations to assess the factors that influence retention, marginal integrity, and marginal discoloration of cervical lesions restored with composite resins, glass-ionomer-cement-based materials [glass-ionomer cement (GIC) and resin-modified glass ionomers (RMGICs)], and polyacid-modified resin composites (PMRC). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The English literature was searched (MEDLINE and SCOPUS) for prospective clinical trials on cervical restorations with an observation period of at least 18 months. The studies had to report about retention, marginal discoloration, marginal integrity, and marginal caries and include a description of the operative technique (beveling of enamel, roughening of dentin, type of isolation). Eighty-one studies involving 185 experiments for 47 adhesives matched the inclusion criteria. The statistical analysis was carried out by using the following linear mixed model: log (-log (Y /100)) = β + α log(T ) + error with β = log(λ), where β is a summary measure of the non-linear deterioration occurring in each experiment, including a random study effect. RESULTS: On average, 12.3% of the cervical restorations were lost, 27.9% exhibited marginal discoloration, and 34.6% exhibited deterioration of marginal integrity after 5 years. The calculation of the clinical index was 17.4% of failures after 5 years and 32.3% after 8 years. A higher variability was found for retention loss and marginal discoloration. Hardly any secondary caries lesions were detected, even in the experiments with a follow-up time longer than 8 years. Restorations placed using rubber-dam in teeth whose dentin was roughened showed a statistically significantly higher retention rate than those placed in teeth with unprepared dentin or without rubber-dam (p < 0.05). However, enamel beveling had no influence on any of the examined variables. Significant differences were found between pairs of adhesive systems and also between pairs of classes of adhesive systems. One-step self-etching had a significantly worse clinically index than two-step self-etching and three-step etch-and-rinse (p = 0.026 and p = 0.002, respectively). CONCLUSION: The clinical performance is significantly influenced by the type of adhesive system and/or the adhesive class to which the system belongs. Whether the dentin/enamel is roughened or not and whether rubberdam isolation is used or not also significantly influenced the clinical performance. Composite resin restorations placed with two-step self-etching and three-step etch-and-rinse adhesive systems should be preferred over onestep self-etching adhesive systems, GIC-based materials, and PMRCs.

One of the problems with books which are relatively general in nature is that many of the individual contributions tend to be so narrow and specialised that only the author has any knowledge of (or interest in) the issues under discussion. At first sight this appears to be the case with Detecting Detection. Fortunately, however, first impressions are deceiving. Although the essays in the volume deal with writers as diverse and disparate as the Catalano-Spanish writer Juan Marse, the Bulgarian-French philosopher Julia Kristeva and the once-vaunted giant of English literature,Graham Greene, among numerous others, there is much to be enjoyed and learnt, even if some of the works under discussion are unfamiliar to the crime fiction reader and/or scholar to whom the book initially appears to be directed.

Chylous ascites is a rare clinical entity. In infancy it is less commom still. The etiology of most of them is usually congenital or idiopathic; trauma is a less frequent cause. It has been implicated in about 10% of all cases 1-5. There have been less than one hundred cases published in the English literature, including 12 in children. We report a pediatric case of chylous ascites as a result of blunt abdominal trauma managed by ligation of the lymphatic leak.

From Bildung to Civilisation. Conception of Culture in J. V. Snellman’s Historical Thinking The research explores Johan Vilhelm Snellman’s (1806–1881) conception of culture in the context of his historical thinking. Snellman was a Finnish, Swedish-speaking journalist, teacher and thinker, who held a central position in the Finnish national discourse during the nineteenth century. He has been considered as one of the leading theorists of a Finnish nation, writing widely about the themes such as the advancement of the national education, Finnish language and culture. Snellman is already a widely studied person in Finnish intellectual history, often characterised as a follower of G. W. F. Hegel’s philosophical system. My own research introduces a new kind of approach on Snellman’s texts, emphasising the conceptual level of his thought. With this approach, my aim is to broaden the Finnish research tradition on conceptual history. I consider my study as a cultural history of concepts, belonging also to the field of intellectual history. My focus is on one hand on the close reading of Snellman’s texts and on the other hand on contextualising his texts to the European intellectual tradition of the time. A key concept of Snellman’s theoretical thinking is his concept of bildning, which can be considered as a Swedish counterpart of the German concept of Bildung. The Swedish word incorporated all the main elements of the German concept. It could mean education or the so-called high culture, but most fundamentally it was about the self-formation of the individual. This is also the context in which Snellman’s concept of bildning has often been interpreted. In the study, I use the concept of bildning as a starting point of my research but I broaden my focus on the cognate concepts such as culture (kultur), spirit (anda) and civilisation. The purpose of my study is thus to illustrate how Snellman used and modified these concepts and from these observations to draw a conclusion about the nature of his conception of culture. Snellman was an early Finnish philosopher of history but also interested in the practice of the writing of history. He did not write any historical presentations himself but followed the publications in the field of history and introduced European historical writing to the Finnish, Swedish-speaking reading audience in his newspapers. The primary source material consists of different types of Snellman’s texts, including philosophical writings, lecture material, newspaper articles and private letters. I’m reading Snellman’s texts in the context of other texts produced both by his Finnish predecessors and contemporaries and by Swedish, German and French writers. Snellman’s principal philosophical works, Versuch einer spekulativen Entwicklung der Idee der Persönlichkeit (1841) and Läran om staten (1842), were both written abroad. Both of the works were contributions to contemporary debates on the international level, especially in Germany and Sweden. During the 1840s and 1850s Snellman had two newspapers of his own, Saima and Litteraturblad, which were directed towards the Swedish-speaking educated class. Both of the newspapers were very popular and their circulations were among the largest of their day in Finland. The topics of his articles and reviews covered literature, poetry, philosophy and education as well as issues concerning the economic, industrial and technical development in Finland. In his newspapers Snellman not only brought forth his own ideas but also spread the knowledge of European events and ideas to his readers. He followed very carefully the cultural and political situation in Western Europe. He also followed European magazines and newspapers and was well acquainted with German, French and also English literature – and of course Swedish literature to with which he had the closest ties. In his newspapers Snellman wrote countless number of literary reviews and critics, introducing his readers to European literature. The study consists of three main chapters in which I explore my research question in three different, yet overlapping contexts. In the first of these chapters, I analyse Snellman’n theoretical thinking and his concepts of bildning, kultur, anda and civilisation in the context of earlier cultural discourse in Finland as well as the tradition of German idealistic philosophy and neo-humanism. With the Finnish cultural discourse I refer to the early cultural discussion in Finland, which emerged after the year 1809, when Finland became an autonomous entity of its own as a Grand Duchy of Russia. Scholars of the Academy of Turku opened a discussion on the themes such as the state of national consciousness, the need for national education and the development of the Finnish language as a national language of Finland. Many of these academics were also Snellman’s teachers in the early years of his academic career and Snellman clearly formulated his own ideas in the footsteps of these Finnish predecessors. In his theoretical thinking Snellman was a collectivist; according to him an individual should always be understood in connection with the society, its values and manners, as well as to the traditions of a culture where an individual belongs to. In his philosophy of the human spirit Snellman was in many ways a Hegelian but his notion of education or ‘bildning’ includes also elements that connect him with the wider tradition of German intellectual history, namely the neo-humanist tradition and, at least to some extent, to the terminology of J. G. Herder or J. G. Fichte, for example. In this chapter, I also explore Snellman’s theory of history. In his historical thinking Snellman was an idealist, believing in the historical development of the human spirit (Geist in German language). One can characterise his theory of history by stating that it is a mixture of a Hegelian triumph of the spirit and Herderian emphasis on humanity (Humanität) and the relative nature of ‘Bildung’. For Snellman, the process of ‘bildning’ or ‘Bildung’ is being realised in historical development through the actions of human beings. Snellman believed in the historical development of the human civilization. Still Snellman himself considered that he had abandoned Hegel’s idea about the process of world history. Snellman – rightly or wrongly – criticised Hegel of emphasising the universal end of history (the realisation of the freedom of spirit) at the expense of the historical plurality and the freedom of each historical era. Snellman accused Hegel of neglecting the value and independency of different historical cultures and periods by imposing the abstract norm, the fulfilment of the freedom of spirit, as the ultimate goal of history. The historicist in Snellman believed in the individuality of each historical period; each historical era or culture had values, traditions and modes of thought of its own. This historicist in Snellman could not accept the talk about one measure or the end of history. On the other hand Snellman was also a universalist. He believed that mankind had a common task and that task was the development of ‘Bildung’, freedom or humanity. The second main chapter consists of two parts. In the first part, I explore the Finnish nationalistic discourse from the cultural point of view by analysing the notions such as a nation, national spirit or national language and showing how Snellman formulated his own ideas in a dialogic situation, participating in the Finnish discourse but also reacting to international discussions on the themes of the nation and nationality. For Snellman nationality was to a great extent the collective knowledge and customs or practices of the nation. Snellman stated that nationality is to be considered as a form of ‘bildning’. This could be seen not simply as affection for the fatherland but also for the mental identity of the nation, its ways of thinking, its practices, national language, customs and laws, the history of the nation. The simplest definition of nationality that Snellman gives is that nationality is the social life of the people. In the second part of the chapter I exam Snellman’s historical thinking and his understanding about historical development, interaction between different nations and cultures in the course of history, as well as the question of historical change; how do cultures or civilisations develop and who are the creators of culture? Snellman did not believe in one dominating culture but understood the course of history as a dialogue between different cultures. On the other hand, his views are very Eurocentric – here he follows the ideas of Hegel or for example the French historian François Guizot – for Snellman Europe represented the virtue of pluralism; in Europe one could see the diversity of cultures which, on the other hand, were fundamentally based on a common Christian tradition. In the third main chapter, my focus is on the writing of history, more precisely on Snellman’s ideas on the nature of history as a science and on the proper way of writing historical presentations. Snellman wrote critics on the works of history and introduced his readers to the writing of history especially in France, Sweden and German-speaking area – in some extend also in Britain. Snellman’s collectivistic view becomes evident also in his reviews on historical writing. For Snellman history was not about the actions of the states and their heads, nor about the records of ruling families and battles fought. He repeatedly stressed that history is a discipline that seeks to provide a total view of a phenomenon. A historian should not only collect information on historical events, since this information touches only the surface of a certain epoch or civilisation; he has to understand an epoch as totality. This required an understanding about the major contours in history, connections between civilisations and an awareness of significant turning points in historical development. In addition, it required a holistic understanding about a certain culture or historical era, including also the so-called inner life of a specific nation, a common people and their ways of life. Snellman wrote explicitly about ‘cultural history’ in his texts, referring to this kind of broad understanding of a society. In historical writing Snellman found this kind of broader view from the works of the French historians such as François Guizot and Jules Michelet. In all of these chapters, I elaborate the conceptual dimension of Snellman’s historical thinking. In my study I argue that Snellman not only adopted the German concepts of Bildung or Kultur in his own thinking but also developed the Swedish concepts in a way that include personal and innovative aspects. Snellman’s concept of bildning is not only a translation from ‘Bildung’ but he uses the Swedish concept in a versatile way that includes both the moral aspect of human development and social dimension of a human life. Along with ‘bildning’ Snellman used also the terms ‘kultur’ and ‘civilisation’ when referring to the totality of a certain nation or historical era, including both the so-called high culture (arts, science, religion) and the modes of thought as well as ways of life of the people as a whole. Unlike many of his Finnish contemporaries, Snellman did not use civilisation as a negative concept, lacking the moral essence of German term ‘Bildung’ or ‘Kultur’. Instead, for Snellman civilisation was a neutral term and here he comes close to the French tradition of using the term. In the study I argue that Snellman’s conception of culture in fact includes a synthesis of the German tradition of ‘Bildung’ and the French tradition of ‘civilisation’.

Michael Sands Hornyansky was the son of well-known artist, Nicholas Hornyansky and a cellist. He attended Oakwood Collegiate, Toronto; University College in Toronto and Merton College, Oxford where he was a Rhodes scholar. He won the Newdigate prize for poetry in 1951. Dr. Hornyansky taught English Language and Literature at Carleton University, Ottawa for 10 years before moving to Niagara in 1964. He was the founding chairman of the English Department of Brock University where he remained until his retirement in 1993. Some of his achievements include:The Golden Phoenix, a retelling of French Canadian folk tales and the publishing of papers on children’s literature and the discriminating use of the English language. He also reviewed poetry for the University of Toronto Quarterly. Michael Hornyansky died on May 14th, 2008 in Alberta at the age of 81. The annual Michael Hornyansky prize for creative writing was established at Brock University.

Le Virus Herpès Simplex de type 1 (HSV-1) est un agent infectieux qui cause l’herpès chez une grande proportion de la population mondiale. L’herpès est généralement considéré comme une maladie bénigne dont la forme la plus commune est l'herpès labial (communément appelé « bouton de fièvre »), mais elle peut se révéler très sérieuse et causer la cécité et l’encéphalite, voir létale dans certain cas. Le virus persiste toute la vie dans le corps de son hôte. Jusqu'à présent, aucun traitement ne peut éliminer le virus et aucun vaccin n’a été prouvé efficace pour contrôler l’infection herpétique. HSV-1 est un virus avec un génome d’ADN bicaténaire contenu dans une capside icosaèdrale entourée d’une enveloppe lipidique. Treize glycoprotéines virales se trouvent dans cette enveloppe et sont connues ou supposées jouer des rôles distincts dans différentes étapes du cycle de réplication viral, incluant l'attachement, l'entrée, l’assemblage, et la propagation des virus. La glycoprotéine M (gM) qui figure parmi ces glycoprotéines d’enveloppe, est la seule glycoprotéine non essentielle mais est conservée dans toute la famille herpesviridae. Récemment, l’homologue de gM dans le Pseudorabies virus (PRV), un autre herpesvirus, a été impliqué dans la phase finale de l’assemblage (i.e. l’enveloppement cytoplasmique) au niveau du réseau trans-Golgi (TGN) en reconnaissant spécifiquement des protéines tégumentaires et d’autres glycoprotéines d’enveloppe ([1]). Toutefois, il a été proposé que cette hypothèse ne s’applique pas pour le HSV-1 ([2]). De plus, contrairement à la localisation au TGN dans les cellules transfectées, HSV-1 gM se localise dans la membrane nucléaire et sur les virions périnucléaires durant une infection. L’objectif du projet présenté ici était d’éclaircir la relation de la localisation et la fonction de HSV-1 gM dans le contexte d’une infection. Dans les résultats rapportés ici, nous décrivons tout abord un mécanisme spécifique de ciblage nucléaire de HSV-1 gM. En phase précoce d’une infection, gM est ciblée à la membrane nucléaire d'une manière virus ii dépendante. Cela se produit avant la réorganisation du TGN normalement induite par l’infection et avant que gM n’entre dans la voie de sécrétion. Ce ciblage nucléaire actif et spécifique de gM ne semble pas dépendre des plusieurs des partenaires d’interaction proposés dans la littérature. Ces données suggèrent que la forme nucléaire de gM pourrait avoir un nouveau rôle indépendant de l’enveloppement final dans le cytoplasme. Dans la deuxième partie du travail présenté ici, nous avons concentré nos efforts sur le rôle de gM dans l’assemblage du virus en phase tardive de l’infection et en identifiant un domaine critique de gM. Nos résultats mettent en valeur l’importance du domaine carboxyl-terminal cytoplasmique de gM dans le transport de gM du réticulum endoplasmique (RE) à l’appareil de Golgi, dans l’enveloppement cytoplasmique et la propagation intercellulaire du virus. Ainsi, l’export du RE de gM a été complètement compromis dans les cellules transfectées exprimant un mutant de gM dépourvu de sa région C-terminale. La délétion la queue cytoplasmique de gM cause une réduction légère du titre viral et de la taille des plaques. L'analyse de ces mutants par microscopie électronique a démontré une accumulation des nucléocapsides sans enveloppe dans le cytoplasme par rapport aux virus de type sauvage. Étrangement, ce phénotype était apparent dans les cellules BHK mais absent dans les cellules 143B, suggérant que la fonction de gM dépende du type cellulaire. Finalement, le criblage de partenaires d’interaction du domaine C-terminal de gM identifiés par le système de double-hybride nous a permis de proposer plusieurs candidats susceptibles de réguler la fonction de gM dans la morphogénèse et la propagation de virus.

Cette thèse défend l’idée que plusieurs auteurs modernistes ont utilisé des concepts centraux à la croyance religieuse traditionnelle afin de préconiser le changement social. Au lieu de soutenir l'hypothèse de la sécularisation, qui prétend que les modernistes ont rejeté la religion en faveur d'une laïcité non contestée, j'argumente en faveur de ce que j'appelle « la spiritualité moderniste, » qui décrie une continuité intégrale des concepts spirituels dans l'agitation de la période moderniste qui a déstabilisée les institutions qui avait auparavant jeté les bases de la société Occidentale. En me basant sur les écrit de Sigmund Freud, William James et Émile Durkheim concernant les fins poursuivis par la religion, je développe cinq concepts centraux de la croyance religieuse que les modernistes ont cherché à resignifier, à savoir la rédemption, la communauté, la sacralité, le spectre, et la liturgie, et, dans chaque cas, j'ai montré comment ces catégories ont été réinterprétées pour traiter des questions considérées comme essentielles au début du vingtième siècle, à savoir ce que l’on identifie aujourd’hui comme le féminisme, l'écologie, la biopolitique, les crises, et le rôle du poète. Le chapitre I se concentre sur la rédemption par le féminin telle qu’on la trouve dans le recueil de vers de H.D. portant sur la Seconde Guerre mondiale, Trilogy (1944-1946), qui projette un certain espoir grâce à un mélange synchrétique de Christianisme, de mythes anciens, d’astrologie, et de psychologie. Mon deuxième chapitre discute de The Grapes of Wrath (1939) de John Steinbeck, qui élargit le rôle de la communauté en avançant une écologie universelle qui concevoit tous les gens comme étant intimement liés entre eux et avec le monde. Le chapitre III traite de la notion du sacré dans The Light in August (1932) de Willam Faulkner et Nightwood (1936) de Djuna Barnes, qui préconisent une foi privatisée qui accentue l'illégitimité des concepts de sacralité et de pollution en élevant des individus qui sont marginalisés biopolitiquement. Le chapitre IV cherche à comprendre le retour des morts, et je soutiens que le topos a été utilisé par les modernistes comme un symbole de crises sociales; le chapitre enquête d'abord sur “The Jolly Corner” (1908) de Henry James, que j'ai lu comme la séquence rêvée d'un homme faisant face à son propre spectre, Ulysses (1922) de James Joyce, où Stephen Dedalus est hanté de façon répétée par le spectre de sa mère, et Mrs. Dalloway (1925) de Virginia Woolf, qui se concentre sur le motif caché de la Fête des Morts. Ma cinquième section traite de la liturgie, la langue poétique utilisée pour les rites religieux, dans la première poésie de Wallace Stevens, qui conçoit le rôle du poète comme une vocation de l'imagination.

Cette thèse présente une exploration de l’impact que des enseignants peuvent exercer sur le développement de l’intérêt d’étudiants envers leur discipline d’enseignement. Le problème visé par l’étude était le faible niveau de maîtrise de l’orthographe des collégiens du cours de mise à niveau en français et le taux d’échec important à ce cours. Spécifiquement, l’objectif de l’étude était d’évaluer un dispositif pédagogique d’interdisciplinarité ayant pour but de stimuler le développement de l’intérêt de collégiens envers leur cours de mise à niveau en français (MNF). Le dispositif a consisté en un pairage entre un cours moins apprécié des collégiens (le cours de MNF) et un cours très populaire (un cours de psychologie de la sexualité). Ces deux cours ont donc été planifiés en construisant entre eux le plus possible de liens facilement perceptibles par les étudiants. Les écrits théoriques permettaient de croire qu’un intérêt envers le cours de MNF pourrait émerger si l’on menait, dans le cours de français, des activités d’apprentissage utilisant les notions étudiées dans le cours de psychologie. De plus, la théorie du développement de l’intérêt d’Hidi et Renninger (2006) laissait anticiper un approfondissement de cet intérêt envers la matière en général (le français) et non seulement envers le cours. Par ailleurs, la littérature du champ de la motivation scolaire permettait de s’attendre à ce que cet intérêt soit lié à une plus grande perception de l’utilité du cours de MNF de la part des étudiants, ainsi qu’à un meilleur engagement et un meilleur rendement. Pour vérifier ces hypothèses, un devis quasi-expérimental avec condition témoin et suivi longitudinal a été adopté. Le groupe expérimental (GE) était composé de 27 collégiens inscrits aux deux cours : le cours de MNF et le cours de psychologie de la sexualité. Le groupe témoin (GT) était composé de 79 collégiens inscrits au cours de MNF sans être exposés à une condition d’interdisciplinarité. L’intérêt, l’utilité, l’engagement cognitif et l’engagement comportemental ont été mesurées à l’aide d’échelles de type Likert. De plus, la prise des présences en classe par les enseignants a été utilisée comme mesure supplémentaire de l’engagement comportemental. Le rendement, représenté par la performance en orthographe, a été évalué par l’administration d’une dictée avant puis après l’intervention. Les résultats d’une analyse de multivariance (MANOVA) ont révélé un intérêt envers le cours de MNF significativement plus grand après l’intervention pour le GE, comparativement au GT, tout comme une plus grande perception de l’utilité du cours et un meilleur engagement comportemental. Concernant le rendement en orthographe, le nombre d’erreurs d’orthographe grammaticale a diminué davantage entre les deux temps de mesure pour le GE comparativement au GT. Cette différence est significative. Ces résultats suggèrent de valoriser l’interdisciplinarité dans l’enseignement au collégial.
