Initiated in 2001, the West Tarkio Creek Watershed Project has a proven track record of implementing an enormous amount of structural conservation practices. To date, over $925,000 has been spent to build 69 miles of terraces on 63 cooperators' land. The success of the Project was due in large part to the conservation ethic of the landowners to improve their farms, preserve the productivity of the land, and protect West Tarkio Creek. This has been made possible through funding from DSC Watershed Protection Funds (WSPF) which has provided $1,362,592 in cost share funds since 2001 but is has been severely limited in recent years due to shortages within the State’s budget. The original project goals called for the construction of 750,000 feet (142 miles) of terraces to effectively treat the watershed. In order to meet these goals and bring the project to a successful endpoint, another 153,000 feet (29 miles) remain to be constructed by the landowners with the help of the SWCD staff. Severe rain events in recent years have caused an enormous amount of damage throughout the region, these storms were helpful in identifying where watershed work remains to be completed. Scars on the landscape in the aftermath of the storms clearly etched out the specific location where additional practices are needed in addition to those proposed in the original project work plan. Project supporters are confident that the WIRB Program can unlock this potential and pave the way for what can become known as one of the most effective land treatment projects in Iowa.

Au carrefour du divertissement et de l'information, l'émission télévisuelle, Les Guignols de l'info, parodie le monde culturel, politique et médiatique français par le biais des personnalités qui le composent. Créée dans une optique humoristique, l'émission pointe certains dysfonctionnements émergeant dans l'espace public. Elle dénonce ainsi une instrumentalisation du discours par les politiques à l'exemple des stratégies d'évitement déployées par Nicolas Sarkozy dans l'entretien analysé. Plus largement, cette dénonciation tend à révéler la présence d'un nouveau type de populisme dans les pratiques de communication médiatique actuelles. L'émission participe de ce fait à un commentaire citoyen sur l'espace public.

Comportamento vegetativo de seis cultivares de coqueiro-anão (Cocos nucifera L.), em Santo Antônio de Leverger - MT

A utilização de variedades ou genótipos de coqueiro adaptados às condições edafoclimáticas de uma região é de fundamental importância para a obtenção de altas produtividades. Neste experimento, estudou-se o comportamento vegetativo de seis cultivares de coqueiro-anão no município de Santo Antônio de Leverger - MT. As cultivares avaliadas foram: Anão-Vermelho-da-Malásia (AVM), Anão-Verde-de-Jiqui (AVeJ), Anão-Vermelho-de-Gramame (AVG), Anão-Vermelho-de-Camarões (AVC), Anão-Amarelo-de-Gramame (AAG) e Anão-Amarelo-da-Malásia (AAM) plantadas em maio de 1998, nas quais foram avaliadas, de abril de 1999 a dezembro de 2000, as seguintes características: circunferência do coleto (CC), número de folhas emitidas (NFE), número de folhas vivas (NFV), número de folhas mortas (NFM), número de folíolos na folha 3 (NFoF3), comprimento de folíolo na folha 3 (CFoF3), comprimento da folha 3 (CF3) e comprimento de pecíolo na folha 3 (CPF3). Utilizou-se delineamento experimental em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições, tendo cada parcela 16 plantas úteis. Para as características circunferência do coleto (CC), número de folíolos na folha 3 (NFoF3) e comprimento da folha 3 (CF3), o AAM apresentou os menores valores. O AVeJ e AVM apresentaram maiores crescimentos de planta, enquanto o AAM, AAG e AVC apresentaram menor crescimento; já o AVG apresentou desempenho intermediário.
