The effect of guia exame's ratings on the brazilian fund industry: an analysis of net-worth flows

This paper infers the impact the publication Guia Exame (the guide) has on the Brazilian fund industry, more specifically on the ability the concerned funds develop on attracting new investment. The impact is measured using the event-study analysis based on the variation of net worth subsequently to the event of being rated, according to the methodology applied by the guide to rank the funds. We used five years of fund ratings according to Guia Exame (2000-2004) and analyzed the changes of these funds net worth. We also compared the event amongst different categories of funds. The results found confirm the expected effects according to star rankings and asset manager size in all years.

O Fluminense Foo-tball Club: a construção de uma identidade clubística no futebol carioca (1902-1933)

Este trabalho tem por objetivo levantar explicações sobre a formação da identidade do Fluminense F. C. como clube que tem como marca principal a elitização calcada na distinção e no refinamento. Pretendemos analisar a história do clube durante os anos iniciais do desenvolvimento do futebol na cidade do Rio de Janeiro e sua relação com as outras agremiações futebolísticas, levantando aspectos peculiares de sua história que foram fundamentais na construção dessa imagem. Tendo como pressupostos teóricos os trabalhos de Bourdieu sobre a distinção e de Hobsbawm e Ranger sobre a invenção das tradições, procuramos demonstrar como escritores como Mario Filho e Paulo Coelho Netto foram responsáveis pela consolidação de uma série de valores simbólicos e tradições que associaram o Fluminense a um espaço de distinção e refinamento que se perpetuou historicamente.

O poder pelo mar: a indústria de construção naval militar no Brasil a partir da política desenvolvimentista de Juscelino Kubitschek (1956-1961)

Este Trabalho tem o objetivo de analisar os reflexos da política desenvolvimentista de Juscelino Kubitschek, que por meio de dispositivos legais implantou a indústria de construção naval no Brasil e os desdobramentos dessa política na construção naval militar, tendo o Arsenal de Marinha do Rio de Janeiro (AMRJ) como representante deste processo. O Brasil é levado a uma mobilização de desenvolvimento baseado na industrialização e nesse sentido vale enfatizar três aspectos importantes.As medidas do governo JK na indústria naval e como refletiram no Arsenal de Marinha do Rio de Janeiro. Outro aspecto é o momento histórico dos anos 1950 vivenciando o palco da guerra fria entre as potências Estadas Unidos (EUA) e União Soviética (URSS) e que traz desdobramentos como a partir acordos militares entre os EUA e seus aliados, estando o acordo Brasil e EUA inserido nesse contexto. A implantação da indústria de construção naval militar no país na segunda metade da década de cinquenta no Brasil trouxe repercussões significativas na área militar naval, sobretudo nos anos 1970, quando a Marinha brasileira recuperou sua capacidade de projetar e construir navios de guerra modernos.

Adam Smith visto por Roberto Campos: a (re)criação do mito e as necessidades do capitalismo

This work aims at analyzing how Adam Smith, one of the founders of the liberal regime was seen by Roberto Campos, one of the patriarchs of Brazilian liberalism. In this sense, it will be shown how and why the legacy of Scotland was used to legitimize the new pattern of accumulation necessary to capitalism from the second half of the twentieth century on. So, it is the intention to make explicit that the changes in Campos discursive form are consistent with the requirements of capitalism in crisis and were fundamental in the creation of another common sense. To achieve these goals it will be assessed in what way the liberal rhetoric of the Brazilian, harmonized with foreign authors with the same vision, has become an important weapon to transform Smith into a myth in contrast to the political and economic criteria advocated by the same, but valuable to what Roberto Campos intended

Entre cristo e o diabo:o ideário do Colégio Americano Batista do Recife (1902-1942)

Due to lack of work on the history of Baptist schools in the Northeast region of Brazil, it is important to understand through a historical reconstruction of the Baptist Protestant education. We embarked on this venture as a chance to understand the presence of Protestant schools, and his ideas on Brazilian soil. Our goal is to promote a reflection which has the axial dimension of the Baptists Protestant education, in time, we will place the debate between 1902-1942. The temporal boundaries of 1902-1942 was because 1902 was when he started the American Baptist College of Recife in 1942 and that ends the cycle of managing directors of Americans. Understand the functionality of time a school is justified when we realize that the history of education is the story of a work of self and formation within a framework that has the school as the main support that can enable a reading of reality. We also intend to examine the school culture brought to Brazil by American missionaries and their applicability in the Brazilian cultural-historical context. And just to demonstrate the hypothesis that the educational contribution of Baptists added to the participation of other Protestants promoted advances in Brazilian society. Possibly taking for granted that the Baptists were in possession of the democratic ideals of religious freedom, taken by many representatives and religious version of the republican regime. In addition to promoting a model in Brazil to make different methodological schools, based on the ideals of new school and ethics of the Bible. Our proposed research aims at understanding how North American missionaries settled in Brazil and what were the purposes of adding to the efforts of evangelization to formal education, binomial that justified the establishment of schools. O Barão do Rio Branco no Itamaraty (1902-1912)

Os cem anos do fim da gestão do Barão do Rio Branco no Ministério das Relações Exteriores do Brasil coincidem com um momento politicamente propício para se revisitar o legado do patrono da diplomacia brasileira, em especial o referente aos Estados Unidos e ao Prata, os dois principais eixos das relações externas do País. Examinam-se o teor das relações com a potência hegemônica do hemisfério e o caráter oscilante daquelas com a Argentina. A partir de fontes primárias e bibliográficas, o autor procura demonstrar que Rio Branco, além do fechamento dos limites do território nacional, firmou tendências e procedimentos que se incorporaram à tradição da diplomacia brasileira, analisando, para isso, a função do alinhamento Rio de Janeiro-Washington no conjunto da política externa do chanceler e o padrão das relações com o governo argentino, fatores que influenciaram seus movimentos no entorno geográfico. A política de prestígio desenvolvida por Rio Branco decorreu da aspiração em diferenciar seu país do conjunto de nações do segmento sul do hemisfério, identificadas com convulsões políticas e insolvência financeira.

A nação pela pedra: coleções de paleontologia no Brasil, 1836-1844

A formação e o estudo de coleções de história natural e de paleontologia participaram da instauração da ordem política do Império do Brasil, delineando também uma ordem científica. A simbiose entre ciência e nação encontrou em Peter W. Lund, iniciador dos estudos de paleontologia em nosso país, um agente ativo e constante. As coleções e escritos desse naturalista deram amparo à visualização do passado e à escrita da história em museus, instituições científicas e culturais brasileiras e europeias. As disputas pelo ordenamento político sob as Regências e a Maioridade foram acompanhadas de perto pelo estudo e a explicação das formas de vida e do globo no passado.

First record of Amblyomma rotundatum Koch, 1844 (Acari: Ixodidae) parasitizing Paleosuchus palpebrosus Cuvier, 1807 (Reptilia: Crocodylidae), in the western border of Pantanal, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil.

This is the first record of Amblyomma rotundatum parasitizing Paleosuchus palpebrosus. This record was made during a herpetofaunal study carried out in high-elevation habitats that are under protection in the mountain range "Serra do Amolar", located in the western border of Brazilian Pantanal, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul.

Amblyomma triste (Koch, 1844) (Acari : Ixodidae): Morphological description of the ovary and of vitellogenesis

The present study presents the morphology, histology, and the dynamics of vitellogenesis in females of the tick Amblyomma triste. The ovary in this species is of the panoistic type, therefore it lacks nurse cells. It is composed of a layer of epithelial cells that outwardly form the wall of the ovary, but also originate the pedicel, the structure that attaches the oocytes to its external margin, as well the oocytes themselves. In Amblyomma triste, the oocytes develop in four synchronic stages, which differs from the process in other tick species. The classification of the stages of the oocytes was carried out based on the presence of four morphologic characteristics: cytoplasm appearance; site of the germ vesicle; presence, quantity, and constitution of the yolk granules and presence of chorium. Amblyomma triste (Koch, 1844) (Acari : Ixodidae) Ovaries: An ultrastructural analysis

This study presents an ultrastructural analysis of the ovary of the tick, Amblyomma triste. The ovary of this species is of the panoistic type that is, without nursing and follicular cells. It is composed of a layer of epithelial cells forming a wall and of germinative cells that generate the oocytes which remain attached to the external margin of this wall by a multicellular pedicel. The different developmental stages in the oocytes had been described by Oliveira et al. [Oliveira, P.R., Bechara, G.H., Camargo-Mathias, M.I., 2006. Amblyomma triste (Koch, 1844) (Acari: Ixodidae): Morphological description of the ovary and of vitellogenesis. Experimental Parasitology 113, 179-185]. The results of the investigation suggest that besides exogenous production of vitellogenic elements, endogenous production can take place simultaneously, contributing to the development and growth of the oocytes.
