Minimum aberration is the most established criterion for selecting a regular fractional factorial design of maximum resolution. Minimum aberration designs for n runs and n/2 less than or equal to m < n factors have previously been constructed using the novel idea of complementary designs. In this paper, an alternative method of construction is developed by relating the wordlength pattern of designs to the so-called 'confounding between experimental runs'. This allows minimum aberration designs to be constructed for n runs and 5n/16 less than or equal to m less than or equal to n/2 factors as well as for n/2 less than or equal to m < n.

We report herein an intramolecular Diels-Alder approach towards the construction of the macrocyclic lactone ring and the perhydrobenzofuran system of the colletofragarones, novel metabolites produced by fungi of the genus Colletotrichum that are responsible for inhibition of germination of the conidia in these species. The UK construction industry is in the process of trying to adopt a new culture based on the large-scale take up of innovative practices. Through the Demonstration Project process many organizations are implementing changed practices and learning from the experiences of others. This is probably the largest experiment in innovation in any industry in recent times. The long-term success will be measured by the effectiveness of embedding the new practices in the organization. As yet there is no recognized approach to measuring the receptivity of the organization to the innovation process as an indication of the likelihood of long-term development. The development of an appropriate approach is described here. Existing approaches to the measurement of the take up of innovation were reviewed and where appropriate used as the base for the development of a questionnaire. The questionnaire could be applicable to multi-organizational construction project situations such that the output could determine an individual organization's innovative practices via an innovation scorecard, a project team's approach or it could be used to survey a wide cross-section of the industry.

An orthogonal forward selection (OFS) algorithm based on the leave-one-out (LOO) criterion is proposed for the construction of radial basis function (RBF) networks with tunable nodes. This OFS-LOO algorithm is computationally efficient and is capable of identifying parsimonious RBF networks that generalise well. Moreover, the proposed algorithm is fully automatic and the user does not need to specify a termination criterion for the construction process.

Dynamic relationships between technologies and organizations are investigated through research on digital visualization technologies and their use in the construction sector. Theoretical work highlights mutual adaptation between technologies and organizations but does not explain instances of sustained, sudden, or increasing maladaptation. By focusing on the technological field, I draw attention to hierarchical structuring around inter-dependent levels of technology; technological priorities of diverse groups; power asymmetries and disjunctures between contexts of development and use. For complex technologies, such as digital technologies, I argue these field-level features explain why organizations peripheral to the field may experience difficulty using emerging technology.
