Media, as contemporary information and communication phenomena, are rarely studied in the field of Information Science field (IS). This article aims to present a reflection on the Media role as information environments that provoke changes in the ecosystem of message creation, information and socially shared knowledge. It points out that the contextualization of informational situations in the media environments facilitates access to information and to knowledge creation, strategically aimed to more efficient mediation possibilities - purpose to be reached by the society and by an entrepreneurial Information Science. IS counts on proper strategies and methodologies for the creation of transversal meta fields of new knowledge for the solution of problems caused by the intersections and social frictions among science, technologies and knowledge, which means an effective contribution of IS to the enhance utilization of media potential.

In this article we present a theoretical study on possible intersections between MathematicalModeling and Projects regarding mathematics classes. Thus, we report a brief historical perspectiveon the use of Projects within the educational context. We also present a variety of conceptionsand meanings of the words Projects and Modeling. We found that, regarding the conception ofModeling assumed, there are intersections with the elements that form the idea of Projects. Theliterature then shows that essential aspects for the development of a Project are present when oneworks with Modeling. At this intersection, Modeling Projects can be elaborated.

The article discusses support foundations for public universities starting from the effects of State reform on Brazilian higher education in the 1990s. Based on Max Weber’s Comprehensive Sociology and on bibliographical and documentary research, it socio-historically circumscribes the management model of State administration and the concept of foundation. As one identifies the intersections between the guidelines of support foundations and the purposes of managerial administration, one understands the significance of such institutions for university management and the tendency towards commodification of Brazilian higher education.

In the outline of communication epistemology, the article discusses the fluid and complex delimitations of the field of social communication and its intersections with the world of aesthetics. It includes the question of aesthetic experience and its presence in the epistemological debates on communication in Brazil. It tries to identify possible contributions of the phenomenology of aesthetic experience, based upon the teachings of Mikel Dufrenne and the theoretical references proposed by John Dewey, Paul Valéry, Luigi Pareyson and Jacques Rancière, to the studies on communication. To contextualize the articulations between communication and aesthetics in the debates developed in the Working Group on Communication Epistemology, the article briefly explores the works that discussed that intersection over the last ten years.

Background: The anomalous experiences are often an explanatory challenge for psychiatry and psychology about how and why they occur, in addition to signaling gaps in knowledge about human psychological functioning, as hallucinations in non-clinical populations. Objective: It aims to investigate possible psychopathological dimensions of Brazilian samples of persons who claim distinctively contemporary anomalous experiences. Methods: It was used the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview, detailed version (MINI PLUS) and the nine diagnostic criteria for the distinction between spiritual experiences and mental disorders with religious content developed by Menezes Junior and Moreira-Almeida. Results: There was evidence that the experiences are typically healthy, although there are indicators of pre-morbid characteristics in the childhood and adolescence of the protagonists of the more complex experiments. There is profitable intersections with healthy squizotype profile, which is still poorly understood. Discussion: The absence of formal mental disorders does not exhaust the possible relations between contemporary anomalous experiences and the mental health field, but reveals complexities that characterize the everyday culture. A remarkable cervid bone accumulation occurs at a single passage (named Cervid Passage; CP) at Lapa Nova, a maze cave in eastern Brazil. CP lies away from cave entrances, is a typical pitfall passage and contains bone remains of at least 121 cervids, besides few bats, peccaries and rodents remains. There is no evidence of water (or sediment) flow at the site and in general bones lack post depositional alterations and display anatomical proximity, suggesting that the majority of the remains found inside CP (mainly cervids) are due to animals that after entering the cave got trapped in the site. Observations suggest that two entrances could have provided access to cervids (and the few other animals, besides bats), either by falling inside the cave or by entering by their own free will. Once inside the cave, the maze pattern would make route finding difficult, and of all passage intersections, only the one leading to CP would result in a non-return situation, starving the animal to death. Radiocarbon dates suggest that animal entrapment occurred during at least 5 thousand years, during the Holocene. The reasons why mainly cervids were found are unknown but they are probably related to the biology of this group coupled with the fact that caves provide several specific taphonomic processes that may account for a strong bias in bone accumulation. Indeed, the frequent occurrence of Cervidae in both the fossil and sub-fossil record in Brazilian caves may be related to an overall high faunal abundance or may suggest that these animals were especially prone to enter caves, perhaps in search of nutrients (as cave saltpetre) or water.

Context. Convergent point (CP) search methods are important tools for studying the kinematic properties of open clusters and young associations whose members share the same spatial motion. Aims. We present a new CP search strategy based on proper motion data. We test the new algorithm on synthetic data and compare it with previous versions of the CP search method. As an illustration and validation of the new method we also present an application to the Hyades open cluster and a comparison with independent results. Methods. The new algorithm rests on the idea of representing the stellar proper motions by great circles over the celestial sphere and visualizing their intersections as the CP of the moving group. The new strategy combines a maximum-likelihood analysis for simultaneously determining the CP and selecting the most likely group members and a minimization procedure that returns a refined CP position and its uncertainties. The method allows one to correct for internal motions within the group and takes into account that the stars in the group lie at different distances. Results. Based on Monte Carlo simulations, we find that the new CP search method in many cases returns a more precise solution than its previous versions. The new method is able to find and eliminate more field stars in the sample and is not biased towards distant stars. The CP solution for the Hyades open cluster is in excellent agreement with previous determinations.

The topographical character of conical intersections (CIs)-either sloped or peaked-has played a fundamental and important role in the discussion of the efficiency of CIs as photochemical "funnels." Here this perspective is employed in connection with a recent study of a model protonated Schiff base (PSB) cis to trans photoisomerization in solution [Malhado et al., J. Phys. Chem. A 115, 3720 (2011)]. In that study, the calculated reduced photochemical quantum yield for the successful production of trans product versus cis reactant in acetonitrile solvent compared to water was interpreted in terms of a dynamical solvent effect related to the dominance, for the acetonitrile case, of S-1 to S-0 nonadiabatic transitions prior to the reaching the seam of CIs. The solvent influence on the quantum yield is here re-examined in the sloped/peaked CI topographical perspective via conversion of the model's two PSB internal coordinates and a nonequilibrium solvent coordinate into an effective branching space description, which is then used to re-analyze the generalized Langevin equation/surface hopping results. My project explores and compares different forms of gender performance in contemporary art and visual culture according to a perspective centered on photography. Thanks to its attesting power this medium can work as a ready-made. In fact during the 20th century it played a key role in the cultural emancipation of the body which (using a Michel Foucault’s expression) has now become «the zero point of the world». Through performance the body proves to be a living material of expression and communication while photography ensures the recording of any ephemeral event that happens in time and space. My questioning approach considers the gender constructed imagery from the 1990s to the present in order to investigate how photography’s strong aura of realism promotes and allows fantasies of transformation. The contemporary fascination with gender (especially for art and fashion) represents a crucial issue in the global context of postmodernity and is manifested in a variety of visual media, from photography to video and film. Moreover the internet along with its digital transmission of images has deeply affected our world (from culture to everyday life) leading to a postmodern preference for performativity over the more traditional and linear forms of narrativity. As a consequence individual borders get redefined by the skin itself which (dissected through instant vision) turns into a ductile material of mutation and hybridation in the service of identity. My critical assumptions are taken from the most relevant changes occurred in philosophy during the last two decades as a result of the contributions by Jacques Lacan, Michel Foucault, Jacques Derrida, Gilles Deleuze who developed a cross-disciplinary and comparative approach to interpret the crisis of modernity. They have profoundly influenced feminist studies so that the category of gender has been reassessed in contrast with sex (as a biological connotation) and in relation to history, culture, society. The ideal starting point of my research is the year 1990. I chose it as the approximate historical moment when the intersection of race, class and gender were placed at the forefront of international artistic production concerned with identity, diversity and globalization. Such issues had been explored throughout the 1970s but it was only from the mid-1980s onward that they began to be articulated more consistently. Published in 1990, the book "Gender trouble: feminism and the subversion of identity" by Judith Butler marked an important breakthrough by linking gender to performance as well as investigating the intricate connections between theory and practice, embodiment and representation. It inspired subsequent research in a variety of disciplines, art history included. In the same year Teresa de Lauretis launched the definition of queer theory to challenge the academic perspective in gay and lesbian studies. In the meantime the rise of Third Wave Feminism in the US introduced a racially and sexually inclusive vision over the global situation in order to reflect on subjectivity, new technologies and popular culture in connection with gender representation. These conceptual tools have enabled prolific readings of contemporary cultural production whether fine arts or mass media. After discussing the appropriate framework of my project and taking into account the postmodern globalization of the visual, I have turned to photography to map gender representation both in art and in fashion. Therefore I have been creating an archive of images around specific topics. I decided to include fashion photography because in the 1990s this genre moved away from the paradigm of an idealized and classical beauty toward a new vernacular allied with lifestyles, art practices, pop and youth culture; as one might expect the dominant narrative modes in fashion photography are now mainly influenced by cinema and snapshot. These strategies originate story lines and interrupted narratives using models’ performance to convey a particular imagery where identity issues emerge as an essential part of fashion spectacle. Focusing on the intersections of gender identities with socially and culturally produced identities, my approach intends to underline how the fashion world has turned to current trends in art photography and in some case turned to the artists themselves. The growing fluidity of the categories that distinguish art from fashion photography represents a particularly fruitful moment of visual exchange. Varying over time the dialogue between these two fields has always been vital; nowadays it can be studied as a result of this close relationship between contemporary art world and consumer culture. Due to the saturation of postmodern imagery the feedback between art and fashion has become much more immediate and then increasingly significant for anyone who wants to investigate the construction of gender identity through performance. In addition to that a lot of magazines founded in the 1990s bridged the worlds of art and fashion because some of their designers and even editors were art-school graduates encouraging innovation. The inclusion of art within such magazines aimed at validating them as a form of art in themselves supporting a dynamic intersection for music, fashion, design and youth culture: an intersection that also contributed to create and spread different gender stereotypes. This general interest in fashion produced many exhibitions of and about fashion itself at major international venues such as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. Since then this celebrated success of fashion has been regarded as a typical element of postmodern culture. Owing to that I have also based my analysis on some important exhibitions dealing with gender performance like "Féminin-Masculin" at the Centre Pompidou of Paris (1995), "Rrose is a Rrose is a Rrose. Gender performance in photography" at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum of New York (1997), "Global Feminisms" at the Brooklyn Museum (2007), "Female Trouble" at the Pinakothek der Moderne in München together with the workshops dedicated to "Performance: gender and identity" in June 2005 at the Tate Modern of London. Since 2003 in Italy we have had Gender Bender - an international festival held annually in Bologna - to explore the gender imagery stemming from contemporary culture. In few days this festival offers a series of events ranging from visual arts, performance, cinema, literature to conferences and music. Being aware that any method of research is neither race nor gender neutral I have traced these critical paths to question gender identity in a multicultural perspective taking account of the political implications too. In fact, if visibility may be equated with exposure, we can also read these images as points of intersection of visibility with social power. Since gender assignations rely so heavily on the visual, the postmodern dismantling of gender certainty through performance has wide-ranging effects that need to be analyzed. In some sense this practice can even contest the dominance of visual within postmodernism. My visual map in contemporary art and fashion photography includes artists like Nan Goldin, Cindy Sherman, Hellen van Meene, Rineke Dijkstra, Ed Templeton, Ryan McGinley, Anne Daems, Miwa Yanagi, Tracey Moffat, Catherine Opie, Tomoko Sawada, Vanessa Beecroft, Yasumasa Morimura, Collier Schorr among others.

Ausgehend von der Entdeckung der reversiblen Strukturierung mittels Rastersondenmethoden im Phasensystem Na2O/V2O5/P2O5 wurden im Rahmen dieser Arbeit zwei Ansatzpunkte verfolgt. Einerseits sollten mittels der Schmelzflußelektrolyse einige bereits existierende niederdimensionale Molybdänbronzen mit bekannten elektronischen Übergängen in ausreichend großen Kristallen gezüchtet werden, um sie auf ihre Strukturierungseigenschaften hin zu untersuchen. Gleichzeitig sollte durch Variation versucht werden, neue, bisher unbekannte Bronzen oder reduzierte Oxide zu synthetisieren und charakterisieren. Der zweite Schwerpunkt dieser Arbeit lag in der Synthese und Charakterisierung von Oxidchalkogeniden, bestehend aus einem Seltenerdmetall und einem 3d-Metall von Titan bis hin zu den mittleren Übergangsmetallen. Diese Verbindungen können durch die Kombination der jeweiligen Eigenschaften der oxidischen und chalkogeniden Teilstrukturen völlig neue elektronische und/oder magnetische Eigenschaften aufweisen. Mögliche auftretende Phasenübergänge sind wiederum für Strukturierungsversuche interessant. Die zu den Oxidchalkogeniden durchgeführten Untersuchungen ergaben im Phasensystem Ln/Ti/S/O (Ln = Lanthanoide) insgesamt sechs Verbindungen. Zwei von ihnen, La8Ti9S24O4 und Nd20Ti11S44O6, besitzen als gemeinsames Strukturelement tetranukleare [Ti4(u4-S)2(u2-O)4]-Cluster, bestehend aus vier miteinander über gemeinsame Flächen kondensierte TiS4O2-Oktaeder. Die Titanpositionen innerhalb der Cluster sind mit Ti+3-Ionen besetzt. Beide Verbindungen weisen in einem Temperaturbereich zwischen 150 K und 250 K eine deutlich ausgeprägte Hysterese der magnetischen Suszeptibilität auf, die sich im Falle von La8Ti9S24O4 auf einen Jahn-Teller-Übergang zurückführen läßt. Daneben konnte erstmals eine Serie oxidisch/sulfidisch gemischter Ruddlesden-Popper-Verbindungen mit Ln2Ti2S2O5 (Ln = Pr, Nd, Sm) synthetisiert und charakterisiert werden. Titan liegt als vierwertiges Ion in aus TiSO5-Oktaedern gebildeten Perowskit-Doppelschichten vor. Die neunfach koordinierten Positionen sind mit den Seltenerdmetallionen gefüllt, die zwölffach koordinierten Lagen sind unbesetzt. Bei dem sechsten erhaltene Titanoxidsulfid, La4TiS6.5O1.5, handelt es sich um einen Halbleiter mit einer Bandlücke von etwa 2 eV. Weiterhin gelang es, die Serie Ln2M3S2O8 (Ln = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm; M = Nb, Ta) zu synthetisieren und in ihren physikalischen Eigenschaften zu charakterisieren. Es handelt sich ausnahmslos um Halbleiter mit Bandlücken zwischen E=0.125 eV für La2Nb3S2O8 und E=0.222 eV für Pr2Ta3S2O8. Die Struktur der Oxidsulfide Ce2Ta3S2O8, Pr2Ta3S2O8, Nd2Nb3S2O8 sowie Sm2Ta3S2O8 weist im Gegensatz zu den anderen Verbindungen eine Fehlordnung eines der beiden kristallographisch unabhängigen Nb- bzw. Ta-Atome auf. Daraus resultiert eine Symmetrieerniedrigung von Pnma zu Pbam. Der Einsatz von Europium führte zu einer neuen Modifikation des bronzoiden Oxids EuTa2O6, in der das Europium als Eu+2 vorliegt, wie 151Eu-Mößbauer-Untersuchungen bestätigten. Vor der Durchführung der Kristallzüchtungen mittels der Schmelzflußelektrolysen mußten die benutzen Öfen und Elektrolysezellen geplant und angefertigt werden. Es konnten dann verschiedene blaue, rote und violette Moybdänbronzen (sowie La2Mo2O7) in Kristallen bis zu 25 mm Länge dargestellt werden. Ferner gelang die erste exakte Einkristalluntersuchung der roten Bronze Rb0.33MoO3. Sie verfügt über die höchste d-Elektronen-Lokalisierungsrate aller bekannten roten Bronzen. Die erhaltenen Bronzen wurden teilweise von der Arbeitsgruppe Fuchs, Physikalisches Institut der Westfälischen Wilhelms-Universität Münster, auf ihre Nanostrukturierbarkeit hin untersucht. Dabei ergaben sich zwei verschiedene Strukturierungsmechanismen. Sind es im Fall der blauen Alkalimetall-Molybdänbronzen ausschließlich Lochstrukturen, die entstehen, handelt es sich bei La2Mo2O7 um Hügelstrukturen. Mittels der Schmelzflußelektrolyse konnte auch das gemischtvalente Alkalimetall-Eisenmolybdat NaFe2(MoO4)3 synthetisiert werden. Daneben gelang die Synthese dreier weiterer Alkalimetall-Eisenmolybdate: Cs2Fe2(MoO4)3, NaFe4(MoO4)5 und CsFe5(MoO4)7. Bis auf Cs2Fe2(MoO4)3, welches in der bekannten Langbeinit-Struktur kristallisiert, handelt es sich bei den übrigen Alkalimetall-Eisenmolybdaten um völlig neuartige Käfigverbindungen, bzw. bei CsFe5(MoO4)7 um eine Tunnelverbindung. Die Kristallstrukturen beinhalten kondensierte FeO6-Oktaeder. Im Fall von NaFe2(MoO4)3 lassen sich [Fe2O10]-Einheiten, für NaFe4(MoO4)5 [Fe2O10]- sowie [Fe3O14]-Einheiten, und für CsFe5(MoO4)7 [Fe4O18]-Baueinheiten beobachten. Die Positionen der Fe+2- und Fe+3-Atome in NaFe4(MoO4)5 wurden mit Hilfe einer 57Fe-Mößbauer-Untersuchung bestimmt.

In this thesis foliation boudinage and related structures have been studied based on field observations and numerical modeling. Foliation boudinage occurs in foliated rocks independent of lithology contrast. The developing structures are called ‘Foliation boudinage structures (FBSs)’ and show evidence for both ductile and brittle deformation. They are recognized in rocks by perturbations in monotonous foliation adjacent to a central discontinuity, mostly filled with vein material. Foliation boudinage structures have been studied in the Çine Massif in SW-Turkey and the Furka Pass-Urseren Zone in central Switzerland. Four common types have been distinguished in the field, named after vein geometries in their boudin necks in sections normal to the boudin axis: lozenge-, crescent-, X- and double crescent- type FBSs. Lozengetype FBSs are symmetric and characterized by lozenge-shaped veins in their boudin neck with two cusps facing opposite sides. A symmetrical pair of flanking folds occurs on the two sides of the vein. Crescent-type FBSs are asymmetric with a single smoothly curved vein in the boudin neck, with vein contacts facing to one side. X- and double crescent- type FBSs are asymmetric. The geometry of the neck veins resembles that of cuspate-lobate structures. The geometry of flanking structures is related to the shape of the veins. The veins are mostly filled with massive quartz in large single crystals, commonly associated with tourmaline, feldspar and biotite and in some cases with chlorite. The dominance of large facetted single quartz crystals and spherulitic chlorite in the veins suggest that the minerals grew into open fluidfilled space. FLAC experiments show that fracture propagation during ductile deformation strongly influences the geometry of developing veins. The cusps of the veins are better developed in the case of propagating fractures. The shape of the boudin neck veins in foliation boudinage depends on the initial orientation and shape of the fracture, the propagation behaviour of the fracture, the geometry of bulk flow, and the stage at which mineral filling takes place. A two dimensional discrete element model was used to study the progressive development of foliation boudinage structures and the behavior of visco-elastic material deformed under pure shear conditions. Discrete elements are defined by particles that are connected by visco-elastic springs. Springs can break. A number of simulations was Abstract vii performed to investigate the effect of material properties (Young’s modulus, viscosity and breaking strength) and anisotropy on the developing structures. The models show the development of boudinage in single layers, multilayers and in anisotropic materials with random mica distribution. During progressive deformation different types of fractures develop from mode I, mode II to the combination of both. Voids develop along extension fractures, at intersections of conjugate shear fractures and in small pull-apart structures along shear fractures. These patterns look similar to the natural examples. Fractures are more localized in the models where the elastic constants are low and the competence contrast is high between the layers. They propagate through layers where the constants are high and the competence contrast is relatively low. Flow localize around these fractures and voids. The patterns similar to symmetric boudinage structures and extensional neck veins (e.g. lozenge type) more commonly develop in the models with lower elastic constants and anisotropy. The patterns similar to asymmetric foliation boudinage structures (e.g. X-type) develop associated with shear fractures in the models where elastic constants and anisotropy of the materials are relatively high. In these models boudin neck veins form commonly at pull-aparts along the shear fractures and at the intersection of fractures.
