This work aims to identify the rootmetaphor of John Deweys philosophical and educational discourse, by means of rhetorical analyses parameters. This methodology is founded in Aristotle and in the works of Cham Perelman and other contemporary authors involved in the revision of Aristotelian philosophy. The article examines the essays The philosophical work of Herbert Spencer and The influence of darwinism on philosophy, published by John Dewey respectively in 1904 e 1909. They were written in the early years of Dewey in Columbia University, which intellectual environment was not dominated by Pragmatism, and for this reason they can be considered seminal in the structuring of the authors arguments. The analysis reveals that Dewey is favorable to Darwinian evolutionism thesis and opposite to Spencers one. This positioning suggests that Deweys discourse is bound to the metaphor undetermined route because it situates evolution as a process devoid of previously listed purposes at a pre-determined plan, subject only to the relations that are established, so unpredictable, between organisms and the environmental conditions that surround. Analyzing Deweys ideas about education, the article concludes that undetermined route is the rootmetaphor of Deweys discourse, hypothesis that can contribute to discuss Dewey in the context of contemporary philosophy.

The passion, understood by Aristotle, as a contingency which causes a change in the essence of the subject, was object of research of the Greek philosopher as rhetorical strategy used by the speaker to touch its listeners. The greimasian semiotics, enlarging the concept of Aristotles passion, understands it as the soul states of a subject that can be gathered form the analysis of a text. Reflections towards the passion discursivization and its persuasion effects in advertisements lead us to establish the relationships between passion, myth and ways of life.

This research aims to elucidate some of the historical aspects of the idea of infinity during the creation of calculus and set theory. It also seeks to raise discussions about the nature of infinity: current infinite and potential infinite. For this, we conducted a survey with a qualitative approach in the form of exploratory study. This study was based on books of Mathematics' History and other scientific works such as articles, theses and dissertations on the subject. This work will bring the view of some philosophers and thinkers about the infinite, such as: Pythagoras, Plato, Aristotle, Galilei, Augustine, Cantor. The research will be presented according to chronological order. The objective of the research is to understand the infinite from ancient Greece with the paradoxes of Zeno, during the time which the conflict between the conceptions atomistic and continuity were dominant, and in this context that Zeno launches its paradoxes which contradict much a concept as another, until the theory Cantor set, bringing some paradoxes related to this theory, namely paradox of Russell and Hilbert's paradox. The study also presents these paradoxes mentioned under the mathematical point of view and the light of calculus and set theory

The enzyme chitinase from Moniliophthora perniciosa the causative agent of the witches' broom disease in Theobroma cacao, was partially purified with ammonium sulfate and filtration by Sephacryl S-200 using sodium phosphate as an extraction buffer. Response surface methodology (RSM) was used to determine the optimum pH and temperature conditions. Four different isoenzymes were obtained: ChitMp I, ChitMp II, ChitMp III and ChitMp IV. ChitMp I had an optimum temperature at 44-73C and an optimum pH at 7.0-8.4. ChitMp II had an optimum temperature at 45-73C and an optimum pH at 7.0-8.4. ChitMp III had an optimum temperature at 54-67C and an optimum pH at 7.3-8.8. ChitMp IV had an optimum temperature at 60C and an optimum pH at 7.0. For the computational biology, the primary sequence was determined in silico from the database of the Genome/Proteome Project of M. perniciosa, yielding a sequence with 564 bp and 188 amino acids that was used for the three-dimensional design in a comparative modeling methodology. The generated models were submitted to validation using Procheck 3.0 and ANOLEA. The model proposed for the chitinase was subjected to a dynamic analysis over a 1 ns interval, resulting in a model with 91.7% of the residues occupying favorable places on the Ramachandran plot and an RMS of 2.68.
