Objectifs: Faire le point sur les connaissances concernant la contraception post-coïtale (CPC) et son utilisation par les adolescentes, et réunir les recommandations utiles aux médecins prescripteurs. Matériel et méthodes: La revue de littérature concernant la CPC et les résultats d'une enquête concernant les comportements sexuels des adolescents de 16-20 ans en Suisse sont utilisés. Résultats: Plusieurs méthodes peuvent être utilisées incluant les oestroprogestatifs et les progestatifs seuls. C'est surtout à l'occasion de rupture de préservatif, d'oubli de pilule ou d'absence de contraception que la CPC peut être utile. Les adolescents sexuellement actifs semblent connaître l'existence de la CPC et 20% des jeunes filles y ont eu recours en Suisse. Mais les obstacles qui limitent l'accès à la CPC sont nombreux au niveau de l'information et de la qualité des services dans cette situation d'urgence. Discussion et conclusion: La sensibilisation des adolescents et des jeunes aux conditions d'utilisation de la CPC est nécessaire, et doit être associée à un effort de formation des professionnels et de qualité des services pour faciliter l'accès à la CPC. Mots-clefs: contraception d?urgence, contraception post-coïtale, pilule du lendemain, adolescents.<br/><br/>Purpose: To describe and analyze emergency contraception (EC) awareness and use among sexually active Swiss teenagers. Methods: Anonymous computerized questionnaires were distributed to a national representative sample of 4283 in-school adolescents (aged 16 to 20 years) in high schools and professional centers. Young people who were sexually active (51.5% of the sample: 1058 girls and 1073 boys) responded to questions on EC awareness and use and on sexual perception, attitude and behaviors. Univariate analyses and multiple regression analyses were used to describe EC awareness and use and their correlates. Results: Most of the sexually active girls (89.3%) and boys (75.2%) knew of the existence of EC. Of girls, 20% reported having used EC, and the majority of them used it only once (64.1%) or twice (18.5%). EC awareness was positively associated with the father's level of education (girls: odds ratio:5.18), and the scholastic curriculum of the respondent. Gender differences in the correlates of EC awareness demonstrate that girls who had a confidant, or a group of friends or boys of Swiss nationality and those who have had the opportunity to discuss the issue of contraception declare greater awareness of EC. EC use was higher among girls who lived in urban areas (odds ratio: 1.91) and occasionally had unprotected intercourse. We did not find any significant difference in the profile of multiple vs. one-time users. Conclusion: EC awareness and use should be improved through better information and accessibility, especially among teenagers who place themselves in at-risk situations. This is a study concerned with determining the efficiency in training high school chemistry teachers in the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul. The analysis was based on the following information, i.e., the opinion of the students who were enrolled in the course, university entrance examinations and academic performance. We reach the conclusion that the goal was partially achieved in training high schools' teachers. Further suggestions and strategies are proposed in order to overcome the problems.

The main objectives and findings of this first research report are presented in thischapter. "The Implementation of the Internet in the Spanish Education System: State of Affairsand Future Prospects" is a large-scale research project that seeks to obtain relevant data about the introduction and dissemination of Information and Communication Technology, particularly the internet, in the practical and organizational general procedures of the Spanish schools and high schools. The project articulates the processes of ICT implementation on the primary andsecondary education levels embracing a holistic approach, propped up by an empirical and analytical research methodology. Thus, our survey does not intend to detect which is the impact of ICT on school activities but how all the agents involved in the school community incorporate ICT and what use they make of it. We are especially interested in identifying the teachers' pedagogical and professional uses of ICT, how students use it in their activities and to what extent it contributes in reinforcing teamwork andparticipation proceedings in the institutions, as well as the relations between the latter and their context. It is also of our interest to know the factors that exert the strongest influence on the way teachers, head teachers and students make use of ICT. Finally, we intend to identify the ways ICT may contribute to the improvement of educational practices.

The article describes and summarizes some results of the research Identification of the difficulties, collection of good practices and analysis of the improvement processes in Secondary Education Institutes of Catalonia (2011). An approach to the situation of conviviality in the Catalan public Secondary schools gathering the perception of the management teams, through an ethnographic approach and of analysis of the stories. It has its origin in a work commissioned from the General Subdirectorate of Permanent Teacher Training of the Generalitat of Catalonia, developed in the context of the module “Conviviality and Organization of Centres”, within the program of permanent training of management teams. It falls in line with action-oriented research to improve practice. The paper gathers and synthesizes the results obtained in the collection and systematization of the proposed improvements. It is structured in three parts: a) a theoretical analysis which conceptualizes violence / conviviality and sense of good practices; b) the explanation of the design, methodology and development of research and c) the categorization of the improvement proposals and the conclusions of the work

This article presents the basic ideas that oriented the elaboration of the new Chemistry Curriculum for the High Schools in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The main features of traditional Brazilian Chemistry Curriculum are critically discussed, namely, the excessive number of concepts, the overemphasis in procedures and rituals instead of chemical principles and the lack of relationship between the concepts and the social, technological and environmental contexts. Trying to overcome these features, the proposed curriculum deals with a fewer number of concepts, clearly related in a conceptual structure, opening space to a balanced emphasis on phenomena, theory and representation, and on conceptual and contextual aspects of chemical knowledge.

The purpose of this comparative study is to profile second language learners by exploring the factors which have an impact on their learning. The subjects come from two different countries: one group comes from Milwaukee, US, and the other from Turku, Finland. The subjects have attended bilingual classes from elementary school to senior high school in their respective countries. In the United States, the subjects (N = 57) started in one elementary school from where they moved on to two high schools in the district. The Finnish subjects (N = 39) attended the same school from elementary to high school. The longitudinal study was conducted during 1994-2004 and combines both qualitative and quantitative research methods. A Pilot Study carried out in 1990-1991 preceded the two subsequent studies that form the core material of this research. The theoretical part of the study focuses first on language policies in the United States and Finland: special emphasis is given to the history, development and current state of bilingual education, and the factors that have affected policy-making in the provision of language instruction. Current language learning theories and models form the theoretical foundation of the research, and underpin the empirical studies. Cognitively-labeled theories are at the forefront, but sociocultural theory and the ecological approach are also accounted for. The research methods consist of questionnaires, compositions and interviews. A combination of statistical methods as well as content analysis were used in the analysis. The attitude of the bilingual learners toward L1 and L2 was generally positive: the subjects enjoyed learning through two languages and were motivated to learn both. The knowledge of L1 and parental support, along with early literacy in L1, facilitated the learning of L2. This was particularly evident in the American subject group. The American subjects’ L2 learning was affected by the attitudes of the learners to the L1 culture and its speakers. Furthermore, the negative attitudes taken by L1 speakers toward L2 speakers and the lack of opportunities to engage in activities in the L1 culture affected the American subjects’ learning of L2, English. The research showed that many American L2 learners were isolated from the L1 culture and were even afraid to use English in everyday communication situations. In light of the research results, a politically neutral linguistic environment, which the Finnish subjects inhabited, was seen to be more favorable for learning. The Finnish subjects were learning L2, English, in a neutral zone where their own attitudes and motivation dictated their learning. The role of L2 as a means of international communication in Finland, as opposed to a means of exercising linguistic power, provided a neutral atmosphere for learning English. In both the American and Finnish groups, the learning of other languages was facilitated when the learner had a good foundation in their L1, and the learning of L1 and L2 were in balance. Learning was also fostered when the learners drew positive experiences from their surroundings and were provided with opportunities to engage in activities where L2 was used.

Les escoles rurals de la zona Salines-Bassegoda estroben, com la majoria d'escoles rurals del país, en un procés de transformació permanent i profund.Aquesta transformació és amplia perquè afecta lamorfología, la composició i la dinàmica de la mateixa escola. D'altra banda, també veiem com es modifica l'estructura económicoproductiva dels pobles i l'estructura i composició dels seushabitants. És per aixó que crec necessari analitzar de forma simultània l'evolució i característiques de l'escola, del medi i dela població

Case studies were used as teaching methodology in Chemistry teacher education. The reffered methodology consists of teaching principles of Physical Chemistry associated to biodiesel theme in an undergraduate chemistry course with pre-service teachers, who are temporary teachers in high schools in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil. The results showed that the methodology was well accepted by the pre-service teachers. The concepts related to Chemistry, by means of multidisciplinary science, technological and social approaches make it able to overcome and improve the present situation in public schools and provided the learning of the chemistry concepts by high school students.

This paper presents a multivariate statistical analysis as a valuable tool for educational management applied to public high school chemistry teacher formation. From 2003 to 2007, a decrease of 10% in the number of public high schools was seen, as well as a reduction of 7% in the number of teachers. Contrarily, there was an increase in the number of university graduate teachers. Principal Component Analyses reveal that in 2003, most chemistry teachers were not university graduates. In 2007, eight Regional Offices of Education reported teachers holding academic degrees, qualifying them as chemistry teacher in the school system

Chlorine, one of the most frequent elements on earth and most important key chemicals, is indispensable in the syllabi of school and university courses in Inorganic Chemistry. However, its toxicity and high volatility preclude experimental demonstration of its properties in secondary and high schools and most university labs. This paper summarises the industrial role of chlorine and presents miniaturised experiments demonstrating some of the processes used in Industrial Inorganic Chemistry. Furthermore, experiments illustrating important concepts of Inorganic Chemistry such as Ion Bonding and Molecular Orbital Theory are describe.
