Simulium (Psaroniocompsa) tergospinosum new species (Diptera: Simuliidae) in siolii group from the southern part of the State of Amazonas, Brazil

The larva, pupa, male and female of Simulium tergospinosum n. sp. are described and illustrated. The adults of this new species share many characters with species in the subgenus Psaroniocompsa, where it is placed. The larva of this species bears dorsal and lateral triangular tubercles on the abdomen and multiply branched scale-like setae on the body, suggesting that it belongs to the S. siolii species group. S. tergospinosum n.sp. was collected along the Juma River, Apuí county, in the southern part of the State of Amazonas, Brazil. The Juma, a black-water river, is a tributary of the Aripuanã River in the Madeira River hydrographic basin, on the southern part of Amazonas. Females were collected biting humans along the water courses during the sampling period (in the dry season).

The adolescent with a chronic condition. Part II: healthcare provision.

The treatment and management of chronic conditions during adolescence pose specific issues that need to be appropriately handled by health professionals. In this paper, questions related to disclosure of the diagnosis, the management of adherence to therapy, the need for an interdisciplinary network approach, lifestyles' anticipatory guidance and prevention, and the transition into an adult healthcare setting are reviewed. Special areas such as the issue of life threatening diseases and the ethical aspects of the treatment of chronic conditions are also discussed.

Desarrollo de una plataforma bioinformática para la gestión de datos fenotípicos y moleculares

Este proyecto está orientado a ayudar a un grupo de investigadores del Departamento de Ciencia Animal y de los Alimentos (UAB), que se dedican a recopilar datos genómicos obtenidos en experimentos. La aplicación constará de dos partes. La primera es la parte de los usuarios, donde se podrá crear proyectos, insertar, modificar o eliminar datos y consultar la información ya existente en la aplicación. La segunda parte es la del administrador, que como tal podrá dar de alta a nuevos usuarios, restaurar versiones anteriores de la base de datos, eliminar usuarios y consultar las acciones realizadas por los usuarios.

Report of the Consultation on the Health Act, 2004 (Part 9) - Complaints

Part 9 of the Health Act 2004 makes provision for the introduction of a statutory complaints system within the HSE. The purpose of this Department of Health and Children Consultation is to establish a shared understanding of the requirements and priorities attaching to this particular part of the Act as well as providing an opportunity for those experienced in complaints handling to contribute to and inform the Regulations which will specify how the HSE will establish a statutory framework for dealing with complaints received under Part 9 of the Health Act, 2004. Text2Emotion: un gestor d'experiències SOA : extracció d'emocions per al suport a la gestió de relació amb clients

Customer Experience Management (CEM) se ha convertido en un factor clave para el éxito de las empresas. CEM gestiona todas las experiencias que un cliente tiene con un proveedor de servicios o productos. Es muy importante saber como se siente un cliente en cada contacto y entonces poder sugerir automáticamente la próxima tarea a realizar, simplificando tareas realizadas por personas. En este proyecto se desarrolla una solución para evaluar experiencias. Primero se crean servicios web que clasifican experiencias en estados emocionales dependiendo del nivel de satisfacción, interés, … Esto es realizado a través de minería de textos. Se procesa y clasifica información no estructurada (documentos de texto) que representan o describen las experiencias. Se utilizan métodos de aprendizaje supervisado. Esta parte es desarrollada con una arquitectura orientada a servicios (SOA) para asegurar el uso de estándares y que los servicios sean accesibles por cualquier aplicación. Estos servicios son desplegados en un servidor de aplicaciones. En la segunda parte se desarrolla dos aplicaciones basadas en casos reales. En esta fase Cloud computing es clave. Se utiliza una plataforma de desarrollo en línea para crear toda la aplicación incluyendo tablas, objetos, lógica de negocio e interfaces de usuario. Finalmente los servicios de clasificación son integrados a la plataforma asegurando que las experiencias son evaluadas y que las tareas de seguimiento son automáticamente creadas.

Detection of fingermarks by colloidal gold (MMD/SMD): beyond the pH 3 limit

This work is part of a continuing goal to improve the multimetal deposition technique (MMD), as well as the single-metal deposition (SMD), to make them more robust, more user-friendly, and less labour-intensive. Indeed, two major limitations of the MMD/SMD were identified: (1) the synthesis of colloidal gold, which is quite labour-intensive, and (2) the sharp decrease in efficiency observed when the pH of the working solution is increased above pH 3. About the synthesis protocol, it has been simplified so that there is no more need to monitor the temperature during the synthesis. The efficiency has also been improved by adding aspartic acid, conjointly with sodium citrate, during the synthesis of colloidal gold. This extends the range of pH for which it is possible to detect fingermarks in the frame of the MMD/SMD. The operational range is now extended from 2 to 6.7, compared to 2-3 for the previous formulations. The increased robustness of the working solution may improve the ability of the technique to process substrates that tend to increase the pH of the solution after their immersion.

Memòria metodològica de treball plantejada per a l'elaboració del projecte Alfabetització informacional : disseny d'estratègies, de serveis i recursos per a la fidelització d'usuaris de la biblioteca universitària

El treball se centra en l'anàlisi de les causes de la baixa participació en les sessions de formació d'usuaris per part dels estudiants, professors i investigadors universitaris de la Biblioteca de Física i Química de la Universitat de Barcelona. Es remarca la importància d'aquesta formació en la cerca, selecció i difusió de la informació així com la inclusió d'un programa d'alfabetització informacional. Es presenten possibles solucions i propostes per tal d'augmentar aquesta assistència (major difusió, publicitat...), amortitzar els recursos i serveis que preparen els bibliotecaris i en definitiva fidelitzar aquests usuaris.
