Il Discorso dell'amore verso la patria (1631) di Ludovico Zuccolo

Scopo di questo studio è la disamina e la divulgazione dei pregi letterari e del valore concettualmente innovativo del Discorso dell 'amore verso la patria di Ludovico Zuccolo. L'analisi dei contenuti dell'opera, unitamente alla puntualizzazione delle sue caratteristiche formali e stilistiche, permette di vedere come questo scrittore proponga, utilizzando la forma letteraria del discorso politico, una riuscita codificazione della tematica dei diritti e dei doveri dei cittadini verso la patria; operazione in cui si sostanzia, a mio avviso, l'apporto innovativo dello Zuccolo. Dopo l'iniziale riscoperta, da parte di Benedetto Croce, del capitolo delle Considerazioni sulla Ragion di Stato, l`opera dello Zuccolo ha generato un certo interesse critico fra gli studiosi di letteratura politica del "900" senza tuttavia divenire oggetto di contributi esaustivi malgrado, a nostro parere, la presenza di elementi di originalità di pensiero nel Discorso dell 'amore verso la patria. Inoltre, l'opinione degli specialisti non è mai stata unanime riguardo al valore e ai contenuti delle opere di questo autore. Se per il Croce, ne << La Critica >> del 1926, egli appare come colui che ha prodotto, «Lo scritto più acuto e originale sull'argomento [della Ragion di Stato], composto in quel seco1o.>> (p. 301), per altri egli si presenta come un dotto estensore di trattati politici nei quali sfoggia abilmente la sua erudizione classica e Luigi Firpo arriva a suggerire addirittura che lo Zuccolo sia colpevole di plagio proprio laddove tratta il tema della Ragion di Stato : Al punto in cui siamo, una cosa è certa, e cioè che i conti non tornano : non riesco a credere che uno scrittore inzeppi centinaia e centinaia di pagine di luoghi comuni, di erudizione d"accatto, di oziosità accademiche, e poi un bel mattino, morso dalla tarantola o baciato in fronte da Minerva, metta in carta il piccolo capolavoro, le pagine meditate e profonde, e perciò lungamente soffeite, che pure gli appartengono per una paternità incontestata e certa. Dico questo, perché in un caso del genere, non al miracolo s"avrebbe da credere, ma, semmai, al plagio. (1). Catherine Pitiot, nel suo saggio La retorica politica nell 'opera utopica di Ludovico Zuccolo, coglie invece in questo autore unicamente l"utopista che << lntende allontanarsi dalla realtà contemporanea per modificarla, correggerla e presentare un'in1magine che sia fondamentalmente diversa, a livello strutturale. >> (2). Di parere diametralmente opposto Rodolfo de Mattei, che attribuisce allo Zuccolo lo status di anti-utopista per eccellenza, tipico di uno scrittore che, Non ha voluto usufruire della facile libertà della fantasia per sovvertire l'ordine storico e per alterare arbitrariamente la natura umana, cioé per proporre un ordinamento mirante ad una radicale trasformazione della società e quindi di assai dubbia realizzazione. (3). Altri studiosi, fra cui Bruno Nediani, si sono dedicati alla descrizione della personalità dello Zuccolo, attingendo alle sue lettere - che lo stesso Nediani ha riscoperto - oltre che ai brevi accermi che di sé fa lo Zuccolo negli scritti. Dal saggio del Nediani, La personalità di Ludovico Zuccolo (1969), emerge la figura di un uomo tormentato e insoddisfatto, ossessionato dal sospetto dell"autorità ecclesiastica, costretto a procacciarsi impieghi inadeguati presso i potenti, all'inseguimento dell'obiettivo di una carriera che, comunque, finisce con il risultargli sempre, prima o poi, insopportabile. Più recentemente, Sergio Bertelli, nel suo contributo alla Storia della letteratura di Cecchi e Sapegno, ha aperto una nuova prospettiva sullo Zuccolo proponendolo come colui che, Spezza finalmente il cerchio moralistico costruito dal Botero attorno al pensiero machiavelliano e la ragion di stato cessa di essere giudicata vera o falsa, buona o malvagia, interessando in sé e per sé, cioé nei suoi presupposti e nei suoi fini esclusivamente politici. The rise of soluble TWEAK levels in severely obese subjects after bariatric surgery may affect adipocyte-cytokine production induced by TNFα.

CONTEXT Soluble TNF-like weak inducer of apoptosis (sTWEAK) is generated by the intracellular proteolytic cleavage of full-length membrane-bound TNF-like weak inducer of apoptosis (mTWEAK). sTWEAK levels are reduced in diseases with an inflammatory component. Additionally, sTWEAK hampers TNFα activity in human cells. OBJECTIVES The objectives of the study were as follows: 1) to determine circulating sTWEAK in severe obesity and after bariatric surgery; 2) to study m/sTWEAK and its receptor fibroblast growth factor-inducible 14 (Fn14) protein expression in sc adipose tissue (SAT) of severely obese subjects, in SAT stromal vascular fraction (SVF), and isolated adipocytes and in human monocyte-derived macrophages; and 3) to explore, on human adipocytes, the sTWEAK effect on TNFα proinflammatory activity. DESIGN sTWEAK levels were measured in cohort 1: severely obese subjects (n = 23) and a control group (n = 35); and in cohort 2: (n = 23) severely obese subjects before and after surgery. The m/sTWEAK and Fn14 expressions were determined in SAT biopsies, SVF, and isolated adipocytes from severely obese and control subjects and in human monocyte-derived macrophages. In human primary cultured adipocytes, sTWEAK pretreated and TNFα challenged, IL-6, IL-8, and adiponectin protein and gene expressions were determined and nuclear factor-κ B and MAPK signaling analyzed. RESULTS sTWEAK levels were reduced in severely obese subjects. After surgery, sTWEAK levels rose in 69% of patients. mTWEAK protein expression was increased in SAT and SVF of severely obese subjects, whereas Fn14 was up-regulated in isolated adipocytes. M2 human monocyte-derived macrophages overexpress mTWEAK. In human adipocytes, sTWEAK down-regulates TNFα cytokine production by hampering TNFα intracellular signaling events. CONCLUSION The decrease of sTWEAK in severely obese patients may favor the proinflammatory activity elicited by TNFα.

Monitoring of CD4(+)CD25(high)IL-7R alpha(high) activated T Cells in Kidney Transplant Recipients

Background and objectives In humans, circulating CD4(+)CD25(high) T cells contain mainly regulatory T cells (Treg; FoxP3(+)IL-7R alpha(low)), but a small subset is represented by activated effector T cells (Tact; FoxP3(-)IL-7R alpha(high)). The balance between Tact and Treg may be important after transplantation. The aim of this study was first to analyze and correlate CD4(+)CD25(high) Tact and Treg with the clinical status of kidney transplant recipients and second to study prospectively the effect of two immunosuppressive regimens on Tact/Treg during the first year after transplantation.Design, setting, participants, & measurements CD4(+)CD25(high) Tact and Treg were analyzed by flow cytometry, either retrospectively in 90 patients greater than 1 year after kidney transplantation (cross-sectional analysis) or prospectively in 35 patients receiving two immunosuppressive regimens after kidney transplantation (prospective analysis).Results A higher proportion of Tact and a lower proportion of Treg were found in the majority of kidney recipients. In chronic Immoral rejection, a strikingly higher proportion of Tact was present. A subgroup of stable recipients receiving calcineurin inhibitor-free immunosuppression (mycophenolate mofetil, azathioprine, or sirolimus) had Tact values that were similar to healthy individuals. In the prospective analysis, the proportion of Tact significantly increased in both immunosuppression groups during the first year after transplantation.Conclusions These data highlight distinct patterns in the proportion of circulating Tact depending on the clinical status of kidney recipients. Moreover, the prospective analysis demonstrated an increase in the proportion of Tact, regardless of the immunosuppressive regimen. Faut-il traiter les dyslipidémies chez les personnes âgées et très âgées. [Should we treat dyslipidemia in the elderly and the oldest old?].

Therapy of dyslipidemia in the elderly and the oldest old remains controversial. Several studies have shown benefits of statins on secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease in older adults up to 80 years, but data remain scarce after that age. Fewer studies have assessed the impact of statins in primary prevention in the elderly. Most studies have not included adults older than 75 years, and absolute risk reduction is far lower compared to secondary prevention. Use of statins for primary prevention in this age group should be based on individual decision, taking into account patient's functional and cognitive status, comorbidities and other therapies to avoid drugs interactions, with the help of shared-decision making.

Tibial component positioning in total knee arthroplasty: bone coverage and extensor apparatus alignment.

Correct positioning of the tibial component in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) must take into account both an optimal bone coverage (defined by a maximal cortical bearing with posteromedial and anterolateral support) and satisfactory patellofemoral tracking. Consequently, a compromise position must be found by the surgeon during the operation to simultaneously meet these two requirements. Moreover, tibial tray positioning depends upon the tibial torsion, which has been shown to act mainly in the proximal quarter of the tibia. Therefore, the correct application of the tibial tray is also theoretically related to the level of bone resection. In this study, we first quantified the torsional profile given by an optimal bone coverage for a symmetrical tibial tray design and for an asymmetrical one. Then, for the two types of tibial trays, we measured the angle difference between optimal bone coverage and an alignment on the middle of the tibial tubercule. Results showed that the values of the torsional profile given by the symmetrical tray were more scattered than those from the asymmetrical one. However, determination of the mean differential angle between the position providing optimal bone coverage and the one providing the best patellofemoral tracking indicated that the symmetrical prosthetic tray offered the best compromise between these two requirements. Although the tibiofemoral joint is known to be asymmetric in both shape and dimension, the asymmetrical tray chosen in this study was found to fulfill this compromise with more difficulty.
