We present the first simultaneous measurement of the ratio of branching fractions, R = B(t --> Wb)/B(t --> Wq), with q being a d, s, or b quark, and the top-quark pair production cross section sigma(t (t) over bar) in the lepton plus jets channel using 0.9 fb(-1) of p (p) over bar collision data at root s = 1.96 TeV collected with the D0 detector. We extract R and sigma(t (t) over bar) by analyzing samples of events with 0, 1, and >= 2 identified b jets. We measure R = 0.97(-0.08)(+0.09) (stat + syst) and sigma(t (t) over bar) = 8.18(-0.84)(+0.90) (stat + syst) +/- 0.50(lumi) pb, in agreement with the standard model prediction.

We present a measurement of the shape of the Z/gamma* boson transverse momentum (q(T)) distribution in p (p) over bar -> Z/gamma(*)-> e(+)e(-)+X events at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV using 0.98 fb(-1) of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The data are found to be consistent with the resummation prediction at low q(T), but above the perturbative QCD calculation in the region of q(T)> 30 GeV/c. Using events with q(T)< 30 GeV/c, we extract the value of g(2), one of the nonperturbative parameters for the resummation calculation. Data at large boson rapidity y are compared with the prediction of resummation and with alternative models that employ a resummed form factor with modifications in the small Bjorken x region of the proton wave function.

We present a study of mu mu mu mu, eeee, and mu mu ee events using 1 fb(-1) of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron p (p) over bar Collider at root s = 1.96 TeV. Requiring the lepton pair masses to be greater than 30 GeV, we observe one event, consistent with the expected background of 0.13 +/- 0.03 events and with the predicted standard model ZZ and Z gamma(*) production of 1.71 +/- 0.15 events. We set an upper limit on the ZZ and Z gamma(*) cross section of 4.4 pb at the 95% C.L. We also derive limits on anomalous neutral trilinear ZZZ and ZZ gamma(*) gauge couplings. The one-parameter 95% C.L. coupling limits with a form-factor scale Lambda = 1.2 TeV are -0.28 < f(40)(Z)< 0.28, -0.31 < f(50)(Z)< 0.29, -0.26 < f(40)(gamma)< 0.26, and -0.30 < f(50)(gamma)< 0.28.

We report a search for R-parity-violating production and decay of sneutrino particles in the e mu final state with 1.04 +/- 0.06 fb(-1) of data collected with the D(0) detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider in 2002-2006. Good agreement between the data and the standard model prediction is observed. With no evidence for new physics, we set limits on the R-parity-violating couplings lambda'(311) and lambda(312) as a function of the sneutrino mass.

We present a measurement of the forward-backward charge asymmetry (A(FB)) in pp -> Z/gamma(*)+X -> e(+)e(-)+X events at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV using 1.1 fb(-1) of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. A(FB) is measured as a function of the invariant mass of the electron-positron pair, and found to be consistent with the standard model prediction. We use the A(FB) measurement to extract the effective weak mixing angle sin(2)theta(eff)(W)=0.2326 +/- 0.0018(stat)+/- 0.0006(syst).

The effect of calcination temperature during the formation of the solid solution Sn(0.9)Ti(0.1)O(2) doped with 1.00 mol % CoO and 0.05 mol % Nb(2)O(5) is presented. The structural characteristics of this system were studied using X-ray diffraction, and the changes in phase formation were analyzed using the Rietveld method. With an increase in calcination temperature, there is increasing miscibility of Ti into the (Ti,Sn)O(2) phase and near 1000 degrees C, and the remaining TiO(2) (anatase) was transformed into the rutile phase. The sintering process, monitored using dilatometry, suggests two mass transport mechanisms, one activated close to 900 degrees C associated with the presence of TiO(2) (anatase) and the second mechanism, occurring between 1200 and 1300 degrees C, is attributed to a faster grain boundary diffusion caused by oxygen vacancies. The purpose of this study was to evaluate in vivo the response of the periradicular tissues after endodontic treatment and root filling with Epiphany/Resilon (Penntron Clinical Technologies, LLC, Wallingford, CT) or gutta percha and new Sealapex (SybronEndo, Glendora, CA) in dogs' teeth with or without coronal restoration. Teeth without coronal restorations were used to assess the influence of continuous exposure to the oral environment on the periradicular tissues. Sixty root canals with vital pulps in three dogs were instrumented and obturated in a single session and randomly assigned to one of four groups as follows. group 1: root canal filling with Epiphany/Resilon with coronal restoration, group 2: root canal filling with Sealapex sealer and gutta percha with restoration, group 3: root canal filling with Epiphany/Resilon without restoration, and group 4: root canal filling with Sealapex sealer and gutta percha without coronal restoration. After 90 days, the animals were euthanized, and the maxillas and mandibles were removed and submitted for histologic processing. Longitudinal sections were obtained and stained with hematoxylin and eosin, Mallory's trichrome, and Brown and Brenn stains and examined under light microscopy. There were significant differences found between the four groups (p < 0.05). The results showed that roots canals filled with Epiphany/Resilon, with coronal restoration, had significantly less periradicular inflammation than roots canals filled with gutta percha and Sealapex, with coronal restoration (p = 0.021). No significant difference was observed in the intensity of inflammation between roots canals filled with Epiphany/ Resilon with no restoration and roots filled with gutta percha and Sealapex with restoration (p = 0.269). Roots canals filled with gutta percha and Sealapex sealer without coronal restoration showed the greatest degree of periradicular inflammation.

The male genitalia of Pseudopolybia vespiceps are described and compared to congeners. Characters of the male genitalia are combined with morphological characters of the females and nests and used in a phylogenetic analysis. The single cladogram resulting supports monophyly of the genus Pseudopolybia and interrelationships among the species as: P. langi + (P. difficilis + (P. compressa + P. vespiceps)). A new, illustrated identification key is presented.

Objectives. The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility of sentinel lymph node (SLN) identification using radioisotopic lymphatic mapping with technetium-99 m-labeled phytate in patients undergoing radical hysterectomy with pelvic lymphadenectomy for treatment of early cervical cancer.Methods. Between July 2001 and February 2003, 56 patients with cervical cancer 1160 stage I (it 53) or stage 11 (it 3) underwent sentinel lymph node detection with preoperative lymphoscintigraphy (Te-99m-labeled phytate injected into the uterine cervix, at 3, 6, 9, and 12 o'clock, at a dose of 55-74 MBq in a volume of 0.8 ml) and intratoperative lymphatic mapping with a handheld gamma probe, Radical hysterectomy was aborted in three cases because parametrial invasion was found intraoperatively and we performed only sentinel node resection. The remaining 53 patients underwent radical hysterectomy with complete pelvic lymphadenectomy, Sentinel nodes were detected using a handheld gamma-probe and removed for pathological assessment during the abdominal radical hysterectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy.Results. One or more sentinel nodes were detected in 52 out of 56 eligible patients (92.8%). A total of 120 SLNs were detected by lymphoscintigraphy (mean 2.27 nodes per patient) and intraoperatively by gamma probe, Forty-four percent of SLNs were found in the external iliac area, 39% in the obturator region, 8.3% in interiliae region, and 6.7),) in the common iliac area. Unilateral sentinel nodes were found in thirty-one patients (59%). The remaining 21 patients (4100 had bilateral sentinel nodes, Microscopic nodal metastases were confirmed in 17 (32%) cases. In 10 of these patients, only SLNs had metastases. The 98 sentinel node.,, that were negative on hematoxylin and eosin were submitted to cytokeratin immunohistochemical analysis. Five (5.1%) micrometastases were identified with this technique. The sensitivity of the sentinel node was 82.3% (CI 95% - 56.6-96.2) and the negative predictive value was 92.1% (CI 95% 78.6 98.3) the accuracy of sentinel node in predicting the lymph node status was 94.2%,Conclusion. Preoperative lymphoscintigraphy and intraoperative lymphatic mapping with Tc-99-labeled phytate are effective in identifying sentinel nodes in patients undergoing radical hysterectomy and to select women in whom lymph node dissection call be avoided. The purpose of this randomized, controlled trial was to evaluate transverse skeletal base adaptations to Bionator therapy. The sample included 25 patients (15 male, 10 female) aged 6.9 to 11.2 years with Class II Division 1 malocclusion. The patients were randomly allocated to either a control (n = 11) or treatment (n = 14) group and followed longitudinally for approximately 12 months. Treatment consisted of a Bionator only, constructed to remain approximately 2 mm from the buccal dentition. Transverse maxillary and mandibular changes were evaluated cephalometrically according to 4 bilateral maxillary and 2 bilateral mandibular implants. Untreated Class II controls exhibited significant increases between posterior maxillary implants but no significant changes between the anterior maxillary or mandibular implants. There were no significant width differences between the control and treated groups before treatment. Posterior maxillary implant widths increased significantly (P < .05) in both groups, but the treated group showed significantly greater width increases than the control group. The treated group also showed greater increases between mandibular implants, but the differences were not statistically significant. These results suggest that transverse skeletal base adaptations occur as a result of Bionator therapy.

Statement of problem. Cavity and tooth preparations generate heat because the use of rotary cutting instruments on dental tissues creates friction. Dental pulps cannot survive temperature increases greater than 5.5degreesC.Purpose. This study evaluated the efficiency of 3 different water flows for 2 different tooth preparation techniques to determine which are safe for use.Material and methods. Thermocouples were placed in the pulpal chambers of 30 bovine teeth, and 1 of 2 tooth preparation techniques was used: a low-load intermittent tooth preparation technique or a high-load tooth preparation technique without intervals. Water flows of 0, 30, and 45 mL/min were associated with each technique, for a total of 6 different groups. The results were analyzed with a 2-factor analysis of variance (P<.05).Results. Temperature increases with the high-load technique were 16.40&DEG;C without cooling (group 1), 11.68&DEG;C with 30 mL/min air-water spray cooling (group III), and 9.96&DEG;C with 45 mL/min cooling (group V). With the low-load tooth preparation technique, a 9.54&DEG;C increase resulted with no cooling (group II), a 1.56&DEG;C increase with 30 mL/min air-water spray cooling (group TV), and a 0.04&DEG;C decrease with 45 mL/min cooling (group VI). The low-load technique was associated with more ideal temperature changes.Conclusion. The results of this study confirm the necessity of using a low-load technique and water coolants during cavity and tooth preparation procedures.
