L'objectif de cette recherche est de réfléchir à la notion de vrai dans l'économie discursive du témoignage. C'est-à-dire que ce mémoire se concentre sur le rapport entre le discours critique et académique d'une part, et le discours littéraire de l'autre. Une première partie s'attache à délimiter les contours de du problème, à partir notamment des notions de de vrai et de vraisemblable. Une étude comparative permet d'introduire trois auteurs qui serviront d'exemple tout au long de la recherche: Primo Levi, Jorge Semprun, et Charlotte Delbo. On fait un bref survol de l'évolution des deux économies discursives depuis les tout premiers témoignages (années 40-50) jusqu'au tournant narratif symbolisé par le procès Eichmann. Cela correspond aussi à la parution d'un témoignage à part: Le sang du ciel, de Piotr Rawicz. La seconde partie est un état de la question sur le roman de Rawicz. Comment le fait qu'il s'agisse d'une fiction, notamment, a été discuté par la critique et dans les contributions universitaires qui lui sont consacrées. Cette incursion dans l'herméneutique nous permet d'identifier trois vagues critiques distinctes, selon les époques et les pays. Enfin, la dernière partie s'attache à montrer que Le sang du ciel est un témoignage pensé comme un projet esthétique, dont la modernité ne cède pas à la facilité du refus de dire de quoi on parle, mais qui au contraire pose des questions de son temps et ose aborder les sujets que l'on doit taire selon la doxa.

Machine tool chatter is an unfavorable phenomenon during metal cutting, which results in heavy vibration of cutting tool. With increase in depth of cut, the cutting regime changes from chatter-free cutting to one with chatter. In this paper, we propose the use of permutation entropy (PE), a conceptually simple and computationally fast measurement to detect the onset of chatter from the time series using sound signal recorded with a unidirectional microphone. PE can efficiently distinguish the regular and complex nature of any signal and extract information about the dynamics of the process by indicating sudden change in its value. Under situations where the data sets are huge and there is no time for preprocessing and fine-tuning, PE can effectively detect dynamical changes of the system. This makes PE an ideal choice for online detection of chatter, which is not possible with other conventional nonlinear methods. In the present study, the variation of PE under two cutting conditions is analyzed. Abrupt variation in the value of PE with increase in depth of cut indicates the onset of chatter vibrations. The results are verified using frequency spectra of the signals and the nonlinear measure, normalized coarse-grained information rate (NCIR).

In this thesis, the applications of the recurrence quantification analysis in metal cutting operation in a lathe, with specific objective to detect tool wear and chatter, are presented.This study is based on the discovery that process dynamics in a lathe is low dimensional chaotic. It implies that the machine dynamics is controllable using principles of chaos theory. This understanding is to revolutionize the feature extraction methodologies used in condition monitoring systems as conventional linear methods or models are incapable of capturing the critical and strange behaviors associated with the metal cutting process.As sensor based approaches provide an automated and cost effective way to monitor and control, an efficient feature extraction methodology based on nonlinear time series analysis is much more demanding. The task here is more complex when the information has to be deduced solely from sensor signals since traditional methods do not address the issue of how to treat noise present in real-world processes and its non-stationarity. In an effort to get over these two issues to the maximum possible, this thesis adopts the recurrence quantification analysis methodology in the study since this feature extraction technique is found to be robust against noise and stationarity in the signals.The work consists of two different sets of experiments in a lathe; set-I and set-2. The experiment, set-I, study the influence of tool wear on the RQA variables whereas the set-2 is carried out to identify the sensitive RQA variables to machine tool chatter followed by its validation in actual cutting. To obtain the bounds of the spectrum of the significant RQA variable values, in set-i, a fresh tool and a worn tool are used for cutting. The first part of the set-2 experiments uses a stepped shaft in order to create chatter at a known location. And the second part uses a conical section having a uniform taper along the axis for creating chatter to onset at some distance from the smaller end by gradually increasing the depth of cut while keeping the spindle speed and feed rate constant.The study concludes by revealing the dependence of certain RQA variables; percent determinism, percent recurrence and entropy, to tool wear and chatter unambiguously. The performances of the results establish this methodology to be viable for detection of tool wear and chatter in metal cutting operation in a lathe. The key reason is that the dynamics of the system under study have been nonlinear and the recurrence quantification analysis can characterize them adequately.This work establishes that principles and practice of machining can be considerably benefited and advanced from using nonlinear dynamics and chaos theory.

In a previous paper we have determined a generic formula for the polynomial solution families of the well-known differential equation of hypergeometric type σ(x)y"n(x)+τ(x)y'n(x)-λnyn(x)=0. In this paper, we give another such formula which enables us to present a generic formula for the values of monic classical orthogonal polynomials at their boundary points of definition.

We present a new method to perform reliable matching between different images. This method exploits a projective invariant property between concentric circles and the corresponding projected ellipses to find complete region correspondences centered on interest points. The method matches interest points allowing for a full perspective transformation and exploiting all the available luminance information in the regions. Experiments have been conducted on many different data sets to compare our approach to SIFT local descriptors. The results show the new method offers increased robustness to partial visibility, object rotation in depth, and viewpoint angle change.

The statistical analysis of literary style is the part of stylometry that compares measurable characteristics in a text that are rarely controlled by the author, with those in other texts. When the goal is to settle authorship questions, these characteristics should relate to the author’s style and not to the genre, epoch or editor, and they should be such that their variation between authors is larger than the variation within comparable texts from the same author. For an overview of the literature on stylometry and some of the techniques involved, see for example Mosteller and Wallace (1964, 82), Herdan (1964), Morton (1978), Holmes (1985), Oakes (1998) or Lebart, Salem and Berry (1998). Tirant lo Blanc, a chivalry book, is the main work in catalan literature and it was hailed to be “the best book of its kind in the world” by Cervantes in Don Quixote. Considered by writters like Vargas Llosa or Damaso Alonso to be the first modern novel in Europe, it has been translated several times into Spanish, Italian and French, with modern English translations by Rosenthal (1996) and La Fontaine (1993). The main body of this book was written between 1460 and 1465, but it was not printed until 1490. There is an intense and long lasting debate around its authorship sprouting from its first edition, where its introduction states that the whole book is the work of Martorell (1413?-1468), while at the end it is stated that the last one fourth of the book is by Galba (?-1490), after the death of Martorell. Some of the authors that support the theory of single authorship are Riquer (1990), Chiner (1993) and Badia (1993), while some of those supporting the double authorship are Riquer (1947), Coromines (1956) and Ferrando (1995). For an overview of this debate, see Riquer (1990). Neither of the two candidate authors left any text comparable to the one under study, and therefore discriminant analysis can not be used to help classify chapters by author. By using sample texts encompassing about ten percent of the book, and looking at word length and at the use of 44 conjunctions, prepositions and articles, Ginebra and Cabos (1998) detect heterogeneities that might indicate the existence of two authors. By analyzing the diversity of the vocabulary, Riba and Ginebra (2000) estimates that stylistic boundary to be near chapter 383. Following the lead of the extensive literature, this paper looks into word length, the use of the most frequent words and into the use of vowels in each chapter of the book. Given that the features selected are categorical, that leads to three contingency tables of ordered rows and therefore to three sequences of multinomial observations. Section 2 explores these sequences graphically, observing a clear shift in their distribution. Section 3 describes the problem of the estimation of a suden change-point in those sequences, in the following sections we propose various ways to estimate change-points in multinomial sequences; the method in section 4 involves fitting models for polytomous data, the one in Section 5 fits gamma models onto the sequence of Chi-square distances between each row profiles and the average profile, the one in Section 6 fits models onto the sequence of values taken by the first component of the correspondence analysis as well as onto sequences of other summary measures like the average word length. In Section 7 we fit models onto the marginal binomial sequences to identify the features that distinguish the chapters before and after that boundary. La investigación acerca de la problemática ambiental que está sufriendo el páramo de Sumapaz, se ha plasmado en un multimedia que intenta recopilar los diferentes puntos de vista de quienes están directamente involucrados con este territorio. El páramo de Sumapaz cuenta con la presencia de los pobladores, quienes en su mayoría son campesinos que viven de la agricultura. Además allí se encuentra la Brigada XIII de Sumapaz, que actualmente combate a las cuadrillas 51 y 53 de las FARC. Históricamente, el páramo de Sumapaz ha sido un territorio con bastantes problemas de orden público. Además de los problemas ambientales actuales que lo aquejan, las condiciones sociales a través de la historia y las disputas por la tierra reflejan un lugar en el que el conflicto tiene de por medio a la población civil, convirtiendo el páramo en una zona hostil. Según los ambientalistas, el páramo de Sumapaz se encuentra en peligro, pues el conflicto armado y la actividad agraria lo están afectando en gran medida, dado que como se refleja en la investigación, esta, es una zona muy frágil y cualquier tipo de actividad desde la siembra de cultivos hasta la presencia humana en masas y su constante pisoteo por el área podrían afectar su funcionamiento. Pero cada presencia tiene una justificación, los pobladores basan su economía en el agro y el Ejército está en función de sus labores; justificaciones que no son válidas a la hora de analizar las condiciones de deterioro en que se encuentra el Páramo de Sumapaz.
