Effect of Al(PO3)(3) content on physical, chemical and optical properties of fluorophosphate glasses for 2 mu m application

The effect of Al(PO3)(3) content on physical, chemical and optical properties of fluorophosphate glasses for 2 mu m application, such as thermal stability, chemical durability, surface hardness, absorption spectra and emission spectra, is investigated. With the increment of Al(PO3)(3) content, the thermal stability characterized by the gap of T-g and T,, increases first and then decreases, and reaches the maximum level containing 5 mol% Al(PO3)(3) content. The density and chemical durability decrease monotonously with the introduction of Al(PO3)(3) content increasing, while the refractive index and surface hardness increase. Above properties of fluorophosphate glasses are also compared with fluoride glasses and phosphate glasses. The Judd-Ofelt parameters, absorption and emission cross sections are discussed based on the absorption spectra of Tm-doped glasses. The emission spectra are also measured and the 1.8 mu m fluorescence of the sample is obvious indicating that it is suitable to 2 mu m application. (c) 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Infrared (1.2-1.6 mu m) luminescence in Yb, Cr : YAG with 940 nm diode pumping

Infrared (1.2-1.6 mum) luminescence in a yttrium aluminium garnet (YAG) crystal, co-doped with Yb (10 at.%) and Cr (0.05 at.%) ions, was investigated under CW laser diode pumping (lambda = 940 nm). The Cr4+ emission band was observed with its peak at 1.35 mum and measured to be about 6% with respect to Yb3+ IR luminescence (lambda = 1.03 mum). Analysis of the crystal absorption and luminescence spectra allows one to conclude that Yb3+-Cr4+ energy transfer is a mechanism responsible for the B-3(2)(T-3(2))-B-3(1)((3)A(2)) emission of Cr4+ ions. Infrared (1.2-1.6 mu m) luminescence in Cr4+: Yb3Al5O12 single crystal with 940 nm diode pumping

Infrared (1.2-1.6 mu m) luminescence in a ytterbium aluminium garnet (YbAG) crystal, doped with Cr (0.05 at.%) ions, was investigated under CW laser diode pumping (lambda = 940 nm). The Cr4+ emission band was observed with its peak at 1.34 mu m and measured to be about 1.3 times with respect to Yb3+ IR luminescence (lambda = 1.03 mu m). We demonstrate that for the excitation wavelength of 940 nm Yb3+ ions act as sensitizers of the B-3(2)(T-3(2))-B-3(1)((3)A(2)) emission of Cr4+ ions. High quantum fluorescence yield of Er3+ at 1.5 mu m in an Yb3+, Ce3+-codoped CaF2 crystal

For the first time, a quaternary doping system of Er3+, Yb3+, Ce3+, Na+:CaF2 single crystal was demonstrated to have high fluorescence yield in the eye-safe 1.5 mu m region under 980 nm laser diode pumping, with relatively broad and flat gain curves. A simplified model was established to illustrate the effect of Ce3+ on the branching ratio for the Er3+4I11/2 -> I-4(13/2) transition. With 0.2-at.% Er3+ and 2.0-at.% Ce3+ in the quaternary-doped CaF2 crystal, the branching ratio was estimated to be improved more than 40 times by the deactivating effect of Ce3+ on the Er3+ 4I11/2 level. The quaternary-doped CaF2, system shows great potential to achieve high laser performance in the 1.5 mu m region. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

7.3 W of single-frequency output power at 2.09 μm from an Ho:YAG monolithic nonplanar ring laser

Single-frequency output power of 7.3 W at 2.09 mu m from a monolithic Ho:YAG nonplanar ring oscillator (NPRO) is demonstrated. Resonantly pumped by a Tm-doped fiber laser at 1.91 mu m, the Ho:YAG NPRO produces 71% of slope efficiency with respect to absorbed pump power and nearly diffraction-limited output with a beam quality parameter of M-2 approximate to 1.1. Polarized spectral analysis of Ho3+ ions in biaxial YAlO3 crystal for 2 mu m lasers

An Ho3+-doped YAlO3 (Ho : YAP) single crystal has been grown by the Czochralski technique. The polarized absorption spectra, polarized fluorescence spectra and fluorescence decay curve of the crystal are measured at room temperature. The spectroscopic parameters are calculated based on Judd-Ofelt theory, and the effective phenomenological intensity parameters Omega(2,eff), Omega(4,eff) and Omega(6,eff) are obtained to be 2.89 x 10(-20), 2.92 x 10(-20) and 1.32 x 10(-20) cm(2), respectively. The room-temperature fluorescence lifetime of the Ho3+ 5I(7) -> I-5(8) transition is measured to be 8.1 ms. Values of the absorption and emission cross-sections with different polarizations are presented for the I-5(7) manifold, and the polarized gain cross-section curves are also provided and discussed.

Judd-Oflet analysis of spectrum and laser performance of Ho:YAP crystal end-pumped by 1.91-mu m Tm:YLF laser

The Ho:YAP crystal is grown by the Czochralski technique. The room-temperature polarized absorption spectra of Ho:YAP crystal was measured on a c-cut sample with 1 at% holmium. According to the obtained Judd-Ofelt intensity parameters Omega(2) = 1.42 x 10(-20) cm(2), Omega(4) = 2.92 x 10(-20) cm(2), and Omega(6) = 1.71 x 10(-20) cm(2), this paper calculated the fluorescence lifetime to be 6 ms for I-5(7) -> I-5(8) transition, and the integrated emission cross section to be 2.24 x 10(-18) cm(2). It investigates the room-temperature Ho:YAP laser end-pumped by a 1.91-mu m Tm:YLF laser. The maximum output power was 4.1 W when the incident 1.91-mu m pump power was 14.4W. The slope efficiency is 40.8%, corresponding to an optical-to-optical conversion efficiency of 28.4%. The Ho:YAP output wavelength was centred at 2118 nm with full width at half maximum of about 0.8 nm.

Ictiologos de la Argentina: Gustavo Alfredo Rae

This series will include all those people who, by means of their contributions, great and small, played a part in the consolidation of ichthyology in Argentina. The general plan of this work consists of individual factsheets containing a list of works by each author, along with reference bibliography and, whenever possible, personal pictures and additional material. The datasheets will be published primarily in chronological order, although this is subject to change by the availability of materials for successive editions. This work represents another approach for the recovery and revalorization of those who set the foundations of Argentine ichthyology while in diverse historical circumstances. I expect this to be the beginning of a major work that achieves the description of such a significant part of the history of natural sciences in Argentina.

Gustavo Gutierrez: a igreja católica da teologia da libertação (19631971)

A Teologia da Libertação resultou de um movimento da Igreja Católica Latino-Americana que, para além da ação transformadora que buscou proporcionar quando começou a ser praticada na perspectiva libertadora, foi síntese histórica do que a precedeu. Não seria possível falar desta teologia sem, minimamente, citar eventos que facilitaram a compreensão do que seria o homem praticando a evangelização, pois não só a escassez sacerdotal fez ascender o leigo dentro da instituição, como, inclusive, a secularização do Estado e o contínuo desenvolvimento das ciências humanas e de conceitos filosóficos que, ao serem criticados pela Igreja Católica Romana, definiram as interpretações hierárquicas e sacerdotais sobre o que seria, portanto, a Igreja do século XX. Estas características são melhores compreendidas quando o precedente sociopolítico de um dos seus principais idealizadores, Gustavo Gutierrez, é aproximado na perspectiva com que ele próprio descreve o que viria a ser a atuação religiosa na emancipação humana, ratificando sua proposta de superação prática da condição de oprimido e opressor, ou, como ele denomina, da práxis libertadora.

Pedra. Pedro que só quero pedros, pedra!: o valor expressivo das frases nominais na leitura de Pedro Pedra, de Gustavo Bernardo

O presente trabalho tem por objetivo analisar o valor expressivo das frases nominais no romance Pedro Pedra, de Gustavo Bernardo. No ensino de língua materna, comumente as frase nominais só recebem a classificação de construção que dispensa o uso do verbo. Desse modo, pouco é explorado dessa construção linguística. A presente pesquisa estabelece, portanto, como objetivo uma proposta de leitura que busca não só o valor gramatical das frases nominais, mas também o valor expressivo que elas podem desempenhar no texto. Além disso, procura estreitar o elo indispensável, na Educação Básica, entre as aulas de língua materna e as de literatura , a fim de articular a leitura do texto literário com o ensino de Língua Portuguesa. Durante a pesquisa, observou-se que as frases nominais possuem variações e que cada uma delas apresenta uma característica própria, expressando, nas passagens em que são utilizadas, uma especificidade. É no universo descritivo que as construções nominais ganham maior destaque, contribuindo para a representação mental do elemento descrito, dando-lhe realce e propiciando impressões sensoriais. Desse modo, a presente dissertação trabalha as frases nominais como um recurso expressivo da língua. Com isso, pretende-se a reflexão sobre a produtividade do trabalho com a leitura literária nas aulas de língua materna, levando em conta de que o texto literário possui todas as possiblidades da língua em potencial.
