Three pairs of Upper Cretaceous black shales and adjacent green claystones from Hole 530A were analyzed to compare types and amounts of organic matter and lipids and to seek information about their environments of deposition. The organic-carbon-rich black shales have C/N ratios nearly seven times those of the organic-carbon-lean green claystones. The lipid content of organic matter in the black shales is about ten times less than in adjacent green layers. Organic matter in both types of rocks is thermally immature, and distributions of alkanoic acids, alkanols, sterols, and alkanes contain large amounts of terrigenous components. Pristane/phytane ratios of less than one suggest that younger Turonian sediments were laid down under anoxic conditions, but ratios greater than one suggest that older Turonian Cenomanian deposits accumulated in a more oxic environment. Closely bedded green and black layers have very similar types of lipid distributions and differ primarily in concentrations, although black shales contain somewhat larger amounts of terrigenous lipid components. Geochemical and stratigraphic evidence suggests much of the organic matter in these samples originated on the African continental margin and was transported to the Angola Basin by turbidity flow. Rapid reburial of organic-carbon-rich sediments led to formation of the black shales.

Dataset containing macrobenthos data for samples collected during April 2008 in the North-West Black Sea (between 44°46' - 43°45' N latitude and 30° 11' - 29°35' E longitude). Macrobenthos sampling was done in 4 stations using a 0.14 m**2 Van Veen grab. Washing of the sample through two sieves - 1 mm and 0.25 mm mesh size; the material retained by the two sieves was examined at the binocular microscope; all animals were extracted, using fine tweezers and the species or group of species were identified and counted (in order to determine the density of populations); the larger organisms were measured and weighed (structure and biomass); for smaller organisms, the average wet weights inscribed in standard tables were used to calculate the biomass. Taxonomic identification was done at the GeoEcoMar by A. Teaca and T. Begun using the relevant taxonomic literature (Key-book for the identification of the Black Sea and Sea of Azov Fauna, 1968 -1972, Kiev - in Russian, V 1-4; BACESCU, M.C., MÜLLER, G. This layer is a georeferenced raster image of the historic paper map entitled: Carte réduite de la mer Méditerranée et de la mer Noire : dédiée et présentée a S.A.R. M. le duc d'Angoulême..., par P. Lapie, géographe, Directeur du Cabinet topographique du Roi ; gravé par P.A.F. Tardieu. It was published by Rey et Gravier, libraires Quai des Augustins, no. 55 in 1814. Scale [ca. 1:35,500]. Covers Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea, and coasts of Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. Map in French. The image inside the map neatline is georeferenced to the surface of the earth and fit to the World Miller Cylindrical projected coordinate system. All map collar and inset information is also available as part of the raster image, including any inset maps, profiles, statistical tables, directories, text, illustrations, index maps, legends, or other information associated with the principal map. This map shows features such as drainage, cities and other human settlements, shoreline features, and more. Relief shown pictorially. Depths shown by soundings. Includes also inset map of the Sea of Azov. This layer is part of a selection of digitally scanned and georeferenced historic maps from the Harvard Map Collection. These maps typically portray both natural and manmade features. The selection represents a range of originators, ground condition dates, scales, and map purposes.

Results of heat-flow measurements in the western Black Sea and within the African-Sicilian region of the Mediterranean Sea are presented. New data reveal a well-defined correlation with the deep-seated geologic structure of the regions examined. A heat-flow anomaly within the Pantelleria graben, in the authors' opinion, is a consequence of connective heat transfer along channels of disjunctive faults.

Public Act 93-0229, enacted into law on July 22, 2003, requires that, "within 120 days after the conclusion of each fiscal year, each State-supported institution of higher learning must provide, through the Illinois Board of Higher Education, a financial report to the Governor and General Assembly documenting the institution's revenues and expenditures of funds for that fiscal year ending June 30 for all funds." This is the first such report required under the Act, and it includes revenue and expenditure information for fiscal year 2003 (July 1, 2002 - June 30, 2003). This report includes a brief narrative with several detailed data tables on public university revenues and expenditures attached as appendices.
