The Matt Christopher Papers consist of published manuscripts, published short stories (1943-1994) (drafts, synopses, plot outlines, and magazines, comics, and newspapers with articles and short stories), galleys (1954-1990s), leather bound author’s editions (1954-1991), and publisher’s editions of Matt Christopher’s children’s books (1954-2004). The collection contains many unpublished manuscripts and drafts outside the children’s book field (1954-1997), unpublished poems (1938-1993), unpublished screenplays (1940-1997), and unpublished short stories (1954-1997). Also included are taped (audio and video) interviews of Matt Christopher, as well as, puzzles for children (1988-1992), research materials and notes (1954-1997), sports rule-books (1954-1995), and writing guides (1909-1995), personal (1949-1997) and business correspondence (1952-2002), contract agreements (1952-1993), royalty statements (1954-1999), and biographical information (1917-2004), memorabilia (personalized baseball bat, framed pictures and award certificates, etc.), fan mail (1964-1999) and his personal book collection (1847-1995) (some signed by authors).

This research focused on identifying a series of successful practices relating to administrative talent management within the higher education setting. The field study included a thorough examination of seven small to mid-size private colleges and universities that have incorporated employee development strategies. These strategies were aimed at growing future leaders from within the organization in order to achieve continuity and support institutional priorities. Specifically, several focus areas were investigated including presidential vision, leadership commitment, talent management’s place among institutional priorities, program characteristics, and program evaluation. Among the commonalities that were gathered included support at the senior officer level who serve as advocates, mentors, and program facilitators, a strong connection between talent management and the institutions’ strategic plans, and a holistic approach to developing talent at all levels of the organizations. In addition, both coaching and opportunities for growth in the work environment were evident within several of the institutions. Also, academic leadership development was considered to be a part of the talent management strategy within three of the colleges and universities. The key differentiators included the incorporation of organizational and leadership competencies to provide focus toward the performance development process at two institutions, the implementation of a succession planning model at another institution, and the location of human resource generalists in departments across two of the institutions to identify learning opportunities for both individuals and work teams. Based on both the findings from the field study and the literature review, a comprehensive procedural model is introduced that serves to support human resource departments and higher education professionals, in general, who are looking to either begin or broaden their own talent management approach. However, despite the progress that has been made across several institutions noted throughout the research study, much more must be learned in terms of how the time and resources invested in talent management translates to institutional success. Charlie Metro's career runs the gamut of the specialties found in baseball-player, coach, manager, scout, inventor. Metro has lived baseball at every level from the Great Depression to today's multimillion dollar contracts. One of a kind, Metro's life mirrors the astounding changes in the game as well as in the nation. Metro's tale is full of heart and a wealth of anecdotes, the result of a fascinating life and a true love of the game. Charlie Metro was born Charles Moreskonich in Nanty-Glo, Pennsylvania, in 1919. He played in the major leagues from 1943 to 1945 with the Detroit Tigers and the Philadelphia Athletics. He managed for parts of two seasons, with the 1962 Cubs and the 1970 Kansas City Royals. He also coached the 1965 Chicago White Sox and the 1982 Oakland Athletics. Although he had far longer service in the minor leagues, he will probably be best remembered as one of the great scouts and teachers in baseball history. Background: Research coaching program focuses on the development of abilities and scientific reasoning. For health professionals, it may be useful to increase both the number and quality of projects and manuscripts. Objective: To evaluate the initial results and implementation methodology of the Research and Innovation Coaching Program of the Research on Research group of Duke University in the Brazilian Society of Cardiology. Methods: The program works on two bases: training and coaching. Training is done online and addresses contents on research ideas, literature search, scientific writing and statistics. After training, coaching favors the establishment of a collaboration between researchers and centers by means of a network of contacts. The present study describes the implementation and initial results in reference to the years 2011-2012. Results: In 2011, 24 centers received training, which consisted of online meetings, study and practice of the contents addressed. In January 2012, a new format was implemented with the objective of reaching more researchers. In six months, 52 researchers were allocated. In all, 20 manuscripts were published and 49 more were written and await submission and/or publication. Additionally, five research funding proposals have been elaborated. Conclusion: The number of manuscripts and funding proposals achieved the objectives initially proposed. However, the main results of this type of initiative should be measured in the long term, because the consolidation of the national production of high-quality research is a virtuous cycle that feeds itself back and expands over time. The current study is a piece from the original project entitled "Diagnosis of the Artistic Gymnastics Development Program in Brazil". Among others issues, the coaching philosophy of coaches who are developing gymnasts that may be representative of the national team was a matter of analysis. We interviewed 46 coaches from 29 sports institutions in Brazil. As data collection we used a semi-structured interview and for data treatment we adopted the content analysis method of Bardin (2010). We have found out that there is an inconsistent philosophical basis, and in many institutions this has been mixed up with the objectives of the training program or just doesn't exist. This fact needs consideration and criticism, but we know that the coaching philosophy is not developed during the coaching education courses.

[POR] Apesar da projeção do voleibol a nível mundial ter atraído a atenção para o estudo do processo do treino e do treinador, o número de estudos empíricos que investiguem a percepção destes profissionais no que respeita à intervenção em diferentes domínios de ação é ainda reduzida. Nesse sentido, com base no coaching model, a presente investigação procurou analisar, junto dos 24 treinadores da Superliga Brasileira de Voleibol, o seu conhecimento e ações, em situações de competição.

[ES]La implantación de los nuevos grados de Historia ha traído consigo un cambio en la distribución de créditos y la situación de esta materia en los nuevos planes de estudio, que obligan a una reconfiguración de los objetivos e incluso de la propia metodología docente. En este trabajo se explica la experiencia acumulada en la utilización de las TIC como apoyo a la enseñanza presencial, con especial referencia a las buenas prácticas en la utilización de la web 2.0 desarrolladas en el aula y en el trabajo autónomo de los estudiantes.

[ES] El Libro Blanco de la Titulación del Grado en Historia, publicado por la ANECA en 2004 recogía, a partir de las sugerencias del informe del Tuning Project, una serie de recomendaciones para incorporar las TIC, y en particular lo que se ha venido en denominar como alfabetización informacional en el programa formativo de las nuevas titulaciones. En el presente trabajo se explica la experiencia de innovación educativa de la Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, cuyo Grado en Historia incluye entre las materias obligatorias una asignatura que incorpora estos contenidos, con especial referencia al manejo de los recursos de la web 2.0.

[ES] Los objetivos del presente estudio son: 1) Describir los niveles de resiliencia en entrenadores de atletismo de alto rendimiento; 2) determinar los niveles de fiabilidad de los datos obtenidos con la muestra seleccionada; 3) comparar los resultados obtenidos con estudios precedentes. Se administró una adaptación de la entrevista para entrenadores de Ruiz (2004) y la adaptación al castellano de la escala de Resiliencia de Wagnield y Young (1993).

Trotz einer zunehmenden Relevanz psychischer Erkrankungen im Gesundheitssystem und einer bedeutenden psychosozialen Funktion der Arbeit gibt es bisher wenige Studien, die sich explizit einer Untersuchung des Zusammenhangs von psychischer Erkrankung und Arbeitsplatzproblemen widmen. Noch weniger Befunde gibt es zu einem Vergleich von klinischen und nicht-klinischen Personen bezüglich arbeitsrelevanter Faktoren. In der hier vorliegenden Studie erfolgte erstmals eine Überprüfung der Karasek-Modelle gleichzeitig an klinischen und nicht-klinischen Personen. Insgesamt nahmen 160 Personen an der Studie teil, jeweils 40 befanden sich in stationärer bzw. ambulanter psychotherapeutischer Behandlung; zu all diesen Personen wurden insgesamt 80 nicht-klinische Personen untersucht, die der Patientenstichprobe in Beruf, Geschlecht und Alter glichen. Alle Personen gaben Auskunft per Fragebogen und berichteten in einem etwa einstündigen Interview von Stressoren und Ressourcen am Arbeitsplatz. Diese Untersuchung ergab, dass sich die Arbeitsplatzprobleme klinischer Personen in der Qualität nicht von denen nicht-klinischer Personen unterschieden, jedoch berichteten klinische Personen eine höhere Anzahl an Arbeitsplatzproblemen. Die positiven Faktoren am Arbeitsplatz unterschieden sich weder qualitativ noch quantitativ zwischen klinischen und nicht-klinischen Personen. Die klinischen Personen setzten häufiger ungünstige Stressverarbeitungsstrategien ein und zeigten teilweise einen ungünstigeren Umgang mit der Arbeit. In der Gesamtstichprobe gelang eine Bestätigung des Job-Demand-Control-Modells sowie des Job-Demand-Control-Support-Modells (ohne Interaktionseffekte); Personen mit geringer Kontrolle, hohen Anforderungen und geringer sozialer Unterstützung am Arbeitsplatz wiesen die höchsten Erschöpfungswerte auf (38.8% der Varianz der Erschöpfungswerte konnte so erklärt werden). Innerhalb der klinischen Stichprobe und bei Personen mit hoher Internalität erbrachten die Modelle höhere Vorhersageleistungen, mögliche Ursachen werden diskutiert. Die Ergebnisse dieser Arbeit gehen über bisherige Befunde hinaus. Sie unterstreichen die Wichtigkeit der Berücksichtigung arbeitsrelevanter Faktoren in der Psychotherapie und unterstützen die aktuelle Entwicklung der zunehmenden gesundheitsrelevanten Hilfsangebote für Arbeitnehmer (z.B. Coaching-Sitzungen) in großen Unternehmen.

Scopo del presente lavoro di ricerca è quello di comparare due contesti metropolitani, valenciano e bolognese, sulle pratiche di accompagnamento al lavoro rivolte a fasce svantaggiate, in particolare persone con problemi di dipendenza da sostanze psicotrope. L’indagine propone un confronto su alcune tematiche trasversali (tipologia di azioni messe in campo, organizzazione territoriale e governance, profilo degli utenti, inserimento sociale, coinvolgimento del mondo produttivo) e pone in evidenza gli elementi che ci consentono di individuare e segnalare sia delle buone pratiche trasferibili sia delle linee progettuali, partendo dunque dal presupposto che capacitare una persona significa innanzitutto offrirle congrue opportunità di scelta, nel senso seniano e come spiegato dalla stessa Nussbaum, ma soprattutto accompagnarla e sostenerla nel percorso di inserimento lavorativo e, in parallelo, sociale. Il bisogno raccolto è quello di un sostegno, motivazionale e orientativo, che segua un approccio socio educativo capace di fornire, alla persona, una risposta integrata, di unicità, capace dunque di agire sull’autonomia, sull’autostima, sull’elaborazione delle proprie esperienze di vita e lavorative, nonché su elementi anche di contesto quali la casa, le reti amicali e familiari, spesso compromesse. L’elemento distintivo che consente di agire in questa direzione è il lavoro di collaborazione tra i diversi servizi e la co-progettazione del percorso con l’utente stesso. Il tema degli inserimenti lavorativi è un argomento molto complesso che chiama in causa diversi aspetti: i mutamenti sociali e le trasformazioni del lavoro; l’emergere di nuove fasce deboli e il rischio di aggravamento delle condizioni di esclusione per le fasce deboli “tradizionali”; l’importanza del lavoro per la costruzione di percorsi identitari e di riconoscimento; l’impatto delle politiche attive sulle fasce svantaggiate e i concetti di capitazione e attivazione; il ruolo del capitale sociale e l’emergere di nuovi welfare; la rete degli attori coinvolti dal processo di inserimento e il tema della governace territoriale.
