This paper presents the development of a knowledge-based system (KBS) prototype able to design natural gas cogeneration plants, demonstrating new features for this field. The design of such power plants represents a synthesis problem, subject to thermodynamic constraints that include the location and sizing of components. The project was developed in partnership with the major Brazilian gas and oil company, and involved interaction with an external consultant as well as an interdisciplinary team. The paper focuses on validation and lessons learned, concentrating on important aspects such as the generation of alternative configuration schemes, breadth of each scheme description created by the system, and its module to support economic feasibility analysis. Constant social, cultural and political changes influence directly people’s life and define their needs and tastes. Trends have the role of signaling through these facts people’s preferences regarding to objects and can, therefore be connected with great design, as it works with project that is a planning activity for future. In this context, this study aimed to characterize trend jobs in Brazilians home designing methodology. For both: theoretical aspects were studied that led to reasoning, a field research in five Furniture industries Pole of Arapongas/PR was done, and a research for possible developmental reference of furniture in Brazil. Results indicated: misused and mistaken concepts of trend and ignorance on how they operate lack of knowledge about industries sector consumer profile, the concern about sales and not with consumer as “furniture user” and finally, the existence of Brazilian referential sources, but the lack of skilled professionals that could decode these sources.

Identify the needs of different target audiences and solve them with the application of principles and elements of design in fashion products, the objectives of the project were "from a doctor and crazy, everyone has a few" from the academics of Fashion Design UNIPAR / Cianorte. To Avoid clichés, educate the community and yourself about OCD´s, syndromes, phobias and quirks, maximized the positive balance of the project.

The appropriate use of computer aided technologies, allied to the concepts and design guidelines, grounded in biology, stimulated the development of a solar toilet, able to convert human waste into compost, rich in nutrients for use in gardens, farms and small farms. This transdisciplinary approach is presented as a necessary tool to be used in academia, integrating and developing activities previously disconnected. The solar toilet also called green bathroom, combines the most modern concepts and technologies of computer-aided design, design, selection of materials and microbiological control, reaching biologically correct and safe composting of waste, ensuring the viability of the project terms of cost, deployment, use and environmental safety, such as supporting sustainable development. It is also planned to install a pilot project in a small community with the aim of assessing its implementation and use as a complementary activity and university extension.

There are at least three different visions about origins of design; the most diffused is the idea that design begins with the Industrial Revolution. Some see the design as heir of a special kind of crafts at Revolution’s eve, because it already have a former project and work division. Less diffused is the idea that there aren’t much significant differences between design and crafts, giving to design some millenniums of history. But, being the designer heir of this millenary tradition isn’t time to reconciliate it again with crafts? Shouldn’t we return to defend the rescue of concepts of project before the modernism?

Senhor Magazine’s editorial project was used as basis for several scientific studies as its content represents a turning point to national culture and it marks the decade of 1960 as one of the most significant projects of graphic design in Brazil. The present paper aims to analyze the illustration’s significance to the development of Brazilian’s editorial design and its object of study is Senhor Magazine due to the relevant connection between design and illustration. Therefore, a literature research addressing the history of editorial design in Brazil, as well as the influence of illustration in these projects was conducted. It was concluded that illustration was crucial for editorial design evolution in Brazil, and this relationship has been established since the early twentieth century. Therefore, only in the sixties it was accepted, and Senhor Magazine has become the biggest representation of this period.

This paper presents part of the results of a post-doctoral research project which is called "Hypermedia Design involved with the User Experience". The discussion will be undertaken in this article assumes that the use of a hypermedia environment facing the field of Design can facilitate the process of teaching and learning in an undergraduate degree in Design. The theme that guides the paper of the following question: if the education and training in design does not allow access, involvement and knowledge of the technologies in its primary base that practitioners and researchers are forming for the near future? For both this study focuses on the use of a digital environment by reporting of an experiment of using hypermedia digital book "Design, Education and Technology" as a teaching tool in undergraduate courses in design, results and notes on issues involving interactivity and user experience. The methodology has a qualitative bias, developed along the lines of exploratory research in the form of a case study, lectures, and workshops for the dynamic observation, a questionnaire and analysis of results were applied

The use of bamboo as construction and raw material for producing products can be considered a feasible alternative to the abusive use of steel, concrete and oil byproducts. Its use can also reduce the pressure on the use of wood from native and planted forests. Although there are thousands of bamboo species spread about the world and Brazil itself has hundreds of native species, the use and basic knowledge of its characteristics and applications are still little known and little disseminated. This paper's main objective is to introduce the species, the management phases, the physical and mechanical characteristics and the experiences in using bamboo in design and civil construction as per the Bamboo Project implemented at UNESP, Bauru campus since 1994. The results are divided into: a) Field activities - description of the technological species of interest, production chain flows, types of preservative treatments and clump management practices for the development, adaptation and production of different species of culms; b) Lab experiments - physical and mechanical characterization of culms processed as laminated strips and as composite material (glue laminated bamboo – glubam); c) Uses in projects - experiences with natural bamboo and glubam in design, architecture and civil construction projects. In the final remarks, the study aims to demonstrate, through practical and laboratory results, the material's multi-functionality and the feasibility in using bamboo as a sustainable material.
