Tensile stress–crack width law for steel fibre reinforced self-compacting concrete obtained from indirect (splitting) tensile tests

In this work, the fracture mode I parameters of steel fibre reinforced self-compacting concrete (SFRSCC) were derived from the numerical simulation of indirect splitting tensile tests. The combined experimental and numerical research allowed a comparison between the stress-crack width (σ - w) relationship acquired straightforwardly from direct tensile tests, and the σ - w response derived from inverse analysis of the splitting tensile tests results. For this purpose a comprehensive nonlinear 3D finite element (FE) modeling strategy was developed. A comparison between the experimental results obtained from splitting tensile tests and the corresponding FE simulations confirmed the good accuracy of the proposed strategy to derive the σ – w for these composites. It is concluded that the post-cracking tensile laws obtained from inverse analysis provided a close relationship with the ones obtained from the experimental uniaxial tensile tests.

Devices and Techniques for Blood Pressure Measurement and Criteria for Hypertension Adopted by Brazilian Physicians: Exploratory Study

OBJECTIVE: To determine technical procedures and criteria used by Brazilian physicians for measuring blood pressure and diagnosing hypertension. METHODS: A questionnaire with 5 questions about practices and behaviors regarding blood pressure measurement and the diagnosis of hypertension was sent to 25,606 physicians in all Brazilian regions through a mailing list. The responses were compared with the recommendations of a specific consensus and descriptive analysis. RESULTS: Of the 3,621 (14.1%) responses obtained, 57% were from the southeastern region of Brazil. The following items were reported: use of an aneroid device by 67.8%; use of a mercury column device by 14.6%; 11.9% of the participants never calibrated the devices; 35.7% calibrated the devices at intervals < 1 year; 85.8% measured blood pressure in 100% of the medical visits; 86.9% measured blood pressure more than once and on more than one occasion. For hypertension diagnosis, 55.7% considered the patient's age, and only 1/3 relied on consensus statements. CONCLUSION: Despite the adequate frequency of both practices, it was far from that expected, and some contradictions between the diagnostic criterion for hypertension and the number of blood pressure measurements were found. The results suggest that, to include the great majority of the medical professionals, disclosure of consensus statements and techniques for blood pressure measurement should go beyond the boundaries of medical events and specialized journals.

Regímenes Internacionales y Derechos Humanos. La incidencia del sistema interamericano de protección en la legislación y jurisprudencia argentinas. International Regimes and Human Rights. The incidence of inter-American system in Argentine law and jurisprudence.

El nuevo escenario internacional produce lo que se ha dado en caracterizar como la globalización del derecho, especialmente en el ámbito de los derechos humanos. En este contexto se analiza la incidencia del Sistema Interamericano de protección de los Derechos Humanos con especial énfasis en el derecho de la información, desde la optica del derecho interno. Nos preguntamos acerca de cómo se presenta la tensión entre la lógica estatal con su rasgo de afirmación en la soberanía y monopolio en la creación de la jurisdicción doméstica, con la doctrina del derecho internacional de los derechos humanos, que consecuentemente conduce hacia una globalización jurídica de estos temas. Esto refleja un debilitamiento en el monopolio de creación y aplicación del derecho por parte de los Estados. A partir de este dato del escenario internacional buscamos determinar la incidencia de los informes de la Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos y los pronunciamientos de la Corte Interamericana en materia de derecho de la información y su influencia en la jurisprudencia y creación de legislación en nuestro país. Opinions and attitudes of a sample of Swiss physicians about physical activity promotion in a primary care setting

Little is known about the opinions, beliefs and behavior of Swiss physicians regarding physical activity (PA) promotion in a primary care setting. A qualitative study was performed with semi-structured interviews. We purposively recruited and interviewed 16 physicians in the French speaking part of Switzerland. Their statements and ideas regarding the promotion of PA in a primary care setting were transcribed and synthesized from the tape recorded interviews. Les opinions, les représentations et les comportements des médecins suisses en matière de promotion de l'activité physique au cabinet médical restent largement méconnus en Suisse. Une étude qualitative a été réalisée au moyen d'entretiens semi-structurés. Nous avons intentionnellement recruté et interviewé 16 médecins en Suisse romande. Leurs opinions et attitudes concernant la promotion de l'activité physique au cabinet médical ont été transcrites et synthétisées à partir de l'enregistrement de ces entretiens.

Partant de la réception internationale du film Le Roman d'un tricheur de Sacha Guitry dans laquelle la voix du cinéaste est fréquemment rapprochée de celle du "bonimenteur" de l'époque muette, cette étude examine les particularités de ce film en termes de positionnement du narrateur over par rapport aux images et par rapport au spectateur. Une filiation est posée entre ce film et Providence de Resnais au niveau des manifestations de l'oralité: là aussi, le narrateur occupe la place d'instigateur du monde filmique et de spectateur des images qu'il commente.

Influència de la música italiana en la composició en llengua romanç a la catedral de Tortosa (Tarragona), en la primera m. del segle XVIII

Estudi realitzat a partir d’una estada a la Società Italiana di Musicologia entre abril i maig del 2006. S’ha estudiat la influència de la música italiana durant les primeres dècades del segle XVIII, en les composicions en llengua romanç d’aquesta època conservades a l’arxiu musical de la catedral de Tortosa -Tarragona -. Sha a consultat de bibliografia específica així com la consulta directa de fonts italianes de l’època i l’estudi de les seves característiques (tipus d’escriptura, compasos més freqüents, estructura formal, veus/instruments utilitzats, ...). La consulta s’ha fet a diferents arxius i biblioteques romanes (arxiu històric i biblioteca de la Accademia Nazionale di S. Cecilia, biblioteca del Pontificio Istituto di Musica Sacra, arxiu de la Chiesa del Gesú, arxiu de la Chiesa Nazionale Spagnola, biblioteca del Conservatorio di musica Santa Cecilia i Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale Vittorio Emanuele II), així com de la Biblioteca Apostolica i el Archivio Segreto del Vaticano. La recerca ha confirmat que, durant les primeres dècades del segle XVIII, hi ha una influència considerable de la música italiana “de moda” en les composicions de la catedral de Tortosa escrites en llengua vernacla i, després d’un estudi comparatiu i de l’anàlisi d’una mostra de les obres italianes i de la Seu, s’ha arribat a la conclusió de que, si bé hi ha elements italians en les composicions tortosines, no es perd en elles el llenguatge hispànic de la tradició, si no que més bé hi ha una convivència de tots dos, fins i tot en una mateixa obra.
