Objectives: This in vitro study assessed the effect of milk containing different fluoride concentrations on tooth erosion. Methods: Bovine enamel and root dentine specimens were treated with: (1) bovine whole milk with 0 ppmF; (2) 2.5 ppm F; (3) 5 ppmF;(4) 10 ppmF (all after erosion); (5) whole milk with 0 ppm F (before erosion); (6) NaF (0.05% F, positive control, after erosion) or (7) 0.9% NaCl (negative control, after erosion). The specimens were submitted to pH cycles (4 x 90 s in soft drink) and treatments for 5 days. The specimens were immersed in the treatment solutions for 1 min(only at the first cycle each day) with further exposition to 1: 1 milk: saliva slurry for 10 min. The tooth loss was measured using a contact profilometer and statistically analysed (p < 0.05).Results: Rinsing with milk before erosive challenge significantly reduced tooth loss compared to negative control (67% and 24% reduction in dentine and enamel loss, respectively) and to milk after erosive challenge, only for dentine. The addition of fluoride to milk also reduced tooth loss compared to negative control, but with no significant differences among fluoride concentrations for enamel and dentine (mu m), respectively: 0 ppm (3.63 +/- 0.04 and 2.51 +/- 0.53), 2.5 ppm F (2.86 +/- 0.42 and 1.96 +/- 0.47), 5 ppm F (2.81 +/- 0.27 and 1.77 +/- 0.44), 10 ppm F (2.03 +/- 0.49 and 1.68 +/- 0.59). There was a negative and significant correlation between [F] and the tooth loss. Conclusions: Daily rinse with milk containing F is able to reduce both enamel and dentine erosion in vitro.Clinical significance: Since the prevalence of dental erosion is steadily increasing, rinse with milk or its derivate might be an important strategy to reduce the progression of tooth erosion. Due to complications caused by metallic implants in the replacement of bone tissue, the biological application of ceramics raised and became a viable alternative. The titania has the ability to promote bone tissue regeneration based on its structure, mechanical and biologically properties compatibility. The present work aims at obtaining and characterization of Titania (TiO2) porous ceramics produced by the polymeric sponge method (replica method). Polyurethane sponge with 10 ppi and 15 ppi (pores per linear inch) were used. The process differentiation is the air blower used to remove excess slurry. The ceramics sponges were dried in an oven, then pre-sintered at 1000 o C and sintered at 1450 o C. The effect of direct sintering at 1450 o C was also assessed. The percentage of solids used to prepare the slurry was 40 to 45% by weight. To increase the surface porosity of the sponge, 20% of starch was added. There was difficulty on controlling the thickness of the slurry layers on the sponge which resulted in the variation of samples mechanical resistance. Despite this, the results obtained are quite promising for the proposed use, indicating that it is possible to obtain titania sponges with an apparent porosity of around 60%, a bulk density ranging from 40 to 47% and a compressive strength resistance – that with better control of layers depositions – can vary from 1 to 4 MPa

The landfill biogas can be an alternative energetic resource as a fuel to electrical energy generators, although, there are not too many techniques to prospect the gas. Usually, landfills receive home waste, which in most are constituted by organic matter whose degradation by anaerobic activity produces the biogas. Geophysics is an important tool in environmental studies and the electrorresistivity, an important method employed in contaminated areas by slurry or necroslurry, including a monitoring for each contaminator flow. The electrorresistivity has not too much application in finding biogas. For this work, two biogas drains in Rio Claro-SP landfill were selected: one whose waste disposition correspond to the initial activities in the landfill and another drain whose disposition started more recently. The result consists in a higher biogas production if compared to the biogas from the older drain. The present paper consists in a monitoring along one year, with dates collection in each fifteen days. These dates were tabled in Excel 2010 program and graphics of resistivity x depth were generated. Hereafter, most variable resistivity values depth were chosen, to further graphics pluviosity x resistivity generation in Grapher 8 program and the biogas output (m³/h) in monitoring period. The use of pluviosity parameter can be justified by its influence above resistivity. The results show that there is a horizon with possibly biogas accumulation. Lastly, the method was effective, although, for any application of geophysical methods, the knowledge about its limitations is necessary; in this case the influence of pluviosity and also that the measurements were made in one single point, it will not show any side variation

In 2010 Brazil produced about 60.8 million of municipal solid waste, an amount 6.8% higher than in 2009 and six times the rate of urban population growth recorded in the same period. According to a study by the Brazilian Association of Companies of Special Wasteand Public Cleansing (Abrelpe), the average waste generated per person in the same period the country was 378 Kilograms, an amount 5.3% higher to 2009 (359 Kg). The total reached 60.8 milion tons of waste, 6.5 million tons were collected and not end up inrivers, streams and vacant lots. Of this total production, 42.4% or 22.9 million Tons, did not receive proper destination and destiny had dumps and landfills. The data show that the country is in upward trend in waste generation, but did not advance the appropriate destination at the same pace. The waste thus throw open cause public helth problems, such as proliferation of disease vectors (flies, mosquitoes, cockroaches, rats, and others). Generation of odors and especially the pollution of soil, surface water and groundwater through slurry ( liquid black, smelly and high pollution potential produced by the decomposition of organic matter contained in waste), affecting the water. This Study shows the popper closure of the areas, wich long has been degrading our natural resources, not to cause damage to nature and therefore society
