La contrarrevolución del virrey Abascal: Lima, 1806-1816 (Estudios)

Durante los años del colapso de la monarquía española, el Virreinato del Perú estuvo gobernado por Fernando de Abascal, quien, en alianza con la élíte de Lima, aplicó una política de represión en términos ideológicos y militares ante cualquier intento separatista o revolucionario, tanto dentro de su jurisdicción virreinal como fuera de ella, entre cuyos territorios vecinos estaban Quito, Chile y Charcas. Asimismo, mediante esta estrategia, el Virreinato de Lima intentó recuperar parte de la influencia perdida en América del Sur como consecuencia de la aplicación de las reformas borbónicas, especialmente durante la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII. El presente artículo pone atención a la respuesta de Lima contra al movimiento insurgente desatado en Quito a partir de 1809.

Análisis comparativo de la evaluación del desempeño según Martha Alles y Idalberto Chiavenato; estudio de caso Corporación Holdingdine

El desarrollo de la presente tesis busca la comprensión del aporte que brinda la Evaluación o Gestión del Desempeño como un instrumento o herramienta que su fin no es otro sino mejorar los resultados del Talento Humano de la organización. Conocer los diferentes tipos de evaluaciones del desempeño existentes y determinar por medio un sustento teórico por qué evaluar bajo una metodología determinada, conociendo las ventajas y desventajas de cada uno de ellos, es lo que me permitió realizar una propuesta piloto de evaluación del desempeño 360°. La evaluación 360° tiene muchas ventajas y sus desventajas son mínimas comparadas con otras metodologías, es una herramienta que permite que un empleado sea evaluado por sus comportamientos observables en el desarrollo diario de la práctica profesional, por todo su entorno: jefes, pares y subordinados, las fuentes múltiples pueden proveer un marco más completo y relevante del desempeño de una persona. La evaluación 360° garantiza la adaptabilidad y el ajuste del empleado a las diversas exigencias del ambiente de trabajo y de sus compañeros. Los empleados asumen más y mejor sus conductas saben cómo impactan a los demás, al suceder esto es factible prever un incremento en la productividad, la puesta en práctica de esta evaluación implica un fuerte compromiso tanto de la empresa como del personal que la integra. Holdingdine al ser considerada una Organización madura para aplicar esta herramienta, ya que en la actualidad se aplica la evaluación 180° es decir el cambio a 360° sería gradual.

‘Scripture its own interpreter’: Mary Martha Sherwood, the Bible and female autobiography

This is a reading of the work of Mary Martha Sherwood, the Victorian Evangelist and Children’s Author (and pupil at the Abbey School, Reading). Based upon research on Sherwood’s private correspondences and diary conducted at UCLA with the aid of a Mitzi Myers (this before my arrival at Reading), the essay offers a radical reinterpretation of her work. Previously understood in terms of a rigid, if self-contradictory and ‘anxious’, Evangelism, the essay reads the diary through Sherwood’s little known Biblical scholarship. Through this I argue that Sherwood grants her own writing the status of Biblical truth precisely because of its contradictions and ‘anxiety’.

Inspired by the past, driven by the passion: music in state-supported education in New South Wales and Victoria 1848-1920

This investigation considers the development of class music teaching in New South Wales and Victoria during the first seventy-two years of state-supported primary education. The first chapter describes the English background including music teaching methods (resulting from the mid-nineteenth century English choral singing movement) and the subsequent development of music teaching in English elementary schools. The promotion of school music is then considered on a broadly chronological basis in the two states and several themes are identified in relation to school music policy and practice. These include the status of music (core curriculum or extra-curricular subject), who should teach music (generalist or specialist teachers), what teaching methods and music notation should be used (staff or Tonic Sol-fa), musical training for generalist teachers, and curriculum content in relation to the aims and objectives of school music. Comparisons are made between developments in both states and between both states and English school music. The final chapter demonstrates the relevance of many of the historical themes identified for music education today. The thesis concludes by identifying a recurring problem from the past. namely the lack of co-ordination between various aspects of school music policy, as the most serious problem to be overcome in the future.

Round the bend : a brief history of mental health nursing in Victoria, Australia 1848 to 1950's

This paper presents a history of mental health nursing in Victoria, Australia from 1848 to the 1950's, or the asylum years to the era of the mental hospital. The research for this historical overview was conducted as part of a literature review for a mental health nursing doctoral thesis, which included an account of the evolution of the profession from asylum attendant to the present time. The literature reviewed for this project revealed a distinct lack of a coherent, chronological account of the historical development of mental health nursing in Victoria, and this paper seeks to address that knowledge gap.

The value of oral history in natural resource management : the Balcombe Estuary Reserve, Mount Martha, Victoria

This study investigates the benefits of using oral history as a tool for the sustainable management of estuaries. Twenty-two semi-structured interviews were conducted to generate oral history records for the Balcombe Estuary Reserve, a small estuary in a periurban zone on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. These interviews establish a more complete picture of changes in land use and ecological change to the estuary since European settlement of the area, and document community values. The interviews were followed with a survey to further explore management issues in the area. Use of oral history was found to be an effective approach to assist holistic estuarine management, especially when complemented by other sources of information.

Creativity has been defined 'as the production of novel and useful ideas in any domain'. I would question the words 'novel' and 'useful' because, if the idea is 'useless' but new to the creator, the creator has still given birth to an idea via some form of creative process. I suggest, therefore, that 'creativity' is simply the production of ideas. But it is not quite that straightforward. Innovation is often distinguished from creativity as the successful implementation of ideas. Yet there is a creative process between the birth of an idea and its implementation—that is evolving/ developing/ operating on an idea. This development of an idea is also creativity. I would therefore say that creativity is a two-stage process: it is, firstly, the production and, secondly, the development of ideas; where 'production' is understood as the initiating activities a designer undertakes to inform or inspire ideas.

Interview with Martha "Marty" Grigsby

In her December 10, 2012 interview with Robert Ryals, Martha Grigsby detailed her thoughts and memories of her time at Winthrop University. Grigsby shares the story of how she was able to attend Winthrop and the members of her community who assisted her in this process. Included are details of working in the dining hall on a scholarship, how relationships were formed amongst students, and how the students navigated Winthrop’s strict rules. Grigsby concludes her interview by stating how Winthrop helped her career as an educator and how she has stayed involved as an alumna. This interview was conducted for inclusion into the Louise Pettus Archives and Special Collections Oral History Program.

Levando as capacidades a sério : a perspectiva de Martha Nussbaum para o desenvolvimento das mulheres

O propósito deste trabalho é apresentar algumas das mais controversas questões da teoria das capacidades de Martha Nussbaum. Ela sugere que sua abordagem deve ser usada como base para princípios fundamentais e políticos voltados para as mulheres dos países em desenvolvimento. Desta forma, no primeiro capítulo, foram delineados os conceitos da teoria de Nussbaum. Depois de descrever a versão de Nussbaum sobre a abordagem das capacidades, o diálogo da autora com Amartya Sen foi apresentado, pois estes possuem visões particulares sobre a idéia de capacidades. No terceiro capítulo, o debate de Nussbaum com os relativistas culturais revelou o lado universal de sua teoria. A lista de capacidades de Nussbaum busca fornecer o suporte filosófico para a implementação de princípios constitucionais básicos que devem ser respeitados por todas as nações, como o mínimo que o respeito à dignidade humana requer. Por conta disso, este trabalho tentou também descobrir porque Nussbaum nega a importância do welfarismo subjetivo. No último capítulo desta dissertação, foram apresentados os debates de Nussbaum com Judith Butler, Susan Moller Okin e Alison Jaggar porque eles revelam diferentes pontos de vista e conclusões sobre a teoria das capacidades de Nussbaum.
